I think it's my confusion... I just did some googling and it was the FX64 (not 62 or 65) Ice Box that I had and used. It's was not a bass specific pedal, but was very good.

I'd suggest what you are doing is the best way of going about it. You won't do the amp any harm, though the RBI may increase the input gain so just watch the amp isn't clipping too easy. You could connect the RBI to the effects loop return (assuming the amp has one) and this would bypass the amps preamp section (effectively using the amp as a power amp only and all your tone shaping being sone by the RBI) should you decide you prefer the RBI's tone shaping and wish to use that as your main sound. How do you have it wired up with an A/B switch? Does the RBI have true bypass, so you can use the footswitch out on the back to turn the unit on and off as needed and the signal will still pass through when in the 'off' position?
Hey shep! When bassist in nottingham are turning up to gigs with 3 out of the 4 strings on the bass I doubt that there are many out there who have equipment more complex than an ashdown electric blue. although the studio invite sounds appealing!!!
Good point - though at last nights gig everyone had fully stringed instruments!! Anytime mate, just say... Doors always open - though you have to bring your own biscuits if you're not coming with a pre!
Nope but if you get a borrow a sansamp RBI or RPM I'll come and have a listen
I'll let you know. I'd quite like to try the Sansamp's. Truth be told I've never been blown away by the pedal versions, but I'm told the racks are something quite special.

Looks lovely dude! Great bit of kit. Reminds me of my old Overwater - Like a sexy Chocolate Digestive

Prometheus is a great pedal with some stunning sounds, though I would say it also has more horrid unusable sounds than any other pedal as well. 3Leaf groove regulator is still my fav' Envelope filter (I have the Mk.1 without the blend). It's phat, impossible for it to not sound immense, reasonably priced compared to other filters, well made and... well... phat! In the last 2 years I think I've had 12 envelope filters and this one was the 2nd I bought and has stayed. I'm also using Higgies old Tone Factor 442 Analogue Filter as my 2nd filter voice. It's less squishy sounding and more aggressive and works for my application (Synth bass). My 3rd pick would likely go to the Prometheus or the old DOD Envelope Filter (2 knob 'b' version). I like the MXR too, though it is VERY wet sounding and a little thin compared to something like the GR - Though it obviously depends on the sound you are going for.
The DOD FX 62 Stereo Bass Chorus was a pedal I regret seliing and now fetch silly money on ebay. I replaced it with a DOD FX 65 Stereo Chorus which seemed as good although it was designed for guitar.and these can be had for a reasonable price. Paul
Is the FX 65 the 'Ice Box Stereo Chorus', the sparkly blue one? - If so, I used this as my primary chorus pedal for 4 years and miles better than most bass chorus pedals I've used. Seriously a good unit and far superior to the FX62 Bass Chorus. My top pick would go to the EBS Unichorus. Its a super versatile chorus and a reasonable flanger. Very organic and lush sounding with great frequency response. 2nd hand they can be had for £80-90 (got mine 2nd hand for £85) and it's been on my board for 18 months. Anyone that knows me will know thats quite a claim!! Oddly I find the non-true bypass version sounds 'fuller' than the true bypass one. Truth be told I've found that about all the EBS pedals. I also own and use a Moog Cluster Flux but as that is as far from a traditional chorus unit I think it's best brushed over.

As the title says - I'm keen to try some other rack preamps aside my EBS-1v2 for some comparisson. I do like the EBS but I am keen to see what else it out there that may be slightly more intuitive and easier to adjust on the fly without massively altering your tone (EBS has Quasi-Parametric EQ with boost only, no cut). If anyone has any racks pre's - or, I guess pedal pre's with a decent EQ section, and fancies an hour or so at my studio fuelled with tea and biscuits please get in touch! Shep

Just got a Polytune - Doesn't detect my B
pantherairsoft replied to Herbie The Rad Dorklift's topic in Effects
Something isn't right. My Polytune tunes all my strings perfectly. I can tune my 6 string bass polyphonic! It is a regular Polytune and not a Polytune mini? (just in car you got a new one in the sly). Assuming it is a regular one, check the reference frequency and reset everything. Take it off bass and back onto bass again. Try and give it a 'kick'. Not running any buffers or effects before it? -
I bought mine from Mark purely for use on the Ashbory and they were the best thing that ever happened to my Ashbory! I was aware they came in different tensions so assume they were regular.

I got mine form Mark @ Bass Direct. They were not on his website at the time (might be now) but he had them. Give him a call.

Building a 100W Valve amp - undecided on name as of yet!

This is looking very impressive. Some real thought and design gone into this! -
Another easy deal with Higgie. A gent as always. Cheers dude Shep

You don't. Not truly anyway. I get close but using neck pup, slight boost of mids, finger the string over the 12-15th fret gently (so there is no attack over the pickups). This works great for me. Hopefully my description makes sense. Not sure any effects will do it. I'll move this to Theory & Technique unless someone things of a pedal solution. Shep

16 - count 'em - 16 bassoid effect things [and a stand]
pantherairsoft replied to Thornybank's topic in Effects For Sale
Ref above - Bass Balls (which is.. a ring modulator...)
It's an Envelope Filter (with 2 filters rather than one). Unless the original was something different?? Bet much not-ring mod like, I assume hence the question for clarification, is it a Bass Balls, or one of the Ring Mods they make (Ring Thing, Frequency Analizer etc). -
Ryan bout my Nano Bass Balls. Easy transaction. Cheers dude Shep

Bought a Gator rack case off John. Easy transaction. Arrived quick and kept me updated throughout. Cheers mate!
