Interesting stuff, I'm just glad you'll be able to get something to suit you! Very surprised to hear it's going to be made as a LG.
Me too. lol. I spent a bot of time with the body shapes as I've always been a Century man, but the size differences are quite substantial. The LG offers more 'potential' to save weight as theres a surprising amount less wood than the Century, also the ergonomics seemed to suit me nicely. Also, as I do a lot of crouching and knob twidding live, the 'flattened bottom' of the LG means I can actually wear the bass slightly lower without me needing to move the bass when I crouch... If the bottom hangs over my bely line, I have to move it to the left or right so it isn't moved aside my my right thigh in the kneeling position. It may seem like a minor point, but having spent, no dedicated my life to ergonomics over the last few months, it seemed worth while.

Well. Another Roscoe I hear you say. It wasn't 5 minutes since this beauty landed on my lap: http://basschat.co.u...age__hl__roscoe and I've been in love with it ever since. Unfortunately, due to some health complications, the bass I play has become a bit of an issue. I had my dream pair of Roscoes in cosmetic and tonal terms, but due to chronic Tendonitis in the right hand, triggering in 3 fingers, a damaged tendon in my left wrist, shoulder issues caused by constant hyper-extention & the revealing of a serious imbalance in my spine and hips... playing a wide necked, wide spaced, 35" scale bass has become exceptionally painful. I have put many of these things down to 'aches and pains' for sometime before waking in agony and my fingers triggering persuaded me to go and see a Doc. Word of wisdom - if you have such issues don't ignore them for 6 months like I did! Being very short, with short arms, and playing 35" scale basses for 8 years has forced my left shoulder into an unnatural position. To counter balance this, my hip has followed suit, causing my spine to be a tad awkward as well. The imbalance in my shoulders seems to of led to some weakening in my arms and slowly to my hands. The Doc has been very helpful and we making great progress without going down the surgical route. I've also been seeing a Chiropractor, which while slow progress at first, is now having fantastic results with my shoulder (Though my hip is still not keen). Facing facts though, the basses I have, while not the sole cause, are only aggravating the conditions. So... I've spent 3 months trying every bass I possibly can, compiling what helps and what aggravates the conditions. Some things help in areas, but set off other issues etc. 3 months later I have a spec for a bass that works. Letting go of my pair is painful to say the least, the fretless especially. My Fretted Koa Roscoe has already been sold to a chap in Italy via Bass Direct and the Fretless is currently listed on Bass Direct at a substantial loss to myself.(http://www.bassdirec...e_CS6Fless.html) While I am not keen on loosing money, the realisation that I am making this move out of necessity and that frankly, my health and ability to keep doing what I love is vital and more important to me than anything. If you want a bargain, snap that bass up! So, the new bass will be shorter scale, tighter spacing with a non-standard neck profile and very weight-efficeint. Spec... Roscoe LG Signature V (UPDATE: Serial number #6364) Tuned E-C with Hipshot Xtender on the E string 32" scale 18.3mm string spacing Very lightweight Ash body Buckeye Burl top & headstock facing Signature Maple/Purpleheart/Maple wedge neck Ultra SLIM neck profile Pau Ferro fretboard Diamondwood nut Bart/Roscoe pickups (slanted LG style) Diamondwood ramp (slanted LG style) Bart 18v preamp with Active/Passive switch Lightweight black hardware Luxury Roscoe fitted hardcase This bass will be fretted, whilst I have been playing fretless almost exclusively for the last few months, this has been as I love the fretless bass just a little more than the fretted. Truth be told, a fretted works with my music too AND is ultimately more versatile should I want to dabble with other things. I will miss having a fretless, but hopefully I'll not be without forever. The 32" scale is not something seen all too often but Roscoe have done a few with great success. It's also being done on the LG body shape, which has a much shorter top horn, which effectively makes the nut a little further away from the body on a strap. A 32" scale on this body feels a little more like a 33" scale when worn, but gives a slightly closer spacing of frets high up the neck and a closer feel when sitting as I now play bass in the 'classical' position when I sit (thanks mcgraham for that useful hint!). So there we have it. Difficult times, difficult measures but I am very very motivated at the moment with music going so well and am determined to get around the pain and discomfort and continue to play the instrument I love. I'll keep tis updated with progress reports and pics as and when. Roscoe's estimate is around 12 weeks.

The B7K is lovely, though I prefer the Bass Drive for more subtle warmth and grit, plus its a tone cheaper (when you can find one!). The B7K is super versatile, but I needed something to nail 1 sound perfectly - The Full Tone won! As this topic has been covered over and over recently, here is the sticky discussion thread: http://basschat.co.u...fects-argument/ Please continue discussion there rather than here...

Actually, I have found an Overdrive to be the hardest thing to find that sounded good. I wanted something very very slight, a tiny, warm crunch that sounded natural and gritty without being anything like a distortion or fuzz. I've had/have a number of distortion and fuzz pedals I love, but only a few months ago have I actually integrated an OD into my set up. 12 years I've played bass and never kept an OD pedal for more than a few months. I now have a Full Tone bass Drive and for what I want - It's staying for life!

The Oscillators idea is something I've flown for a while. I did a talk at a Drummers forum a while back, about using the bass in modern music to play styles that deliberate DON'T lock with the drums... This concept came from that and it's how I've thought I it since. As for the Polytune mini, due out in a month or so I think. Don't get too excited though - they messages me today, as I'll be one of the 1st bass players with one, to say that due to the size, certain features were left out (I assume as they can't fit everything on the circuit board). The thing that got left out was the guitar/bass switch for the poly mode. Which means bass can be tuned in chromatic mode only. I tended to use it that way anyway - but it's not really a 'polytuner' for the bass.
I bet that was the guy who won the Boss competition last year. The prize was the entire pedal range.
Quite likely! To be fair though - the comments kinda support this thread. It's clear that many folk view effects differently and 'most' (maybe) still thank that having a distortion pedal is enough, and in many cases it is. These folks are likely great musicians that make great music as well. They have always got by being creative and making music for their enjoyment and their audience base with just one pedal, or no pedals. It's just a shame that a few folks (not many mind) can't accept that effects and pedals can be an instrument of their own, that many forms of electronic music are based upon the sounds that these things create. It's unreasonable to think, that with so many pedals on the market, that is someone wants to make synthesised music, that they have to use a keyboard!

A few shots from our show at the weekend taken by a local photographer showing the board on stage!
Out of genuine interest, do you enjoy using a big board as an integral part of your performance rather than just a necessity to achieve your sound? Do you 'engage with it' (for want of a better description) and alter the f/x parameters in real time, or just turn things on and off that you've carefully pre-set? I only ask because if I were doing f/x on a big scale, I reckon I'd want to put them all in rack drawers and use a GCX or something to switch presets. But then, I suppose that might be taking away an integral element of your live performance..? If I'm appearing clueless, it's because I play standard rock / heavy metal and my trademark thing is to set the EQ flat, strap on my wireless kit and head off to rock out on the floor with the audience, so I'd find it a real pain to use anything pedal-wise for more than an intro, and don't really feel it'd enhance much if I went to the trouble!
I am pretty interactive when it comes to my set up. I have the pedals set up in 'defaut' position, which is effectively a position that offers sounds/tones which I love and would be happy treating it at a simple on/off effect like anyone else. A fair portion of my set up stays this way. I'd say 12 units stay like this. Set up for specific parts of tracks or improv. The other 8 however get tweaked an awful lot. Some by expression pedal, some by hand, some by both (at the same time). A number of the pedals I use a lot (Low Pass Filter, Ring Mod, Cluster Flux... In fact all the Moog stuff!) use very different tones for different tracks to I totally reset and tweak while playing between track. This takes some doing and I treat the board as part of the instrument. To me the bass is a set of oscillators and the board is the rest of the synth, so tweaking stuff does not seem a chore, it's part of playing. I try and spend at least one day a week (but generally two) with the set up playing with textures and layers and how things interact with every tiny turn of every knob, so yes, I'd say I interact with it a fair bit. A few Basschatters have seen me use the set up live (Phil.I.Stein, mcgraham, Dan Owens) so they'd be better to ask if the time and effort has paid off...!

I LOVE that pedal! Not paying that much for it though! -
Yeah. A number of the effects take very short delays and reverbs mixed with slight modulation. An expression pedal can be used to alter any one parameter per patch, so the amount of reverb, blend of modulation, key/pitch etc rtc. I use it for lots of ambient sound stuff, though to be honest any modulation used is to 'flavour' the reverb effects and very subtle, so I run chorus/flange/phaser after it as well

Agreed! It's not worth anymore than any other amp to me, but a NIN fan will lap that up. -

I've seen good condition ones got for a grand almost. He's asking for about £1200 which given that we know that many fan-boy will pay double because it has been used by someone they idolise, it doesn't seem THAT bad. -

Yeah. Saw him live with Nine Inch Nails and was lucky enough to get to meet NIN back stage. Had a brief Moog chat - we both agree they rule! I have Nine Inch Nails 'The Slip' deluxe edition with a 'in rehearsal' DVD and he has his full rig there. Nice! He has roadies to move and set his up though... Damn him! -
I use about half a minute of chorus for the intro to Widowmaker by WASP... does that count? I have nothing against people using f/x, but I must admit it makes me laugh when somebody rocks up with a pedalboard that's almost a two man lift and proceeds to use one pedal, once.
My pedalboard is STRICTY a 2-man lift. I appreciate it if a 3rd person is handy too. Though I don't use a clean bass at ANY point of a set. Would you laugh? Or seem it acceptable?

Depends on what type of music you play. I play drum & bass and dubstep - Hard to play synth bass without the sounds to make me sound like a synth! I'm still a bassist, I just take a different approach to the instrument to your average covers band bassist playing pop, rock, soul etc... Each effect has its place in a genre - Envelope for funk, Over drive in rock, etc etc - Listen to Jamiroquai and tell me effects don.t make that bass sound good!! If I was in a rock band now I'd likely not use any, as i like a fat clean bass within the genre, but I currently use over 20 pedals on my pedalboard as part of a live show - as the music I play works that way!

The best thing about this thread is that I have just seen myself quoted in lxxwj's signature! WIN If you were to look at the Pitchfactor as a Whammy only affect, firstly you'd be a bit mad, as it does some amazing stuff... but, it would have 100 saveable presets that can go from ANY interval from -2oct to +2oct and have a filter applied to each separately for synthy tone should you want to. That does kinda make it awesome. 2ndly, each patch can be dual voiced, so 2 separate signals swelling together... example... A heel you hear unison tone, as you swell to toe you hear 2 signals, one swelling to a 4th up and one to +1Oct and a 4th. Massive harmonic possibilities. I have a patch set that runs Unison and +1 Oct at the heel (So sounds like I have an Octave pedal running and octave up) and the reverse at the Toe, so in either position the effect is the same, but between the 2 points there is a strange off pitch swell as the 2 notes seem to 'snap back into place'. It's very musical in that sense.
