New Cab of Dooooooom! Barefaced Big Twin T
pantherairsoft replied to pantherairsoft's topic in Amps and Cabs
Well we're 2 gigs and 8 rehearsals with this cab and the level of articulation is stunning. The mid driver has identified a few noisy components in my signal chain that other cabs did not reproduce (strange noise artefacts from certain pedals etc). At first I was almost 'upset' that the cab did not hide such things like other cabs, but in reality it has meant that I have sought out causes and eliminated them (placement of power supplies in relation to certain pedals on the board etc) and ultimately allowed me yo clean up my signal chain somewhat. I run the cab with the mid-driver on the high setting and the tweeter on around 70-75%. It gives me a complete range from smooth clean sub to super fizzy synth highs. My drummer is shocked by the increased level of clarity over my EBS 212 Neo, but a little saddened by the fact my cab generates as much sub as most nightclub PA's and ultimately can drown him out when I'm fed up with drums When driving my amp hard for loud gigs the cab is a little less forgiving than others as the sound of the output stage distorting/clipping becomes more apparent. This is because of the clarity of that mid driver again, and I use some quite hefty EQ boosts at around 50hz meaning I drive my 350w amp hard anyway. I'm remedying this with Power/Pre combination shortly anyway but thought it was worth mentioning. All in all, this has to be the best sounding cab I've ever used FOR THE MUSIC I DO. It's low passed speakers, punchy mid driver and tweeter top act just like the PA setup I've been wanting to hear behind me and there is more than enough bass on tap. The Big Twin T is a serious winner! -
You could move the tuner & octave over & then squeeze a Moog in there! MF101 & an expression pedal on the floor maybe?
Yes, yes & yes! -
I need you fx guru's to give me some advice pretty please...

Yo! For Dubstep/D&B sounds. Octave - Fuzz - LPF - Trem/Chorus. That will send you on your way. As for signal chain, most important rule as always is experiment and see what works best. I recall Dan Owens on here saying he runs modulation before the LPF as he prefers to take the frequencies out of the modulation and swell it in. I run it after LPF as I prefer the sound to be fluid and modulating even when its just sub coming through. Play around and see what works. You can even try it in channel 2 of your LS2 and blend it with the A+B mix mode. Yum! As for compression. I used to use lots, but as I use lots of delay effect, I found it played hell with the delay. I then went through a phase of using none (after all fuzz etc is compressed itself and I use lots of that), but now I use a tiny bit on the amp to iron out an EXTREME peaks - I can count on one hand the amount of times I've seen the compressor light flick on though. I'll let you know when it's fully loaded! Still got some stuff to alter, some wood risers to out in under a few things etc. It isn't a 1 person carry. Strictly 2 people to carry. Circa 30-35kg

Too much GAS and too much demand for the music I got involved in!

ALL SOLD I have 2 Diago Tourman Pedalboard's going spare having now recieved my custom board. They are both in good condition, no nasty bumps. Few external light cuffs etc on the other coating and the felt lining is in good condition. One board is only 6 months old and the other about 18 months old. I'm asking £70 each collected from Nottingham for these (which is a saving of about £50 each). No shipping on the board's as they are huge & will be expensive and an utter pain in the bottom to ship. Open to trade for fuzz/OD or modulation effects. GEORGE L'S ALL SOLD.

Cheers guys. Ran into a few technical hiccups as the day went on. It's all sorted and working now though thankfully with a few tweaks. I have to adjust the way I use my MP-201 slightly as I tend to over hang the tip of my shoe at the toe, which I never took into account. I just need to get used to having my heel slightly off instead. Had a 10 minute jam and think I'll adjust easy. Got to tweak a few things, add the Clister Flux and we're all done. More pics tomorrow or Thursday.

Initial pedal layout... Space at top left is for incoming Moogerfooger Cluster Flux

Maybe it sounds bigger in the M9 as its after the M9 EQ section, allowing you to beef it up and tailor it more to bass. The FM4 just always sounds 'thin' to me. One mans hate is another mans love though...
That's what I was hoping! The Whammy IV tracked like a dream for me, so will be looking to try another DT a.s.a.p. Thankfully it saved me some cash yesterday as I needed to pick up the Aguilar pedal most urgently.
Yeah. I assumed I was either unlucky, or the 1st batch had some quality control issues. The one I tried int he shop was perfect. After have 2 bad ones from the stock room, I just asked for the one I'd tried on display! Lol. It's tracking is lovely and it tracks 4 and 6 string chords as well. I was told it wouldn't cut top end like the Whammy IV does, but unfortunately it does - I run mine after my fuzz and distortion pedals. (which add lots off top end harmonic content). If you run it before the gain section of your chain you'd never notice, but I assume you know that as a Whammy IV owner!
P.S. Am still in love with your Roscoes from the London get-together a few weeks ago!
Me too! -
Duncan bought my Clifton Downright. He really knows his Cliftons and given the pleasure on his face as he handed over the money I'm getting the feeling I should of asked for more! Absolutely top chap, great communication and very friendly. Cheers bud! Shep

I have a whammy DT and it blows the socks off my Whammy IV. Better tracking, more natural sounding upper octave. All round awesome. I'd say it was a duff pedal. My 1st 2 went back! 1 blown LED and one over tightened treadle. -
Lol. Chris!? Are you my mum!! Lol. I'm on the train to B'ham to deliver a bass to another bass chatter at the mo. Have a day off tomorrow so I'll be hitting the board setup hard providing my local haberdashery store have my industrial strength Velcro as promised. Quick pic from unboxing after delivery... I think you'd be better saving up and getting the MF-101 or saving for the BEF. I have had a play with one, an I know a few bassists that own them, but it doesn't cut it for me where solid bass envelopes am filters are concerned. The Line6 M9 does it better, plus loads more besides.

Pre amp / Power amp set up questions
pantherairsoft replied to pantherairsoft's topic in Amps and Cabs
Only if you have a real stereo signal you should use both outputs, but in that case you probably don't want bridge mode. If you really need the two channels use a simple mixer, but never use a 'Y' cable. Look here : http://www.rane.com/note109.html for the details.
Very interesting article. I'm saving that link. Very very interesting.
I use a QSC as well. I run it in stereo mode into two Aguilar 2x12 cabs and love it that I'm capable of adding more bass to my tone without clipping the amp.
Exactly why I'm making this move - boosting of 40-50hz and EQ'ing back in what my huge effects chain takes away causes clipping at the output stage. I'm purely after headroom and clarity -
Pah - they wouldn't even get it moving
