1. Any takers? Maybe this post is invisible - two other VT Bass pedals sold here in the last couple of days for the same price and more...
 2. To me, there's not a lot in it. I'd go for the Paradriver cos it has a mid control, and the Bass Driver doesn't. But then some like the scooped tubey tone of the Bass Driver. Also, I suppose you can always turn up the mid on your amp to compensate with the Bass Driver.
 3. Boss Heavy Metal HM-2 This discontinued 80s pedal sounded rank with guitar but has recently found favour among some bassists. Very good if you're after a big beefy distortion and an almost synthlike sound. Video demo.

Discontinued pedal, made in Taiwan.
Keeps lows well with tone controls.
£35 posted.

 4. Been some interest. Any takers?
 5. Cheers Fred - yep, US model - never noticed that before.
 6. Hi, I've had this Ampeg SVT 410 HLF (Classic) for a couple of years and used it at 4 gigs. It whacks out some welly - nice if you're looking for that SVT rumble. Not to be confused with the cheaper B-series version (B-410HLF).

LF Drivers: 4 x 10”
Voice Coil: 2”
Magnet Weight (each): 30 oz
HF Drivers: Horn/Driver
Voice Coil: 1”
Magnet Weight (each): 8 oz
RMS Power Handling: 500-Watts
Frequency Response (-3dB): 48Hz-18kHz
Usable Low Frequency (-10dB): 28Hz
Nominal Impedance: 4-Ohms
Sensitivity: 98dB
Maximum SPL: 125dB
Dimensions (W x H x D inches): 24 x 30 x 19
Shipping Weight: 110 Pounds
Handling Weight: 85 Pounds
It has a few scuffs but is in pretty good condition. No faults and everything sounds as it should. £350 collected. I will deliver at buyer's expense - but I have no idea what courier would ship a 110 lb box for a reasonable price. If you want it and know of a courier, I can arrange. Cheers, Steve
 7.
So anyway, what does all this contribute to the OP's review?
Is there an echo in here?
 8. Cheers Paul - best laugh I've had all day!
 9.
I also used to use an Ampeg 4x10 in rehearsal and my Compact is much thicker and bigger sounding IME than that was, which just goes to show how people's experiences differ.
+1 with my experience with the Big One. My Ampeg 410HLF has plenty of lows - but it just seems to smother everything with its sheer presence - to the detriment of clarity.
 10.
I don't see how any of this adds to this specific review, but maybe that's just me
Now, that's a good point!
 11.
So, you'd say that there's been no hyping of Barefaced cabs on Basschat and all discussion has been totally objective?
Not that I've read, Toastie. Tis all semantics.
 12.
That hit the nail on the head! Advice and opinions = Useful. Hype = Not useful. (IMO).
Talk about stating the totally bloody obvious! I haven't read one Barefaced review on here that I've perceived as hype. Just people giving their honest accounts of what they think. Maybe it's more down to the way you're interpreting them. But that's your perception - not the intention of the writer. Reading a review and taking it as just one opinion = Useful Reading a review and taking it as hype = Not useful
 13.
I don't think anyone's "bigging up" anything. What you are seeing are the views and opinions of people who post more frequently than others. In that case it's plain that you'll hear what they have to say more than someone who posts every blue moon. As I said before you can't complain that recommendations are one sided just because no one is posting opposing views.
Yep. It's simple. Take an online review with a pinch of salt and try the gear for yourself. Which is exactly what Alex lets you do.
 14.
I think the main problem is that peoples reviews aren't totally accurate, they possibly don't try other manufacturers gear beforehand.
True. But I think the main problem is sonic subjectivity. What sounds great to a rock geek like me - fat low bass with a gravel-path crunch - will sound crap to a floppy hatted funkster who's popping and slapping all over.
 15. What's wrong with that? Sounds spot on to me!
 16. I try not to gush when reviewing. All I can say is what my ears tell me and make me feel. My Big One p*sses all over my Ampeg 410HLF and various other cabs I've tried over the years. I'm a grumpy sh*t, so I'd be the first to announce any negatives. But I can't find any. Which, in a way, gets on my nerves.
 17.
A lot of people like BF Some Dont Some people appear to have an agenda almost outside is the product good or not.
Exactly.
 18. Bass players are odd. I'm going out to play.
 19. Yeah, point taken. All I'm really saying is that people should be able to say and post what they think about a bit of gear, without folks accusing them of hyperbole and telling 'em to tone it down.
 20. Yeah, just a figure of speech - impossible to see how that comment might offend or be misunderstood in any way. I think people should speak their minds about stuff, glowing or otherwise. Harmony Central has plenty of glowing reviews on there - you'd rather people deleted or didn't write their honest thoughts? You read the reviews, got hyped up, tried a couple of cabs, didn't like them, then got your money back. No harm done.
 21.
The cab IS "colouring your sound". Whatever that means.
How can you say it's colouring my sound, if you don't know what it means? I'll drop the jargon - the Big One doesn't seem to make my sound bassy, middly or trebly. It lets the natural sound of my bass come through with complete clarity. Then I EQ that sound as I see fit. And I'm sorry if my love of this cab annoys some people. I'm not endorsing Barefaced cabs - just stating what I feel about them.
 22.
See, this is the sort of thing that can be misleading, because it makes out that the cab will do anything you want. If you like the sound of speaker distortion and a big mid range hump then it probably wont, which I think Alex himself has said. As Rob said to me the other night in a moment of zen like wisdom, any cab basically equates to "speakers in a box", they're not magic and no matter how well designed something is, it's going to have an inherant character that may or may not float your coracle.
Wil, I don't mean to mislead, I'm just saying what works for me. I'd rather colour my own sound than let the cab do it for me.
 23. You get out of a Barefaced Cab what you put into it. It's a cab that mirrors your bass and amp settings. Without coloring your sound like many other cabs. So EQ your amp until you get the sound you love. It doesn't take much for me and my Big One: I just boost the bass and drop the mids a bit. It will take whatever EQ you throw at it. But you're in control, not the cab.
 24.
I wouldn't be seen dead with a cab called Aguilar, Epifani and Bergantino. They sound like they were designed for guys in dresses.
