1.
I'd prefer it if my Bergantinos handles were recessed, as they are on the new ones, so my rack would sit on top better. Does that count?
Yep, that's exactly what I'm talking about.
2. That's true. Although some things seem to escape criticism on here - Aguilar, Epifani and Bergantino spring to mind. Are they as perfect as the reviews suggest or has anyone tried and not liked?
3. Blimey, never thought I'd feel so bad for saying I liked a bass cab.
4.
Hey Mildman if you do want to compare the Big One next to an NV412 we could have a Swindon Bass bash!
I'm up for that Raggy! Not knocking the Bergs though - all personal preference innit.
5.
What other cabs have you compared your Big One, mildmanofrock?
I've played the Ampeg 410hlf against the Big One, - the Big One is far superior to my ears - no mud. I've also played through a Bergantino nv412 and Aguilar db410 but not directly compared at the same time. While good, none of them have given me the clarity, punch and ability to hear every nuance of my bass.
6.
+1 at that price it is playing with the big boys
You're right. And in my experience, the Big One beats them.
7. Shockwave, your other problems aside, I'm with other posters here who say give your Vintage speakers time to bed in. Set aside a few hours to play at a fair volume with your low frequencies turned up - and I reckon those speakers will whack out the thick bass you're looking for.
8.
Only those that are blind and/or deaf would purchase based on spec.
Of course. I don't think Alex or anyone is suggesting otherwise. But if specs are already out there, I don't think there's anything wrong with adding another spec to the list. 51mOn is right. There's nothing wrong with arming people with quality facts to help them make informed buying decisions. Read the specifications, but don't forget to use your ears.
9.
But do you, as the end user, care? For example, for any cab, if the specs look great but the cabs sound sh*te, would you still buy them?!
But all or most cab companies provide specifications anyway. Of course, it's vital to hear a cab working - no one here is saying you shouldn't. But accurate technical facts don't do any harm. And people obviously care about the technical aspects or they wouldn't put them in their marketing. So why not add Volume Displacement figures to the list of specs? Would you buy a 100 grand car on just the strength of a test drive? Maybe. But I bet you'd be interested in seeing the specifications too.
10. Hi absolut - it only sounds the same as my EBS from the youtube link. Hearing it in the flesh, may be different - so could be worth having a go? Cheers S
11. Sounds exactly the same as my EBS Multidrive. What's with the undercarriage controls that you can only change with a screwdriver? How dopey is that?
12. I've never played through a Hartke cab - but the Big One blew my Ampeg 410HLF cab out the water. Here's my review.
13. Would bi-amping make full PA gigs more difficult - especially with limited soundchecking time? Plus sweet-talking the soundman into micing up or taking DIs out of two heads and balancing the two sounds out front?
14. Overdrive now and again, I say. That bloke out of Muse has a lot to answer for.
15. I didn't really get on with the Tonehammer. Didn't do anything to my sound and the tubey overdrive options were horrible to my ears. I've settled with a Sansamp Paradriver now.
16.
The Diago power supply made all my pedals come to life.
Hi, what do you mean by this? Did the sounds from them improve? I had/have a Diago and it popped and crackled. I think it may be faulty, mind.
17. I recommend this.
18. Thanks - much appreciated!
19. I really like the EBS IQ - it does funny burping and quacking noises. I've never used another envelope filter though, so have nothing to compare it with.
20. I can only recommend the Barefaced Big One. I've reviewed it here.
21.
We've invested in some bespoke composite plywood to lower the weight and increase strength/rigidity of the enclosures, so everything has lost quite a bit of weight. There is a cost implication but I think it's more than worth it.
Is the sound quality the same?
22. Hi there, The treble knob on my Ampeg SVT 6 Pro has fallen off. Does anyone know where I can buy one? Cheers, Steve
23.
Great set up, you can't beat a bit of power under the bonnet. Here's mine.
That's one helluva power amp you've got there. How many cabs do you run off that?
24. What's this? A pedal for smug funksters in silly hats?
25. Mine just arrived today. It's stunning. Light, compact... and the sound: clear, biting (roll off your mids to taste), and thick. My Ampeg 410HLF cab will soon retire. It's a beautiful solid cab with lots of bottom. It still does the job and is great for players looking for lots of presence. But the Big One does the same, with more clarity. I'm away for a week on Sunday, but will do a full review when I get back. Lovely. *Edit* Before I go, I just have to add: this cab is amazing. If you get one, don't be put off when you first plug in. The big speaker is new and tight, so needs a couple of hours playing at high volume to loosen up and unleash its bass. The mids might seem a little in your face at first too. Just adjust your EQ a little. Keep playing. Then it hits you... the tightest, juciest, warmest and clearest bass sound I've ever had. I can't recommend it more highly. I'm absolutely delighted. And no, I'm not on commission! ******************* I used the Big One at the Moonfest festival on Sunday. It was the best sound I've ever had live - and it can more than deliver the goods on a big stage. It's got loads of bottom, punchy mids, and crystal highs when you need them. I cut through like never before. In fact, if anything, I think I turned myself up a little too loud. Since getting the Big One, I've had nothing but complements. It puts my Ampeg 410HLF cab in the shade. I can't recommend it more highly - with a 1000W amp or thereabouts, it's all you'll ever need in any setting, from rehearsals right up to big events.
