I call my Squier VMJ "Fluffbag" & My Rickenbacker "Ploppy the donkey"...
-
-
I bought a 2010 Jetglo 4003 about 3 months ago & i have to say that i adore it.Before the Ric,i was playing a Squier VM which as you know has a very slim neck & suited me just fine as i have small hands (big feet). The Ric's neck is approx 5mm wider at the nut,but i've had no problem adjusting to it at all.Mine happens to be light as a feather. The tone is something else too, growly & punchy which is perfect for what we play (Space Rock & Punk). However, they're not for everyone, but then what bass is?!! Rickenbackers seem to raise the blood pressure in people wether you love them or hate them. My best advice would be to try one out first.Spend a good hour with it.Play it sat down, standing up,upside down, inside out,...you get my drift.Never trust someone elses opinion as instruments are very personal & individual creatures...make your own mind up....If you like it,buy it...if you hate it,don't.....Simples!!

Hi all, I've recently acquired a JCM 800 guitar amp for next to nothing in terms of dosh.I just took it to the rehearsal studios & tested it through a Marshall 4X12 guitar cab...WOW,what a sound.Pure filth (in the best possible way).Exactly the sound i've been looking for...ala Lemmy!!! My 1st question is,is it perfectly ok to play my bass through it without causing any damage as long as i use a bass speaker cab?? My 2nd question is,can anybody recommend a decent & yet reasonably priced 4X10 / 4X12 cab i could use with the amp? Lastly, does anybody here play their bass through a guitar amp?? Thanks for reading!!

Something for you Rickenbacker (and possibly Rickenfaker) players
Hey guys, I've had a quick scan through basschat and I couldn't see a link to this. Someone from Talkbass has started making plastic bezels for Rickenbacker treble pickups designed to fill the gap that's present on basses with the pickup cover removed. See here. Just thought I'd tell you guys about it, and I'm currently in the process of ordering one for my 4003 so I'll tell you how it is once it arrives Cheers, Bob
I've ordered one too.It's on it's way from the States...Gonna be 3 weeks!! -
Hi all, thanks for the interest.Bass now gone to a good cause!!

Hi all, I've got a Johnny Brooke Jazz bass to give to a good home.I am rather attached to it as it was my 1st bass & my wife bought it for me,but it's sat in the corner gathering dust. It's in perfect working order,no dings or knocks to speak of.I took the scratch plate off & painted a rather good skull with a top hat & monicle on it,didn't put it back on,and i've since lost the screws. Also,i scratched "Johnny Brooke" off & replaced it with "Odd Bass" (Decals). I would rather this bass went to a youngster who is keen to learn.so if you have a budding rock star son/daughter/grandson/granddaughter,please PM me. Collection from Cheltenham,Gloucestershire. Cheers
Rotosounds used to be the "in" strings for the Ricky bass although i use Ti Flats on mine!
Thanks guys.Since i posted this i've discovered DR Hibeams...wow,great strings & complement the Duncans beautifully!! Cheers

Hi all, I have a Shine Rickenfaker with Seymour Duncan SRB1's fitted as standard. It sounds lovely with the factory fitted strings, however,i was wondering if you guys & gals out there could recommend me a set of strings that could help me along the way towards that sexy Rickenbacker sound (Round Steels,Nickel,D'addario's,Ric...etc).I know that it will never sound exactly like a Ric,and i certainly won't be able to afford a real one for a couple of years, but any tips would be much appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for the numerous responses guys Plenty to think about there.......I only need it for 2 songs we do,in particular "Stay Clean" by Motorhead.....I'm battling with two volume-greedy guitarists. Anyone heard of the Nobels PRE-1?? Are they any good? I might have the chance to pick one up cheap.

I'm desperate to find a cheap & cheerful boost pedal for my solos & was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction. I've read a bit about the Electro Harmonix "The Mole" which is a bass booster.Anyone out there have one? Thanx!!

Thanks for your prompt reply!! I should have mentioned that my budget is capped at £240......I did have a look at the MAG's but at £350ish,it's way too expensive for me...even the EB15 is too expensive when you have an accountant for a dear Wife!! I did also consider the Laney RB4?!! Did you have the EB12 EVO II?? Are there many negatives regarding this amp??
-
Hi all, I was just wondering if anybody has got any opinions/guidance on this combo. I've read some mixed reviews so far,but they were mainly for the EB12-180,not the EVO II version. I mainly want it for rehearsals & small gigs...Can this amp handle it??? Thanks in advance!!

Thanks for the replies & advice guys...........Well,i went back to the shop yesterday & had another blast on the Cort T34 & i love it....so much so,that i've ordered one!! Unfortunately, the one in the shop was a "Geometric copper" colour, which is weird because it's actually a sort of metallic silver flake colour...Anyway,i've ordered a black one & it's on it's way...I'll post pics as soon as. Also,i've decided to buy a Thunder 1...Currently watching 2 on the bay now.
Hello mate and welcome. Just out of interest, why have you limited yourself to those 2 basses? It might be worth setting yourself a budget and then checking out the for sale section on here. You'll most likely get a much better deal than ebay, and massively reduce your chances of getting ripped off. Just an idea....
Thanks BigBeef!! Well,i had a bit of a go on the T34 (Active) on Saturday...Nice & light, superb action & nice sound, plus,i love the Rickenbacker shape but unless i sell my wife,i'm never going to afford one!! Then there's the Thunder.....It was my 1st electric guitar 20 odd years ago & i loved it...I guess i'm going through a middle age "nostalgia" (Not "Crisis") & i would love to own one again... I've done a bit of a search on the T34 but to no avail...Anyone on here have one??? I'll keem 'em peeled in the sale section

Hi all, I'm a Rhythm guitarist by trade, but i've recently discovered what a beautiful instrument the bass is & how more at ease & comfortable i am playing it....I guess you could say that after 20 odd years of playing the guitar,i've finally found my "groove"!! Anyway,i've bought a super-cheap Johnny Brooke "Fender Jazz" copy....It does the job & actually sounds quite nice, however,it weighs 80,000 tonnes & the action is horrendous (i can't lower it anymore as it causes major fret-buzz).Time to upgrade!! I was wondering if anybody out there could advice me on wether to go for a new £300 Cort T34 or a £100 Thunder 1 off the bay... Thanks for your help!!!
