Really liked the GK Fusion S, one of the prettiest amp I’ve used too. Valve preamp section, still sounds like a GK but a little more natural warmth.

Compressor - Lusithand Alma (just fantastic, I dial in a lot of cleans for a more subtle effect but doesn’t feel like the attack suffers quite like some other comps I’ve tried) Flanger - Boss BF-3 (I’ve not tried many but the Boss just sounded good from the start) Octaver - Boss OC5 (Great tracking and super flexible, would love to hear some other octavers like the COG stuff although it’s not a sound I use much) Drive - EAE Halberd v2 (Incredibly flexible drive that works great as an always on or full on in your face chewy fuzz) Preamp - Jad Freer Capo (The one pedal can’t imagine being without, perfect for any situation) Multi - Mod Dwarf (Sounds absolutely incredible as an all-in-one, allows you to create some really unique sounds that other multi fx just wouldn’t come close to. That comes with caveats around the interface that, for me, mean it’s more of a desktop tool)

MOD Device (Dwarf/Duo/Duo X) owners' club - Tips, Ideas & Patches
MrDinsdale replied to SamIAm's topic in Effects
Well I’ve had my Dwarf up for sale for a while now since getting the GT1000core. Had another play on it earlier just to try a few things, it sounds incredible. Think I might just hang onto it and keep it plugged in on my desk permanently. The AIDA-X showcase is excellent, I plugged my guitar in and it instantly sounded better than my GT1000 guitar patch. Looking forward to see what they do with a dedicated Bass preamp plugin, I know it’s in the works but curious if they’ll go the tried and tested SVT route or perhaps something more modern. That being said there’s something great about being able to stitch the different preamps and tube emulations together to create something more personalised. I managed to get really close to the sound from the Capo. Previously I’d have said drives were a weak point for me on the Dwarf but the new Rude drive is incredible. So yeah still weighing it up but essentially the GT1000 stays because I can hook it into my existing bass pedalboard and add effects where I want between and around my dedicated pedals. The Dwarf definitely sounds better and is way more flexible, it’s just not really suitable for a place on my board due to connectivity. I think just for the reverbs and delays though it’s worth keeping, you can do some pretty amazing stuff which I thought I could emulate on the Core but no bueno. -

The second video played for me but not the first. It showed no audio coming out of the device until the output jack was pulled out about a cm. I've never had that issue, is it a mono jack? -
* Presence of tort. * Typically hate sunburst but can get on with an extremely subtle burst. * Currently anything more than 4 strings. * Anything with elongated or excessively pointy top/bottom horns. * Single cut, seen some I like but wouldn’t buy. * Anything over £800, some of my favourite basses are just nicely set up £400-500 so can’t ever imagine spending loads on a bass again unless it was really special/custom.

Ahhhh that explains why I couldn't find it in the UK, definitely not interested in shipping anything from a private seller outside the UK even if it does seem like a bargain. I have however spotted a beautiful pair of white and black 1024x on FB which look pretty much imaculate.

That was my thought exactly!

👆and it’s still a more convincing relic than the bb1200 above 😂😂😂

Thats an excellent price, I really like the look of them aside from the rich mahogany red on the rear of the body/neck. From all the demos I’ve heard they sound incredible too. I’ve got this monstrosity which is absolutely knackered. A Yamaha RGX612a (I think) that got given years ago. The threading on the locking nut and trem are totally shot so it’s a floaty untunable mess. Kind of tempted to strip out the hardware, fill the bridge area in and replace with a hardtail. It’s got a heap of mojo and despite it’s tuning issues plays brilliantly 😂

I did the opposite I started on 5 string Warwick style basses and fairly recently transitioned back towards 4 string Fender style stuff. It sounds like you want something different to mix things up so I’d definitely go with the short scale or a fan fret that’s quite radically different for variety. If it doesn’t work out you can always sell it on, especially if you buy 2nd hand. I played a 4 string Dingwall and was blown away by how it played although not super into how they look.

Very interesting. Yeah I always used to gravitate towards ebony but my current favourite basses are maple and rosewood so I think the feel is much less pronounced to me that I thought it was. I've never been in a position to really test side by side with such similar setups, I'm enjoying experimenting vicariously though through your videos 😂

I loved the COG pedal! Agreed on Boss and Behringer though.
-
Yeah I think that’s inline with what I was thinking. Except for the fretboard, never really thought of the fretboard material having much effect aside from feeling different. Im definitely planning to do a Yamaha BB/Wal DIY hybrid at some point once I’ve got the time and money. Spent far too much on pedals recently! 🙃
-
Looking forward to it! It’d be interesting to see once you’ve nailed the sound on the Walish what the new turner pickups and NFP sounded like in the original test bed modded p-bass. I wonder just how much of the sound is from the electronics. Although it’d obviously be a real pain to rewire.
-
PS anyone got/had a Revstar? Would like a new guitar at some point and they look great, it’s between that or a Peavy T-60 if I can find a reasonable price for it.
-
I’m so surprised by this BB734A, gutted I didn’t go for it straight away instead of the Schecter p4 exotic. It’s the perfect sound for what I need, so punchy and feels great to play. My only criticism is that it’s not as comfy (for me) to sit and play compared to Jazz or Warwick style basses. Definitely want to pick up a 1024x at some point, gonna get saving!

Stainless steel strings damage nickel frets?
MrDinsdale replied to max_overdrive's topic in Accessories and Misc
This is the key bit for me. I don’t believe that SS strings on nickel frets will “literally wreck your frets so fast it’s not even funny”. I think it’ll take a long time either way. -
This is a great round up of some heavy hitters, some surprises in there too!
-
Much of the criteria is potentially subjective but of all the drives I’ve played the EAE Halberd comes closest to that. It’s more in the mid gain territory but can get pretty fuzzy when pushed. It has 3 voicings which range from clanky highs to warm thick bass but its middle setting (to me) seems pretty flat. I previously used it as an always on low gain grit but more recently I’ve been using it at higher gain albeit a little more on the thick fuzzy side. I keep meaning to record some samples on bass as there’s only really guitar demos out there.
-
Super useful to know, I’ve tried googling it but found nothing. I can’t imagine using more than a couple at any given time though!
-
Is there a limit of how many captures you can use simultaneously? I have a MOD Dwarf and managed to get some pretty decent AIDA-X captures of my Capo and some EAE pedals but you’re pretty much restricted to 2 amp/pedal captures before the CPU starts maxing out. I don’t have a QC but it’s one of those things that’s pretty tempting to replace my dedicated pedals one day.

I think I stomp my pedals too hard to do this 😂
