KHDK Electronics TOTALITY Bass Distortion (V-Man Slipknot signature)
MrDinsdale replied to JobuDRK79's topic in Effects
Aye variety is great, can’t like everything! Yeah got the GNP currently on my board as my main drive. I wouldn’t say it was a overly high gain sound but more noisy I’m shooting for. For drives I’m running the GNP into the EAE Halberd which provides a baseline level of grit and clank, a little similar to a Rusty Box. That goes into the JF Capo which does some EQ and a sprinkle of special sauce. I think first ever drive for bass was some a big muff, it’s only the last few years I’ve really gotten into drives/effects. -

Good video but not really feeling the pedal. The drive pedal market is so saturated (chortle) that they really need to be really good to stick out. All subjective but for me there are just too many pedals that do the clean blend better like Damnation Audio stuff and the Lusithand Ground n Pound etc. -
Well I picked up the 734 today. First impressions are excellent! Replaced the bridge with a Babicz I got cheap and added some new strings, gave it a rough set up and now it sounds very clear and punchy. Way more natural growl there than I expected too. My original plan was to pops couple of multicoil humbucker pickups in for a Wal vibe. I actually like it too much to deface it so think I’ll just make a new body, not too far off the Amos Heller custom with those so I can always switch back if I want the original. That’ll take time to get sorted, until then this is my new favourite bass! Jury is still out on the painted neck, it feels way better than expected although still think I’d prefer cosmetically if it was natural wood on the back. In no hurry to sand it down or anything though.

Very cool unit which really really stands out from other modellers with its open source approach and LV2 plugin architecture. Add to that the AIDA-X profiling/capturing of fx pedals/amps and convolution reverbs available (included). Ill pop a full list of included premium plugins when I get chance but includes a convolution reverb pack, JCMV AIDA-X amp sim, mastering plugin and a range of other drives and modulation plugins. Shame to let it go as I’ve had a lot of fun playing with this. It really does do the whole rig in a box thing, it just doesn’t integrate with my existing pedalboard quite as well as I’d hoped with the lack of integrated fx loops. For people who want to geek out and create something off the beaten track. Comes with carry case and power supply etc. Can ship at buyers expense. Message with any questions! £300 flash sale for this weekend (spotted more shiny things I want)

If it sounds good on paper! One thing I would say is while the multiband processing is an awesome feature it’s definitely worth getting a simple linear chain up and running first if you’re struggling. I got carried away with it when I first got mine and while it was fun, I think it got in the way a little. From there it should be much more obvious where the multiband stuff would be beneficial. The 200/250hz overlap sounds good but I’d just see how it sounds, the roll off is pretty subtle so you might find that it’s a pretty big boost to the lower frequencies.

I’ve always loved the look of the 734a, the matte black, the shape of the inlays and the design on the headstock. I’m currently playing in a pretty noisy rock band at the mo, mostly with pick. I love the tone of my Schecter J bass but just really struggle getting the action where I want it compared to my bass with a multi laminate neck. Hoping the 734 fairs a little better in this regard. How have people found the neck/action?

The blurb: The Electronic Audio Experiments Longsword is yet another contender in the endless void of op-amp based drive pedals—familiar but with some novel twists. Cascaded gain stages allow for the full range from clean boost to massive distortion, all without sacrificing tonal flexibility. The equalizer combines bass and treble shelving filters with an active, frequency-selectable midrange boost/cut control. This lets the user sculpt a diverse array of tones and carve out a niche in even the most dense of mixes. The Longsword has a broad frequency response which makes it work equally well with guitar, baritone, and bass. I know I’m going to regret this but I’ve just got too much gain on my board right now. I can’t really make up my mind if I like the Ground n Pound or the Longsword the most but the GNP is newer and therefore gets to stay. This is an absolute beast of a distortion but also capable of some very subtle grit. I suspect if it sells I’ll probably miss it and pickup it’s smaller cousin Dagger v2. Used but immaculate with original box. Local pickup or buyer pays postage.

Dunno about ampeg specialist but Sound Service in Castleford have always been recommended to me. -
Tbf I’ve never played the 734 or seen one in real life so I might feel differently when I get my hands on it. I’ve never enjoyed painted necks but then they’ve often been more glossy so perhaps the matte finish is going to change my mind! Nice idea with the pick guard👌I love the matte black pick guard on my Schecters.

Yeah it seems like such a waste. I’m still confused as to why the 734a is only available with a painted neck too, sure some people like that but I’ve always hated it especially when it has such a nice neck to show off. I’m possibly going to trade for a 734a but I’ll be sanding the paint off the neck pretty swiftly!

New addition with the Lusithand Ground & Pound means all new layout. How much dirt is too much? So far enjoying it, intended to replace the Longsword if I liked it more but jury’s out so figured it just get the lot on there 🙌

I’d assume Amp is just a regular output, just an odd choice of label. You can daisy chain one or multiple pedals if you have a power supply that has the connections. Just make sure they’re all the 9v and presumably centre negative. Daisy chaining pedals is fine but as you start introducing more you may start to notice more noise etc which is usually where a more fancy isolated power supply comes in handy. It really depends on the specific pedals and supply etc though.

Exceptional recreation of the IVP preamp and Harmonic Percolator inspired by Steve Albini. This is absolutely killer on guitar, particularly the Harmonic Percolator fuzz circuit. It actually sounds fantastic on bass but just not enough to dethrone my Model Fet for the tone I want. Very cool pedal, incredible build quality and super versatile. I’d hang onto it if I played guitar more but can’t afford to keep stuff I’m not actively using on my board right now. Price includes UK shipping https://www.andertons.co.uk/guitar-dept/guitar-pedals/fuzz-pedals/electronic-audio-experiments-dude-incredible-v2

I usually just have my LPF on the Capo which is more than sufficient for live/rehearsals. When I’m at home going straight through headphones I sometimes use the free Shiftline IRs for a little more warmth. I bought some York Audio Ampeg 810 IRs which sound great but still always end up going back to the freebies.

I really like the Baer ML cab which has a 6” mid driver instead of a typical tweeter, never gets overly hissy and cuts through great. Just need a second to cut through with our obscenely loud drummer. I do also have a LPF on my Capo preamp enabled though. I also loved the Barefaced cabs with tweeters, again just sounded clear without being shrill even with distortion. The EBS and Ashdown cabs I’ve used at rehearsal pretty much always have them set at the lowest setting though.

Haha I thought it was around 300, not that it’d be cheap but cheaper than owning a power amp and a separate full head I guess 😂

The Capo is the one pedal I can imagine using in any context or genre. Very interested in the Coda although the Handbox WB100 really is sublime. My reason for Sisma over the Coda would be redundancy for not a lot extra. Going into the Sisma fx return should be virtually the same as going into the Coda.

Its an awesome little box, easily the most versatile preamp I’ve used. I like to use it in conjunction with other preamps for more noisy stuff but it’s always there, for anything cleaner or even a little added grit I’ve found it perfect by itself though. As soon as I disable it the tone becomes noticeably flatter and looses some sparkle. Would love to know how you get on!!! Enjoy!

Ahhh missed the bit about the 2nd band being backline only.

I thought they had a PA so it’s purely for onstage monitoring? I skimmed the thread so may have missed something.
