This plant is a miracle, it's almost as old as me. I once forgot to water it for a whole year and it still just looked the same as when I actually made an effort to look after it 😂 It's a zombie plant!

Finally got a cab I can use to play my WB100 at home. Originally planned on a BF Supercompact or BB2 but then came across this Baer ML112. Sounds incredible so far at lower volumes but should be able to try it out next week at practice properly. I'll possibly need a 2nd for gigs and stuff but gonna give it a go and see how it holds its ground against 2 Marshall 4x12s 😬 Will report back once I've had more time to play.

Jad Freer Capo is great, I've managed to dial in a great sansamp like tone with it but it's so versatile. Great sounding drive too 🙌

Probably a purchase for next month or the one after for me! Kind of intrigued to swap out the Hyper Luminal for an alma too. The HL is fine but love the diamond type compressors, the alma sounds excellent in all the demos.

Speaker cable question (running 2x big twin 2 gen3..)
MrDinsdale replied to Benji85's topic in Amps and Cabs
Yeah I think lesson here is try and avoid flippant comments where possible, that being said has taken every bit of feedback regarding gear suggestions onboard. For what its worth my current band is all loud and aggressive noisy punk stuff, the drummer is loud out of neccessity and not wearing ear protection is completely out of the question even if we're just at rehersals and taking it easy. That's not a reflection on the drummers compitance, it's just music that requires a little heavy handedness. Dunno if it'd help but I found my Two10 looked like the speakers were going to fly off even at reasonably low volumes until I got a Thumpinator v2 on my board. Might be worth adding a HPF to cut out some of the unwanted low noise, especially if you're pushing the bass more on the EQ. -
At least with Joyo if something goes wrong you have some recourse from them or the retailer. I've always loved the sound of the Alpha Omicron but would never use it enough to justify the cost I don't think, if they did do a clone I'd be super tempted!

Speaker cable question (running 2x big twin 2 gen3..)
MrDinsdale replied to Benji85's topic in Amps and Cabs
Na thats fair although people can play in bands for 20 years casually without having exposure to bigger setups and hardware etc. It just seems like a lot of people jumping in stirring up an argument with a new member while providing no real suggestions or constructive feedback, seems a little more Talkbass than Basschat is all. -

I'm not sure what you're advocating? Are you against the use of ear protection? -

Most of the heavier bands I've played with the drummers have been far too loud to play without protection. That's got nothing to do with a lack of talent, just the kind of music demands it. Back on topic, I'd say the big twin is definitely not the weak link in your setup. I've played a super twin with my old GK Fusion S 800 and it's been uncomfortably loud even with ear protection and stood well away. The cab barely broke a sweat and it's not as high output as yours. -
I was playing at home the other evening and went to switch on a pedal but it was totally dead. Closer inspection it was hot and had the harrowing smell of smouldering silicone. The Cioks DC7 powering it was hot too. Chatting to the folks from Cioks and EAE who produce the Model FeT (RIP) it sounds more and more likely that a power surge was responsible. Especially after digging and finding out that on top of the hot weather there was lightning warnings around the same time (nothing nearby that I'm aware of). I use surge protected power extensions for most stuff including my pedalboard, if it was a power surge then they clearly didn't help. Cioks recommended Furman, a AC120a would be enough for my amp and pedals but at £180ish that's way more than I wanna spend and is the size of a class d head! It's cheaper than replacing amps and pedals though! What do other people use? Any other good recommendations to protect my gear.

So the DC7 and the exploding Model FeT plot thickens somewhat, just recalled someone at work mentioning thunderstorms earlier in the week. I did a little googling and it was on Monday evening which was when it happened. Coupled with some very hot weather perhaps it was in fact a power surge that caused it. If it was a surge then the surge protection afforded by the extension I use clearly did little to help. I don't really want to drop £200 on a furman unit or similar. Then again if it happened again it could easily cause more than that in damages.

Yeah I found that I had a bit of trial and error finding which pedals worked best via daisy chaining. I probably won't sell my C4 for that very reason, already maxed out on outlets and have some holes to fill!
-
Yeah that's fair, I can barely speak english and it's my only language 😂 Yeah it could be that the pedal failed and caused a short. I'm going to try and send it back to EAE, they have someone in Dublin who can look so I don't have to ship it all the way back to Canada.
-
PS worth mentioning I still really love the Cioks products and will continue to use the DC7 once I get a replacement and have a little more confidenct of plugging it in. I was just a little underwhelmed at the response and the tone of it considering how much amazing stuff I've heard about them, I'm sure it was just an off day. I'm still not convinced at all that this was just the result of dirty power etc but equally don't have any way to know so going to buy another surge protector and hope for the best once the replacement arrives. Until then I'll fallback to my C4 and all the daisy chains can handle. Hopefully I'll be able to source a replacement EAE Model Fet or get it repaired.

Na all the wires were the correct center negative ones, all 9v on the jumpers and plugged into the same surge protected extension that I've used for the last year or so. I definitely get that, it's possible to have a polite conversation without admitting culpability. I dunno, just glad Andertons are at least willing to switch it out for a different unit so I can at least have a little confidence to use my pedalboard again.

I got my Cioks DC7 just over a week ago after upgrading from the Cioks 4. Instantly noticed an improvement in noise, 8 pedals on the C4 required a lot of daisy chaining. Anyways a couple of nights ago I was playing around on guitar, went to switch on my Model fet pedal and it totally cutout. Had a fiddle to see if the child had knocked the volume and gains down and noticed it was hot, checked the DC7 and that was really hot too. Unplugged and left it to cool down but the Model fet smelt burnt. Tried plugging it in with the C4 supply straight in to the interface and it's completely dead, lights on but no one is home. Messaged Cioks explaining what had happened and that it had made me a nervous to plug in again etc incase anything else blew up. There wasn't anything accusational in there, I was just looking for answers on what could have happened and a little assurance. Instantly it felt like they jumped on the defensive, blaming the house electrics and dirty power and that it's my fault for not carting a £200 power conditioner around with my pedalboard. Just felt like a bit of a copout really and left me still hesitant about plugging in the pedalboard. I've lost one hard to find boutique effects pedal which is properly gutting and can't really afford to replace, can't afford to loose any more. On the flipside, John at EAE was super helpful when I asked if he had any ideas if the pedal was salvageable despite buying me it 2nd hand. Equally messaged Andertons and they've been super responsive and helpful.

Selling used pedals. How do you figure out what to charge?
MrDinsdale replied to lidl e's topic in Effects
90% for a readily available pedal seems mad even if brand new condition but ultimately they're entitled to list it for whatever they feel it's worth. I think the most I've paid for a pedal relative to its retail value was £210 for the Model FeT which retailed at £259. That was out of stock everywhere at the time and impossible to get without importing it so i was happy to pay that and avoid the 6-9 month wait. -
The WB100 flat is a pretty perfect all round bass tone, I tend to crank the mids for some extra clank on aggressive stuff but otherwise flat.
-
i used to really struggle with boomy tones with my old GK Fusion S and I found the Thumpinator HPF helped a lot along with easing back a little on the bass a tad. Can't speak for the R400 but same work's pretty well for the WB100 although it wasn't particularly boomy without.
-
That sounds even more intriguing, sounds like retrofitting on an older bass might actually be pretty trivial.
-
Yeah they're really remarkable but given the lack of UK distribution you kind of have to take a bit of a gamble on shipping and taxes etc. It's the ultimate all round utility pedal though for tone shaping, excellent DI and surgical EQ. To be honest between the Origin, Ampeg and more boutique options like the Capo you're gonna get a pretty incredible sound. If it's enough to offset the GAS is another question altogether 😂
-
I guess the morale of this post is that there are a lot of options out there! If you don't mind loosing a little money on return shipping you might be better making the most of return policies and try them out. Could grab a bassrig and the ampeg and audition them both, send back the looser. Preferably after doing some side by side recording's of them for us to listen to 🙌

Also Joe's Pedals is the place to go and spend all your money, he's a most excellent person.
