  1. They are just incredible pedals, mostly known for the Model FeT (Sunn Model T in a box) but they have some ace gear. Apparently John, the owner has been hugely influencial in the boutique pedal market and has his name on a lot of PCBs for other brands etc. I did a little bit of a playthrough with the FeT, intend to do one for the Longsword and Halberd on bass though as they're excellent.
  2. So it's pay day... Two paths lay before me. I could get the Boss again, super flexible in terms of integration with existing pedals. Lots of benefits like saving instrument profiles so I can normalise levels going into my drives etc as I have one very hot bass. I know the ecosystem, not as flexible as Mod and unlikely to see any real software updates. Then on the other side is Mod, never played it and don't know how it'll stack up sonically but demos are good. Pretty limitless routing and open source which I love, even if the company went under again it'd probably receive more quality of life improvements from the community than Boss are going to deliver. It doesn't however integrate as nicely with my analog pedals and introduces a lot of latency, especially when using the channels as an fx loop instead of stereo. Cant make meaningful changes directly without another device. Still can't decide, can get both for around £400, new for the dwarf or 2nd hand for the Core. Still leaning towards the Mod Dwarf, so much potential to do really cool stuff with it. Still it's a lot of money, especially considering the volatility of the company. Even though it could be supported by the community, if their plugin store goes down it adds a significant amount of faff.
  3. It's a very accurate recreation of some JC flavour, incredibly versatile for such a small pedal. His tone is very mid focused though. If you're in the market for a Rat like drive but want some extra tone shaping and clean blending then you can't really go wrong with this pedal.

I think the Darkglass stuff is quality gear and can be dialled in for way less of that well known tone. Tastes change, I've gone the opposite where I only ever really used a little compressor a few years back but now my board is full of snarly grit and clanky drives. There are a lot of flavours of distortion out there to sample, some more nourishing than others.
  5. Super informative! I can't imagine we'll ever go ampless in the near future tbh although I can see the perks and why people do.
  6. And do you have control of your own on-stage mix or do you leave that to the sound engineer? Just curious as it's incredibly uncommon in the bands we play with. I know for a fact no one else in the band would have any interest in going ampless but interesting to know.
  7. Just out of curiosity, the bands playing with fully ampless rigs, are you playing with other bands and if so are they using similar setups? I don't think we've played a single gig with any bands using an ampless setup so usually everything is mic'd up ready to go, just a case of switching heads and breakables etc. I'd imagine switching between a stage fully configured for full backline to ampless then back again would be a bit of a nightmare, especially with quick changeovers.
  8. Handbox WB-100, every time I plug in it brings a big smile to my face, just sounds incredible. Its got all the heft of a 40kg all-valve monster but at a reasonable 15kg and compact size that makes it perfectly portable. Also on the opposite end of the spectrum a special call out to the GK Fusion S which was an amazingly versatile little amp. Had I not joined a band full of valve enthusiasts I'd have probably happily still been playing it.
  9. Gave it another listen and actually I do think the added compression on the mix makes for some pretty awesome tones. There are just too many great drive pedals out there 💦
  10. The capo is worth exploring as a drive pedal first as its super flexible. Personally I prefer the Capo low-mid gain tones but if you decided to go a different direction then there's a lot of options out there to add some grit. One good thing about keeping the Capo is that it'd make a great fly rig option if you couldn't justify taking the Noble. Cant imagine you'd have any problem selling it on here!
  11. Yeah exactly, I'm not ruling it out by any means as it definitely sounds good. Might have another listen and see how close I can get with the Longsword and Halberd. I'd happily give the Alma a go, had I not already picked up a Hyper Lumnial before I read about the Alma I'd have gone for that I think.
  12. Sounds awesome! It's a lot of money to spend but it seems to offer a lot of cool options, I'm quite enjoying all my basses being completely passive at the moment though 😂
  13. If anything watching this made me want to buy a lusit hand NFP onboard preamp more 😂
  14. That sounds pretty awesome. I gotta admit though anytime I hear a drive made by anyone other than Electronic Audio Experiments I'm a little underwhelmed. I'm not sure why, I could just be a big fanboy, there's something about their pedals which I'm too technically illiterate to describe or its more about the demos. Definitely a solid flexible drive to put on your board, if you could only have one filth pedal it sounds like a good candidate.
  15. Same!!! They are incredible 🙌
  16. Makes sense although if the other bands on the bill are all using their traditional full stacks it still presents a logistical challenge for FOH and change overs etc. My pedal board is fully kitted out for an amp-less setup and have done it in the past with sound straight through wedges. I'd certainly give it a go but I know for a fact the rest of the band would have zero interest.
  17. I think the kind of music you play will have a big influence on it. Playing in a noisy punk band, the bands on the lineup are on a scale of pretty loud to obnoxiously loud. Don't think I've ever seen anyone with a full IEM setup on any of the gigs, closest was a band using the for vocal harmonies but they were still standing in front of Marshal stacks.
  18. Ahhhh man I love Justin Chancellors bass tone almost as much as spending money I don't have so this is perfect 🙌
  19. Still on the fence a little between the GT1000core and Mod Dwarf but 75% in favour of the Dwarf currently. Will have to see where I'm at on payday though. Been checking out lots of older videos and some of the synth and glitchy weird ambient stuff you can do is absolutely incredible, certainly stuff you could never achieve on the Core. Just shame there isn't more content out there about it or samples on Soundcloud etc.
  20. Absolutely! I only daisy chain the drives and preamps which handle it noise free.
  21. Oooo really? That's interesting! Well I still want a bigger supply so I'm less dependent on daisy chaining but good to know I don't have to rush to grab one.
  22. I think its 12v 1A minimum so it'd need two outlets on the cioks which puts out 500ma per outlet at 12v. I've already got 7-8 pedals connected using some daisy chaining 😂 Tbf I'd consider loosing a drive looper, and the compressor if I could replace them with a digital version. The Capo, Model FeT, Thumpinator and Halberd/Longsword are the essential pedals and they all do fine on a daisy chain with out any noticeable noise.
  23. I think the cioks needs a 24v supply but could work.
  24. Sorry for derailing into Jad Freer fanboyism.
