Decided I love it too much to sell 😂 Selling a pristine GK Fusion S 800 bass head. Super light and portable tube amp, probably the most beautiful looking amp I've ever seen. In the market for a P/PJ style bass, especially Yamaha BB series for potential trades/part trades. According to GK: The Fusion S Series Heads are GK’s brand new Class D Model heads with a tube preamp. The rich warmth of tubes combined with the quick, punchy power section that GK bass amps are known for is an experience like no other. These high powered heads incorporate three 12ax7 tubes in the preamp, including one dedicated to the overdrive channel, making it GK’s first ever tube driven overdrive channel. Illuminated knobs add an extra level of sophistication and design by not only making it easier to dial in your tone on stage and but adding a beautiful stage presence as well. Each illuminated knob is also push activated, with additional voicing filters and tonal characteristics built in. Tube Preamp with (3) 12ax7s Four band active EQ Foot Switchable Tube Overdrive with Tone Control (Footswitch Included) Illuminated Knobs with Push Activation "Bump", "Contour", and "Presence" Push Button Voicing Filters Balanced XLR Output with Pre and Post EQ Unbalanced ¼” Send and Return Aux Input and Headphones Output Twist Lock Speaker Outputs 2, 2.7, 4 and 8ohm Load Capacity 11.5” Width x 11” Depth x 2 3/8” Only selling because I've decided to take the plunge into the ultra portable realm of a peddleboard mounted preamp and power amp. If I had the money to justify keeping both I would, it's one of the best sounding amps I've ever tried, I like it even more than my GK 700RB which is saying a lot! Theres one tiny scratch on top (see pictures) but other than that it's in practictically perfect condition. Happy to organise postage at the buyers expense, if it's fairly local I could probably deliver or meet halfway. Open to offers! (I thought this was dust but looks like a very subtle scratch) I I do have the original manual and box however I used some of the original foam packaging to add extra protection in the case.

My slightly underwhelming pedalboard 🤣 tbh I don't like the big muff and my GK Fusion S overdrive channel is sufficient for my needs. I'm also not really bothered about the MXR compressor, thinking of a Darkglass SS or Hyper Luminal which is a little less transparent perhaps. Not a clue what to replace the big muff with!

My Corvette I got just before lockdown/covid, always wanted a Warwick after playing a Thumb in my local music shop. My first ever bass was a Tanglewood Corvette copy so it's nice to go full circle and have the real thing! I feel like I'm going to regret finding this thread 😬 Think I may need to start saving for a Thumb next.

Alpher do a load of this too, absolutely incredible although I'm personally more keen on the more minimalist builds. (If minimalist is really a suitable term 🤣) https://alpher.co.uk/bass-gallery/

Ps nice work on the stingray, looking great!

@Fishmaninteresting! I'm going for a bit of a "none more black" vibe the so less of that natural redness of the mahogany peeping through the better! Thankfully (as far as colouring goes) it's the palest mahogany I've ever seen, probably due to the extremely reasonable price I got the kit for so hopefully it should take the colour reasonably well 🤣

Nice! I was looking at these earlier but good to hear confirmation from someone who's used them. Tbh I might just commit and order it direct from crimson but really appreciate the offer!

Sadly all glossy finishes unfortunately 😭

Firstly sorry for posting a guitar 😬 tl;dr - I want to give this maghogany body a matt black stain finish, any recommendations for black stains? Context I'm currently working on finishing up a budget Tele kit I got online, couldn't justify the time or money building from scratch unless it was a new bass. Just finished routing patching up the cavities for a dual humbucker setup and getting everything drilled out. For the finish I was originally going to go for a black body and ebony veneer on the headstock. Or potentially some really figured burly veneer I found for the headstock and layering it up to make a pickguard along these lines: I need to decide on a stain to use to get the body black, I've seen a few mentions of using Fiebing leather dye but very few pictures of the final finished thing. I know stewmac have some good stains but the shipping costs and times are going to be more hefty than I'd like! Does anyone have any advice on what to go for? Cheers!

I wish I could afford to buy one but definitely going to start collecting parts to build one. They look and sound great!
-
This looks ace! Was thinking of trying to build something similar for fun, traveling and encouraging the offspring to play. My main concern was the hardware but all looks fairly standard dimension wise. What sort of strings does it take?
-
I love my tiny GK Fusion s and Barefaced two10 rig but I have to say I felt very self conscious stood across from the guitarist with his ridiculously oversized Mesa dual rectifier rig and floor covered in pedals. 🤣
-
Only used them twice but both times they've been great, definitely my first choice for bass gear since.

What was the first music you heard in 2022?
MrDinsdale replied to NancyJohnson's topic in General Discussion
Sparks - Angst in my pants, it never fails to get our 20 month old dancing. -
It weighs a hell of a lot! I decided to keep it as is and just give it some little quality of life improvements. I think I'll hold out and build a new one instead if I get time, until then I've got my Warwick corvette which is a little more convenient for taking to practices and gigs, certainly a good deal lighter!!!

That's a very good shout, I popped over the other night to raid his tools and electronics stuf and found a really nice maple and wenge through next, glued but un-shaped so perhaps I can talk him in to giving me that and doing a new design instead 🤣
-
@Richard RYeah I think nostalgia is the thing that made me stop and take a pause on re-designing it. That being said it'd be a nice oppourtunity to do something again like this with my dad, i certainly need his tools and equipment! @JimotheyI think what i found with a minimal design change is that it's severely limited by how close the bridge is to the end of the body. I think if I had more space to play with I'd opt for a shape more like this:
-
Ps my reasons for changing it are mostly aesthetic and practicality. Always needing a corner to prop it up in and looking like a melted Warwick thumb hasn't aged well. Tonally, its one of the best basses i've played and the sustain is so good its almost awkward!

Designed and built this bass when I was 16 with the help of my dad (fortunately a luthier). 18 years later I have a few issues with the half Warwick, half explorer design I decided on. Toying with the idea of resulting if I can find a close matching piece of bubinga to replace the pointy bit. The other option (more expensive) is to cut off the wings entirely and do a full redesign. Or finally leave as is with some light re shaping to round off some areas and add some contours to make it a little more comfortable. Quality of life improvements Vs large changes. I've done some quick rough ideas for what the first option might look like. Any feedback or suggestions would be welcome! I'm leaning towards leaving as is or the nuclear chopping off the wings entirely options atm.

The GK 700 RB is fantastic, the fans don't really kick in until you start cranking up the volume so it's great for playing at low volumes. I'd recommend having a go on one first as it's all pretty subjective but tbh I think they sound incredible. I have mine for sale currently. I know I'm gonna regret it but need something a little smaller I can chuck in a bag to take to gigs so thinking of going for a GK legacy/fusion s instead.

Monster of an amp, got this years ago and has been gigged a bit but spent most of it's life in a rackmount case so aside from the odd scuff here. Recently had it serviced so it's had a good clean out etc and all in great working condion. Absolutely the last price reduction before I just keep it in storage until the day I have a need for it! Can include the 4u Gator case too for free. The Aphex 204 pictured in the rack is not included. Happy to take it out of the rack for additional pictures if anyone wants. https://www.andertons.co.uk/bass-dept/bass-amps/bass-amp-heads/solid-state-bass-amp-heads/gallien-krueger-700-rb-ii-bass-head Collection is preferable! Also selling the 410RBH - If anyone is interested in the full setup let me know and we can work something oout Also in the market for a PJ style bass, especially the Yamaha BB bases for potential trades/part trades.

Absolute beast of a cab, especially if coupled with on of the bi-amped GK heads. All in great condition with the exception of the wheels which need replacing although I believe are pretty easy to find, just never got around to using it. Definitely the last price reduction before I just keep it in storage until the day I have a need for it! Selling because I just dont use it enough or have the space to store it, the child is consuming more space daily. Ideally looking for £275 but open to offers. Collection only as it pretty chunky. Also. In the market for a PJ bass, especially Yamaha BB series for potential trades/part trades. For more info see - https://www.andertons.co.uk/bass-dept/bass-amps/bass-amp-cabs/gallien-krueger-410-rbh-8-ohm-bass-cab Specs: Equipped with: 4x 10" speakers + horn Power consumption: 800 W Impedance: 8 Ohm Wedge housing Dimensions (W x H x D): 60.96 x 69.85 x 45.72 cm Weight: 45.35 kg Incl. speaker twist cable Made in USA

What do you struggle with in regards to music theory?
MrDinsdale replied to greghagger's topic in Theory and Technique
When I started I was really into Primus, Tool and Mr Bungle and all that sort of stuff so lots of rock and metal with lots of slap bass and stuff like that. Now though most of the stuff I've been doing is far more folky/bluesy rock stuff. Still love playing some soul, funk and rocky stuff. Pretty open minded though to anything when it comes to bass, even if it's not strictly something I'd listen to.- 54 replies

What do you struggle with in regards to music theory?
MrDinsdale replied to greghagger's topic in Theory and Technique
Sorry to necro a thread but thought I'd jump on this one rather than start another! I've always struggled with music theory as a whole, I can learn arpeggios, scales, modes and chords etc but there's something about the application of them that's just never sunk in beyond the basics. I always feel like I'm just missing that little thing that ties it all back together and unlocks it. Had a good 5 years of not playing much at all and just jumped back in and decided to give it yet another go. I think it'd help having some musicians that had a good theory background to play with but that's a work in progress. Any good recommendations for books/videos would be great! Also did anyone find it helpful to learn on another instrument to avoid relying too heavily on learning shapes?- 54 replies

I built this about 18 years ago when I was about 16 (fortunate my dad is a luthier 😃) which is like a melted warwick thumb 🤣. It's remarkably inconvinient, if I did make another bass it would be a very different shape but this thing sounds amazing.
