  1. Also going through some Bowie songs after attending a local Bowie birthday tribute the other night. Some great bass lines in there, particularly on The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust, really fun to play.
  2. I'm learning some Rush. I kinda learned Spirit of Radio and Limelight years ago but only enough to wing it, in particular I never properly learned the more fiddly bits correctly. My technique was always horrible too so taking the time to try and really nail the muting etc. It's been pretty challenging to build speed and accuracy back up after doing a hard reset of 15 years bad habits. Getting there though!
  3. Yeah I had similar feelings. Only tried it once in a band context but really dropped out of the mix. Also really struggled with stacking on anything except a tuner. I've heard other people make it sound great though, I think it probably just depends how your using it and how your bass is voiced.
  4. I’d have to trim them down to fit, certainly possible though.
  5. Managed to squeeze one last purchase of a DG Element before the end of the year. Now I can fool myself into thinking I have a chance of gear acquisition abstinence for 2025.
  6. I enjoyed the bass loads playing with pick with my old band. When I've been using for more fingerstyle stuff recently its just a little awkward and uncomfortable. Going to check out some of the suggestions 👌
  7. I love the sound, hate the shape! Was tempted to see if I could get a cover to fit them. Interestingly I've found them really low output compared to all my other guitars/basses. The SDs are a good shout. Not totally fixated on the big poles but they do look cool, same goes for Nordy blades.
  8. Decided to stick a little compact board together, annoyingly can't find a single available fig8 power cable in the house to power it… It looks like it'll sound awesome though 👌
  9. I've got a Schecter J bass which I really love to play, sounds great too. The only annoyance is the pickup shape which are super uncomfortable. Kind of tempted by Relentless J pickups but they'll be significantly hotter than these. I wouldn't say they were overly vintage or modern, they kind of sit somewhere in the middle. I love the look of the big pole pieces. I'm really just fishing for justification to purchase more stuff.
  10. Got myself a cheeky Origin DCX Bass as an early pressie. Its a keeper!
  11. I keep eying them up but I know that I'd do the same. I like the idea more than the reality!
  12. The Go is excellent, its been a game changer for when the child is asleep in the car or just needs supervision. Nice to just sit in front of the TV for a noodle too.
  13. Multifx feels like cheating but probably the Quad Cortex for me. For all the stick it gets for the built in models, the Hiwatt bass amp and the clean amp from the Gojira extension are absolutely fantastic on bass. Add to that being able to load up some very accurate captures of some fave pedals like the SLO is incredible. Honourable mention to the Science Mother preamp (EAE collab) which sounds incredible for both guitar and bass. The inclusion of the depth and absence controls aswell as the 3 band eq make it a great tone shaper. The dirty channel emphasises some frequencies on bass that I don't personally care for in isolation but I think would help cut through in a mix pretty well, otherwise it might take the no. 1 spot.
  14. Tough one, I haven't really got any bad pedals but if I had to pick, there's two that don't get much use. First up is the Walrus Canvas tuner, looks great and very accurate but got it just before the Quad Cortex which rendered it somewhat useless. Second would be a vintage EAE Longsword v2. Great character and delivers some excellent filth on guitar but lacks headroom compared with the v4.5 I had previously. I do need to spend a little more time getting to know it but can't see it becoming a permanent fixture on my board.
  15. Totally forgot about my Boss Katana:Go! Its pretty great, perfect for noodling or playing along to stuff while the child is distracted and I get a few mins. Shame it got discontinued after the 1st batch pretty much due to supply chain issues. It does make me sad that its even more unlikely to receive future quality of life improvements too, not that Boss are well known for high software update cadence.
  16. Finally get to have a play with the DCX Bass, loving the EQ mode for some light touch tone sculpting 👌
  17. EAE Model Fet + EAE Dagger (or pretty much any mid to high gain drive). Also the Origin Cali76 and DCX Bass compliment each other wonderfully. If I ever wanted a mini board I thing it'd be all 4 + a tuner. Tuner > Cali76 > Dagger > DCX > Model Fet Perfection 👌
  18. They both sound excellent and definitely on the same ballpark as the Rusty Box. The bonus is that the boost is far more usable on these, the Rusty Box has such a big increase in level when you activate the boost its virtually unusable as anything other than an always on.
  19. Best purchase was the Quad Cortex by far. Worst was the Walrus Audio Canvas tuner. Great tuner but bought it just before the QC which rendered it mostly useless.
  20. Well the QC is back off my desk and on the board again. I love having the pedals to play with but definitely missed having the scenes etc configured. Wanna get into the QC looper too 👌 I may at some point bump up to a RB4.1-4.2 to make more space for pedals but for now this is a perfect balance of having my favourites and still being pretty compact. The Gojira clean amp is great for bass too 👌
  21. I'm really loving the Gojira Clean amp for bass at the moment. Had a play to see if I could dial in some nice tones without looping any physical pedals or captures in which I usually rely on a bit and very impressed. I'm definitely going to make more effort to utilise the models rather than reaching straight for a capture. It helped settle my mind to not bother with a Nano Cortex.
  22. I am very interested in how it handles lower gain for a little extra clank. The Cosmic Trigger and how in handles the boost does sound like a big improvement though.
  23. PS I'm curious if anyone has hands-on experience with the Rusty Box and the Moose Cosimic Trigger or the other Traynor/Bob Weston in a box type pedals?
  24. Got a Rusty Box for a good price. It was supposed to be the newer 9v version, but when it arrived, it was the older 24v centre positive one. Real pain to power and was about to return it but my mate wants it for his studio. I get to create lots of captures on the Quad Cortex before I hand it over, though, so win-win!
