  1. Also just generally getting to know assigns opens a lot of doors. Understanding how to assign parameters to a wave/saw can let you do some crazy stuff like these: for example using the Slicer and setting “pattern” to rapidly change back and forward over time results in the random stutter effect heard here.
  2. Another couple of things that caught me out: - no AIRD preamp in the chain = no cab sim/IR. If you’re using an external preamp or 4cm this is annoying. Only work around is to use an A/B divider, preamp block in B path and mix set to 100/0. - Stuff in an inactive path of a divider isn’t muted. If you have something noisy like an external Fuzz on a divider path, even if that path isn’t active you’ll still hear any noise. You can use an assign to drop the level on the mix block when that path is bypassed to fix it.
  3. Yeah I often set a foot switch to be a dedicated tuner switch when I don’t need all 3 to toggle fx, I hate the double press.
  4. Well I just got my hands on the HX One and gotta say I’m pretty impressed. The Regal is actually quite nice with some drives in the front of it and there are some really cool modulation fx built in. Still not 100% sure if it’s enough to kick my Boss GT1000core off which has a lot of signal routing options available but it’s definitely made the Stomp a far more compelling alternative. I only ever use the CORE for its noise gate, an occasional modulation/delay so this covers off all of that in a smaller and cheaper package. Gonna keep digging through the effects 🙌
  5. New HX One thanks to @Ander87 means reworking the board to make sure the signal chain is right. I definitely have a problem. The joys of working from home 🙌
  6. I do love the Fet but the Citadel sounds ace by all accounts. I was tempted to get one to see if it could get close to a Marshal VBA400 without the extra 40kg 😂
  7. Well NFP Special preamp should be here in a few days, gonna start making a new scratch plate for my p bass to accommodate the Turner multicoil and preamp. Then it’s just a case of sitting and bracing myself for the teabagging when the pickups arrive in the UK and I get the customs bill 😬
  8. Wanted to play with a simplified setup for a bit while waiting for a couple of new toys to get better acquainted with the Moose Sledge Hammer. TBH though I think I just have a problem.
  9. @krispn Ahh sorry dude. For what it's worth, given my track record, the chances are I'll be selling it in a week 😂
  10. I’ve seen the capos go a fair bit higher to be honest, especially with the month waiting time! That’s a bargain! I was just eying up the HX One earlier today 👀
  11. Treated myself to the Sledge Hammer from Moose, lives up to it’s name!!! Always wanted a RAT like drive, this gets that sound and much more, the finish is perfect too. I think this is one of the first clean blends in a drive that I’ve actually liked the sound of. (Yet to try the MBD though) Thanks to @danbowskill for enabling my dirt problem 🙌
  12. Everyone should have a Thumpinator on their board, they’re excellent!
  13. I got one of these in a trade and it’s instantly become my go to bass. Great construction and sound, way above its price bracket. GLWTS!
  14. Anyone played with making synth sounds with the GT1k? Saw the Ian Martin Allison HX presets on a video and figured it’d be fun to play with similar approaches. Not something I really have a reason to need aside from being a good learning experience.
  15. Would love to try the Sledgehammer and Cosmic Trigger from Moose, they sound excellent.
  16. Na, for that you’re looking at something like the boss switcher.
  17. When I’ve tried it I haven’t really notice a change either way in longevity of the strings. The one positive was that it made fresh DR strings bunch less abrasive and sliding easier. I don’t really bother with it but have some in a drawer somewhere.
  18. I think the HX One is a tough sell against the Stomp in terms of value for money. If I was in the market for a delay/reverb or something then it’s a pretty tempting proposition. Especially compared to some of the boutique stuff out there.
  19. One thing Helix has which stuff like the GT1000core is missing is a healthy community sharing patches etc. It’s worth having a look at some of the supporting stuff.
  20. Even if it was at end of life, it still sounds great and does more than enough. You could hold out and try to get a bargain if people start upgrading to a new shiny product. It still seems to be doing well, it could be a couple of years before a new version is out and even longer until a Stomp sized replacement is released. Or it could be tomorrow.
  21. I’d think of the HX as a utility pedal, you can pop it on your board and hook in your favourite dedicated pedals with the fx loops. Even if you don’t use many of the fx they’re there should you need it not to mention all the EQ options there. That’s how I use the Boss GTcore, I’ve come to terms that it’s mostly acting to normalise levels for different instruments, noise gate and EQ stuff. It’s there if I ever want a looper or to experiment with different effects. Having access to all those fx and options is an excellent way to curb GAS issues too. Not really an answer to your question but hopefully a useful counterpoint 😂
  22. Active basses can be quieter than passive basses, it completely depends on the preamp and pickups. Many active basses have passive pickups, it’s the preamp that is active. Stuff like EMG has active pickups and preamps. You can also use active basses and preamp pedals. Some people don’t like having many preamps/eqs in the signal chain as they might mess with the transparency of the tone etc or have multiple eqs interacting/fighting with each other. I’ve used all kinds of combos but I’ve landed on passive mid output pickups and a stellartone tone pot or similar. I’m very keen to try the Lusithand NFP preamp though which acts like a Wal. I actually have 2 preamps in my signal chain always on, the Jad freer Capo and EAE Model feT. That then runs into the front of my amp. This gets me a great basic tone which I can then layer grit to. Just do what sounds good and fits the context.
  23. No issues up until the OxEAE Fuzz which is kind of untested. The Halberd and Dagger are perfect, loads of snarl but never really looses the bottom. I push the mids quite a bit too which helps.
  24. I have a similar thing where I just seem to gravitate towards drives. I’d pick up modulation and time based stuff and never used it. Now I have the Boss GT1000core which can satisfy any modulation, delays, looping and reverbs etc then some preamps and drives that I love. While I don’t really use anything more exotic for band stuff it’s really great to have all those effects at your fingertips incase you do want to go off the beaten track and experiment.
  25. There are some great videos on YouTube that will help you with eq in the DAW. I wouldn’t rely on a pedal as you’ll more than likely need to tweak it as you introduce more instruments etc.
