Bass Big Muff
I might try one of these out in a shop to see how it compares to my Black Russian Muff. The one I've got now used to work great with my Pedulla (blended with LS-2) but ever since I got my Warwick (which has a much higher output) and boosted my Pedulla's signal to match it, it's been a little more temperamental. So I may try this out in shop to see how it works.
i like my black russian too, has a tone i cant easily find with my zoom fuzz, would an impedance buffer solve your problem? think Toasted was building them a while ago
it is the Padauk/Mahogany sandwich and is the most luvverly bass i own, which makes this problem all the worse!! yeah the new one is solid mahogany with a black stain and a maple/walnut neck, i much prefer the one i have, tis gorgeous!!
gorgeous indeed formerly mine gorgeous!!!

    ibanez K5
i would have thought that you should be able to get the same tones out of your K5 as i can from my SR 500. put you tone controls on their center dents and tweek it from there, cutting the mids completely will loose you in the mix. the K5 may be voiced slightly deeper than the SR 500 so you should be careful of the bass pot as it is quite strong. i like the natural sound of mine btu can tweek it to get loads of tones. feldy's tone is to loose the mid completely but he does tend to dissappear in the mix. mids are your friend.
i think the EQ in the SR500 is different to the system in the K5?
Glad to hear you're getting some success - it's really a trial and error thing and different situations will often require different settings, dependant on the acoustics and set-up of the situation. I'm a huge fan of Ibanez necks - the K5 does play amazingly, nearly as nicely as my SR20th . Seriously, the K5 is an awesome bass for the money. Do you have one of the older ones with the Padauk/Mahogany body or the newer one, with just Mahogany in the body?
If its the bass previously owned by Rayman then the body is the Padauk/Mahogany sandwich, is the newer one really Mahogany alone? lordy
  5. gah, i'll get in the queue

    Russian Muff

i've always found my black russian more wooly than out and out fuzzy, definitely not a lot of grit on offer, if you can, find a zoom uf-01 ultrafuzz, plenty of grit to be found in there, along with a load of other variations too!!
  7. you can have a try of my rig if you want, we're both in liverpool, my board is on the pedalboard page if you fancy a nosey
  8. how about in front of a valve o/d? its not a big fan of my bart ntbt equipped flea, or have i buggered me levels?

  11.
its soldered on both sides, i have the board out of the case in front of me and i dunno, i just felt like it was worth buying and seeing if i could do it
whaddaya think i was looking at? what you can see in the gap is throughflow from the solder work on the other side, like EBS_Freak said, a solder sucker will pull all that out if you melt it, theres a few people around who have done the work. It appears to be a common problem so aphex might be on board with replacements etc.
  12. how about a smoked chrome PG?
  13. just opened up my xciter, its only soldered on one side, the side that has easy access to it, the hardest part i can see is removing the internals from the chassis, getting the knobs back in place can be awkward. just a query, but if you werent confident about it why did you buy the pedal, knowing it was faulty, in the first place?
  14. Villex do one too i think

  17.
The first things I am considering are getting a Warwick chrome 2 piece 4 str bridge fitted (along with the required routings) and a set of strap locks fitted. Does anyone know if it is possible to buy the same kind as you get with the pricier Warwicks?
As regards the bridge, Thumper off of Finnbass.com did the same to his Streamer, I think Paul from Arrowhead Guitars did the work, I'll stand corrected of course. As for a new body, if you're happy with how it sounds etc, why change it?
