Not that I can think of, I usually go to Electro for my musical needs. Wizard Guitars is 5mins from my house, but they always rip you off - I have emailed them. And Reverb (old soundcontrol) closed early this month! They're up on the GAK site for £349, but I would love to try one before placing an order.
-
Well they're not listed on the Electro (Doncaster) website.
-
Does any one know where these are being stocked in yorkshire area? I'd love to try one out.
I've never seen one of these before, even on ebay, so couldn't even take a stab at the price. There are collectors about for some of the more obscure JapCrap so you might see some serious interest in an auction, but what price that would translate to is anyone's guess. The pricing on ebay can vary wildly and is a bit of a mystery at the best of times. I take it you've found the Westone site? http://www.westone.info/dynastybass.html
Yeah I've seen that site, I looked about a year ago or so I think, my bass spookily looks exactly the same as the one at the top, to the extent the black paint has faded off. I bought mine about 6 or 7 years ago for £90 from a guy who owed his band a lot of money

Hi, I own a Westone Dynasty, its red and shaped like a rocket ship! I have looked about on the net to see find more out about this bass, but can't find alot at all. I think it sounds pretty good, its very light weight and its fun to play and looks eermmmm unique? Here's a picture of it - plus my cat! Also does anyone have an idea how much these are worth? Its in decent condition, plays great, only has a few scratches etc on it and have the original case. I don't really want to sell it, just like to have in idea of how much it is worth. Cheers! (well the picture of mine will follow - just waiting for it to get sent from my phone to email account, so here is a picture i just found obv this is a guitar, mines the same bit with 4 strings )
Rob's away for now. Not sure if he'll be back. In the key of C major, the vii chord is Bm7b5. B Locrian is associated with this chord. Play C Locrian over a chord progression in C major and you'll sound like a loon.
Hiya thanks for that, I'd just read something on another webpage and it confused me slighty, but this has cleared it up! Excellent, thanks very much!

Sorry thought this was going to be a topic about the grindcore band Sore Throat!
Lesson 2 - Chords and Scales. Part One. BASIC CHORDSCALES These are the ten most important scales for building bass lines and improvisation. The rest of the scales we will look at in later lessons are variations of these 10 basic types. The first 7 scales are derived from a major key. The other three scales fit the other chord types not covered by the diatonic modes. I have shown these earlier, but will repeat them here for ease:- (Using C as the starting note in each example) 7). LOCRIAN - C Db Eb F Gb Ab Bb - structure 1 b2 b3 4 b5 b6 b7 Basic derived chords are the diminished triad and minor7b5. Usually associated with VIIm7b5 and is sometimes called the half-diminished. Tensions are 11 and b13 (avoid note is b2).
Hi, Just a quick (hopefully) question. I've been playing around in the Locrian in C and want to use the bass line, am I right in thinking that I can use this over a chord progression in key of C, or can I only use it over the diminished chord in that scale (which is B if I remember?) OR Would I use the Locrian in B and then its playable over a chord progression in C? I feel like I'm almost there with all this lesson - I learnt this sort of stuff when I was at school/music lessons about 17/15years ago and have subsequently forgotten it all! If I can get my head round this bit I think I will have cracked it - so any help will be much appreciated!!

rslaing - I tried to PM you but its not letting me! Any chance you can PM me, I'd like the supporting written materials for this lesson please. Thanks!
As It Is, When It Was sounds great - really good choice of song too. For some reason it made me think of the band Frasier Chorus. I love New Order and Joy Division but never found a band who seemed to share that love - not even when I lived in Sheffield! Well done getting on the tribute CD.
Thanks Doc B, glad you like it. We're going to be on Radio Sheffield in October doing a live session, i'm not sure if we're doing As it is, but I shall be posting the details up on here closer to the time. I think its Oct 1st and should be broadcast on-line too. -
No problem, I sometimes forget that not everyone regards gridiron as the finest sport on earth and the Denver Broncos the greatest team ever Karl Mecklenburg played for the Broncos for many years, its a name fondly remembered by fans. Here is your namesake
Nope sorry I can't agree on that one. The finest sport on earth, now that would be cricket!
Are you The Bedford Incident? If so nice job on As it is when it was, in the top three of my fav New Order songs. Spectacular band back in the day. I would love to have been on that you lucky buggers
yeah, I am in the Bedford Incident, although that picture is pretty old with the old bass player! Thanks very much, its our singers favourite New Order track, I love it on the chorus with the female vocals kick in -
Hmmm... Mecklenburg... well as a Denver Broncos fan you have got me on your side already
lol sorry I've no idea who the Denver Broncos are, I'm guessing Mecklenburg plays for them lol I got the name off an US army surplus jacket and used it as a 'stage name' in my last band, kinda stuck!

Not sure where this should go, its a recording, but also a release lol! My band - The Bedford Incident have been involved in this New Order Tribute Album "Ceremony", with 24hr Service Station record label. www.myspace.com/ceremonyanewordertribute www.newordertribute.com we have covered two New Order songs - "Ceremony" and "As It Is And When It Was" be interested to see what you guys think, it was supposed to be released in Oct/Nov but now looks like Feb to coincide with Wilson's Birthdate.
Hi Mecklenburg and welcome That's a fair old spread of music. Also, beware - much of this forum is powered by GAS
I go for things with a great bass lines, drumming and rhythm, and weird stuff lol. This place is almost 100% GAS powered, not very eco friendly!

Hi, About time I introduced myself as I've been posting on this site a fair bit recently, usual just lurk on forums! I play in The Bedford Incident - go have a listen, some of those tracks are from their old bass player, but you can hear me on "joyland" (if its up yet) "the girl who played with fire" and some others i can't remember! I've been playing bass for about 10 years now, since the age of 16 when I started in a cover bands with friends lol. I'm into quite a fair range of music - ranging from Doom and Black Metal, Hawkwind, The Flaming Lips and Parliament-Funkadelic! My gear is pretty limited, due to lack of space and my firm belief (and also a major gripe) in that quite often bass players with too much GAS, are pretty attroticous - a £1,000 bass and god knows how much power in your amp won't make you sound any better if you can't play in the 1st place! Current gear - MIM Jazz Bass - a good one, not a friday afternoon jobby! Westone Dynasty - not sure the year, early 80s - definetly from the look of it!! (if anyone knows anything about this bass get in touch!!) Ashdown and Calrsbro amplification Various array of FX pedals and boards and ever expanding and I like playing the Harmonica! I would like; Rickenbacker - not sure which yet - when I've got enough money for one anyway!
I have Wino's "puntuated Equilibrium" welded to the car CD player! Come to think of it, that's a pretty fat bass sound on there! I too love The Obsessed, Spirit Caravan, Saint Vitus, and The Hidden Hand. Come to think of it, love all the DOOM bands!
Agree on the Bass in Jug Full of Sun! Another Doom fan here, saw Saint Vitus at Hellfest this year, even met Dave Chandler whilst watching Orange Goblin! I didn't think I would ever see them play live, never mind meet some of the band!
-
I have a MIM Fretless Jazz, which I have had for about 8 or 9 years. Tried a few different ones out from different stores and could tell the difference between each - even between fretted versions, the one which I bought sounded good compared to more expensive models and felt almost as good to play. I'd like to think I got one of the higher quality MIM, rather than a Friday afternoon job!!
-
I've got a russian one and it sounds awesome. I use it with my MXR 100 phaser quite a lot, sounds like a space ship going off!
I have a qtron for sale at the moment its one of the original ones.
Is it in the sales section, how much are you selling it for? When were the original ones made, I've seen the micro one and another, which has quite a funky paint job - I guess thats the new one?
-
I had one of the old bent-steel Q-Trons, haven't tried the newer XO model. The old 24v one is a really good filter, although I could never get the down-sweep to sound very good. I haven't tried a Mutron III but I doubt any filter can hold a candle to it for that authentic funk quack, simply because it's THE filter that was used on all those records.
Yeah the only way to get THAT sound is to use that filter. Maybe when i've got money floating about I'll be able to afford one We've got a Mutron III plugin on Cubase which I can use, but I'd prefer the real thing. Think I'll just have to try a few out together, i'm not exactly sure what sound I want. I don't want to sound exactly like Bootsy, but something similar.
-
Hi, I'm looking for an evelope filter - basically I think i want to be Bootsy Collins! I can't find a Musitronics Mu-Tron III and if I did it would probably cost a fortune!!! I've read that the guy who made the Mu-Tron III had a hand in the design on the Q-Tron. Anyone played both of these, or either? Anyone recomend this, or perhaps there's something better out there? Cheers!
