To be fair, perhaps he likes the feel of playing on a Jazz pickup at the rear and this gave the same feel... looks odd though. And that defretting job is simply breathtaking...ly shit.

I have never changed the strings on my Steinberger Spirit... I have had it since I was 8 or 9 so thats 25/26 years without being changed :D... you can probably guess it doesn't get used very much!

Hearing loss/ ear protection on live gigs?
Tim2291 replied to Tradfusion's topic in General Discussion
I use the cheapish Alpine ones available in most music shops. They do muffle the sound but having worn that style since I started gigging at 13 (20 years ago 😵) i've got used to them now and can't gig without them! Whilst the ACS plugs will without a doubt be far superior, the trade off in cost is a no brainer for me! The ones I use protect my hearing and have done through years of heavy metal touring bands, function bands and pub gigs without any issue! -
According to Bartolinis diagram, the battery negative should be connected to the ring and the ground to the sleeve, this is the opposite of what I had so I have switched them over which will hopefully solve the issue...

Hoping someone can help, I replaced the neutrik jack plug on my ibanez btb recently. Being lazy, I took a wire off at a time and replaced it on the new one without checking... guessing they changed the pin layout 🤣, the bass works but is constantly live so the batteries drain. I have a feeling I have the ground and the tip the wrong way round. Can anyone confirm if it would still make noise if this was the case? Also, if anyone has a wiring diagram for an ibanez btb 1205e with the bartolini pickups and preamp at all they could share I'd really appreciate it!

I am reasonably sure it's deliberately designed like this.

This thing is hideously ugly and completely unsuitable for any gig ever... so I want it to be my main bass! Tbf, being ESP custom shop it is probably built really solidly! -
This is similar to how I tuned my 5 string when I was touring with a metal band... we were a semi tone lower, my E string was a B and the B string became an F# (F#, B, F#, B, E). When I used the lowest string below 5th fret I usually doubled up with the octave above so the note had a bit of clarity whilst also causing the crowd to empty their bowels.

Left in a shed... such a shame because those RBX270 basses are great and apparently the purple sparkly finish is quite uncommon! -

I personally love the random hole in the middle of the headstock, the bridge is also a masterpiece of engineering! -

So I contacted the seller on this one and asked for more details, apparently it shows it has power and the fan kicks in. It did sell on ebay but I then got another message from them... Apparently they gave the money back to the winning bidder (£25 and not me) as they wanted to get more than £50 for it... I offered them £15 😆 working examples are selling for around £60 so no way this is worth anywhere near that not working!

Completely agree, it isn't a difference in sound that I'm concerned about, more the versatility and ease of dialling in a sound I want from the jazz and changing that sound quickly and easily as needed. The band I play in plays things from 50's rock and roll, some jazz and then modern pop so versatility of tone is key! The Jazz is not going to sound like the BTB, but I don't want it to, if I want the BTB tone, i'll use that ! If I can get the output levels similar and then have the versatility to change the tone more without having to resort to pedals, or changing amp settings (usually very flat, let the bass do the talking) then it would be perfect!

Thank you both, it's interesting to see both sides of the argument! As @gjones says, it adds a lot of versatility with the Jazz and I think that's the main thing I miss when I switch from my BTB, I go from having 3 band EQ with mid sweep on hand to a treble pot and pickup volumes on the Jazz. Definitely less versatile! @chris_b I may play the waiting game until a second hand one comes up nearby and also look at changing the pickups over to a decent set or Barts/Nordstrand with the funds I have put by!

I'm debating getting a John East J Retro pre amp for my Mexican Jazz bass... I mainly play a 5 String Ibanez BTB (one of the old "prestige" models with Barts and 3 band EQ) which has a super modern tone but also very high output. I'm looking at making it simpler to switch to the jazz bass if I need to (string snapped, dead battery any other live quirk) without issue. Are they worth it? I'd love to know what everyone thinks!

That is the problem tbh, I'm trying to sell an Ashdown 410 for pretty much whatever I can get for it... nobody seems to want something that size at the moment! Will there be a renaissance one day soon and everyone will switch back to heavy gear? Personally whilst the amp sims etc are great... I still prefer the trouser flapping of a proper amp. Could be a fun project to fix this Trace Elliott though, not a good financial decision but could be interesting haha
