  1. I'm sure the quality is great, but realistically looking at the market of new basses right now. The Ric is £5500, and lets be fair, limits the user on the gigs they can play. An american Jazz bass is around £2000 which is still far too much for such a standard instrument but that would be useable on 90% of gigs, and it doesn't look like a child drew it for their parent to stick on their fridge!
  2. Looking for suggestions for songs to play on a Halloween gig, the venue is having a fancy dress competition going. So far I have, Ghostbusters Time Warp Monster Mash Werewolves of London Any additional suggestions would be appreciated!
  3. I'm not gonna make any friends saying this... but Rickenbackers are truly hideous! At a retail price of £5499 for this 90th anniversary 4005XC I would be getting a doctor to check for signs of insanity if I saw someone buy one!
  4. It depends on the gig, but why not cover all bases? Write out chord charts with structure, add notation/tab(dirty word i'm sure) for any parts that need to be definitive. If you're playing covers, have the set on a spotify playlist you can share with the dep. Better to over prepare for the dep so that they have everything they may need! Plus on a side note, it will help you to learn the parts more in depth if you chart and write them out! That being said, last time I had a dep I did nothing for them at all!
  5. Learn how to structure practice, and then... Practice, practice, practice and then practice some more! Don't do things because they're "cool" or "uncool". Practice again, and then when you're done practicing... practice some more. Take risks. Surround yourself with people who are better than you! Practice again.
  6. Most other musicians and producers get confused and feel threatened if the bassist doesn't bring a Fender jazz or p bass. I literally have a Mexican jazz bass I take every time I play. People are impressed I have it... It then stays on its stand and I play my 18v active ibanez on everything because its fsr more verstile 😂😅
  7. Tbf, that's still 40lbs lighter than the rbx cab! About the same as what I'm using now! Thank you Ill keep an eye out for a second hand one! Be nice to be able to use the bi amp in the head again!
  8. Thanks guys, the defretting could have been a bit cleaner, but i'm not planning on selling it so does the job for me! Really pleased with the paint, this was the first guitar I've ever sprayed!
  9. Not a top spec BB but I got a BBN5 for a "cheapish" bass to use for college, as you can imagine it was beaten around and trashed, I think at one point we tried to "relic" it by dragging it behind a car! It then sat on a stand for about 8 years unused. Finally decided to do something with it so completely stripped it back to bare wood, resprayed in lake placid blue with satin top coat and defretted it! Still needs some adjustment and maybe even a PU swap but its actually being used on occasion now!
  10. I am terrible with faces to be honest but we could well have met before! If so good to see you again, if not good to meet you
  11. Hey! I've played bass for 20 years now(since I was 11) and saxophone for 3 years before that, went to music college and ended up touring professionally with a heavy metal band. Thought I fell out of love with playing turns out I just don't actually like heavy metal as much as I thought I did back then, I was an impressionable 18 year old youngest sibling! Now play in functions/covers and gig as much as possible, could always do more though... . Amp GK 700RB2 - Sounds awesome and never had a single issues. GK RBX 410 (currently in need of surgery) Ashdown Mag 410 (bought temporarily, kept due to weight) Rack Tuner Rack Compressor built in Colour changing lights in the back because why not! Basses Ibanez 1205QM - with Bartolini P/Us and pre amp Fender MIM Jazz (2004 I think) Ibanez BTB 405QM (high C string rather than low B) Yamaha BB 5 string converted to fretless Yamaha RBX 270 (first bass) Michael Kelly Dragonfly Acoustic Steinberger Spirit 80's Aria Explorer that is about to undergo mods to make it even more ridiculous... I'm thinking built in strobe light, crackle paint and maybe an attachment for a smoke machine!
  12. How heavy is the Neo cab? I have an RBX410 that needs replacement drivers (got damp and are now farting). I've been putting it off for years because of the weight, its nearly 10 kg heavier than the Ashdown 410 i'm using as the temporary replacement!
  13. Gigged the GK 700rb2 for the last 10 years without any issue. I do have a GK RBX 410 cab but 3 of the cones got damp and now sound horrible so need replacing. Bought the Ashdown cab "temporarily" but not gonna lie, quite like how much less it weighs! Built in rack tuner and compressor, compressor mainly for the Jazz bass (backup) as the 5 string ibanez has a really balanced output from the Bartolini preamp!
  14. If the band leader can't compensate for a slightly weaker signal from one of the instruments then why is he in charge of the sound? You set your sound on the HX stomp, he is then responsible for the level, if it needs more, he just needs to boost it. Sounds like he isn't changing any settings between different gigs which is worrying, every room is different! Bassists tend to get the blame a lot for their volume, I've had guitarists who have too much bottom end, keyboard players who aren't used to full band situations so add in all the lows... it's always the bassists fault though!
