Why does all the weird stuff that would be fun to own come up for sale right at the wrong times

This Royal Mail strike is really something....

You both seem to be under the misconception that I have a problem with the postman himself, I don't, the dude is merely doing the job he is told to by his superiors. I have a problem with the management of the company who could relieve the pressures in other areas of their business. If they changed the current structure and move employees around to other departments, jobs would be protected, day to day running would be smoother and staff would probably be less burnt out than they are. Paying them more is not going to solve the fundamental problems that they have. Also to answer the question earlier about watching him... my office overlooks the car park where he waits so it's pretty hard to miss... and the comment about posting on here... I am able to take breaks whilst at work ;)! -

I do... I've spoken to him about it, he has one more collection after us and then is finished for the day. -
I don't know much about Wals, but at the time that may well have been a good price for it!

I don't think I could bring myself to part with my first! I don't ever gig it, and as yours did, it sounds OK but not the best BUT, it is one of the easiest playing basses I own so it gets picked up regularly to play around with. I am tempted to replace the pickups and see if that makes it more giggable tone wise!
-
That makes a lot of sense, I don't have a massively vast collection of basses, and I have made sure that all of them do things slightly differently, so I have my main bass that I use at every gig, I have a Fender Jazz that is used as a backup, and then others have been converted to fretless, changed to have a high C rather than low B or strung with flats so that it gives a completely different sound/feel!
-
See, I stopped liking my BBN5, so it sat on its stand for years... I then got bored of looking at it so removed all the frets, resprayed it and now have a great sounding and looking fretless that I play all the time! As above, needing money is a very different situation to what I am talking about here and I am very lucky to have never been in that position!
-
OUCH!!! And this is why I have a fear of selling gear! What if one of my basses suddenly becomes collectable? I mean I doubt an entry level Yamaha RBX270 is going to... but then again it is in the sparkly purple finish that is now apparently rare!
-
That one is a very different situation and of course would make it an easy decision! I'm talking about selling gear to pay for other gear, never been able to do it at all! I still own all the basses I have bought or been bought!

Nobody wants to see anybody losing their jobs! My comment was more pointing out the fact that there are people within the structure who a clearly using their time inefficiently, that time could be put to better use helping in the other areas of the business reducing the workload on their burnt out colleagues! -
How does anyone do it? I was thinking the other day that I could sell a few and replace them... then I looked at them and thought, nah can't sell that one, or that one, or that one... Just can't bring myself to part with any of mine!

On the flip side, I keep reading about them being overworked etc, we have a postman collect the mail from work everyday. His allotted collection time is 4pm, I've yet to see him arrive after 3.30pm! He sits in his van playing on his phone for at least half an hour before collecting the post. Hard to find sympathy for those like him who clearly are not overworked in any way. I do appreciate that he could be a small minority but still isn't great for the image they are trying to portray! -
@Chopthebasshas there been any more progress on this one? Looks amazing so far!

OP - "Hello there"... General Kenobi Couldn't resist! Welcome haha!

Played my final gig before paternity leave this weekend. Very odd feeling to not have any gigs for the next couple of months! Gig was great, venue was packed which was brilliant :). Haven't had more than a few weeks off of gigging since I was about 16 so this will be a very very strange time for me!

There must be a bass in it for £400?

Same dude is trying to sell a few Harley Bentons... some for over £1000! -
I wonder how much the Christine McVie bits shot up in recent days!
-
Ah, this is the age old question though, would it have saved you any money or would you have actually ended up with something else? I would argue that your years of experimenting with other instruments developed your taste to the USA Standard, whereas if you had started with the USA Standard your tastes may have developed to a different instrument!
-
The value is in their marketing team...
-
If you won it for £10 though you could first of all feel warm and fuzzy from giving to charity, and then you could use the guitar as a Christmas gift... or more likely, sell it on for profit!
-
Theres a lot of people who think you "need" a Fender, usually they are wrong. Fender were the first, and they have always had a fantastic marketing team who get the instruments into the hands of every other famous bassist. Are they great instruments? Of course they are. Are they better than other brands? Absolutely not. A lot of musicians/producers/sound engineers have a very narrow view of the bass guitar and Fender is basically all they know and are then very bias towards them because they have used them before. If you don't want a Fender and have no reason (tribute band, pressure from producers etc) to buy one, then just get what bass you enjoy playing!
-
In that case... what are you waiting for! My wife is the same usually, but we have a baby due in January so I've had to reign in the impulse buying... But I do think the baby needs a short scale bass!
-
Looks like the job I did on removing the frets from my cheapo Yamaha when I converted it to fretless... I used a razor blade and a chisel to get them out... did similar damage to this but i'd wrecked the resale value by respraying it and defretting it anyway!
-
But... microphone dude has buy one get one free on coloured SM58 grills for anyone wanting their mic's to look a little different! https://microphonedude.com/

TBH, this is just the place to come when you want encouragement to buy something you don't really need (but also totally need and can't live without honest) and don't want to talk to your partner first as you know they will probably say no!
