  1. The new bands first outing from the rehearsal studio was this Tuesday just gone. I'm still very much a novice bassist, this beng my second attempt at playing live. Played four songs at an open mic session at the Junction in Rainford, just north of St Helens, Merseyside. You Really Got Me, Fortunate Son, Black Night, and Paranoid on my trusty 5 string Harley Benton. Great live music pub. Allows us to slowly get used to the transition from Rehearsal to Live!
  2. I could walk there! Had no idea they did gigs.
  3. I had a response from the company. Things are progressing still. He has partnered with another company to do the collection of parts and assembly. Looks like the V3 may be off the shelf, or minor assembly only.
  4. I was thinking about trying to source the parts and building them up for a small fee, but looks like the third version does most of that for you. I'll still give them a poke for costs soon though.
  5. Yeah, there is a third version in the works that is to be released soon according to the news section.
  6. Morning All, Curious to hear if anyone has used the GuitarML software and Pi Stomp boxes with bass? I'm guessing noise may be an issue with accurately detecting low frequencies but other than that don't see a huge amount of hits on the GuitarML term, including none on this forum. Not done any research past finding the following links so far. https://guitarml.com/ https://www.treefallsound.com/
  7. I realise this bass is almost a carbon copy of a discontinued Sandberg but I'm guessing Sandberg hasn't made much fuss about being copied, or did they need to get alsorts of licences from Fender? My old Squire Jazz Vintage Modified against the Harley Benton MJ-5MP
  8. An interesting thought that. You could monitor input and output signals to ensure the amp is scaling the signal equally for all - or more precisely many descrete - frequencies, but as soon as you chuck that into a cabinet you're at the mercy of the responce of the cones and the behaviour of any cross overs. I guess you could easily loose a lifetime to finding a monitor grade amp and speaker setup!
  9. Thanks all. Refreshing to know I wasn't barking up the wrong tree. Still lost when it comes to setting up the simulated pedals though. Is there any good resources/books on this or just seach for demos of each stomp box my effect unit emulates?
  10. Morning! I'm using Vic Firth drum isolation headphones as hearing protection and monitors. I'm finding them not very comforatble and a bit bass heavy. Any other recomendations? Thanks.
  11. Thanks, I appreciate your input, but I don't think I did a very good job at raising my question there. Let me have another go. Is there any difference in end result between setting the bass dials neutral and adjusting EQ on the board, and changing the dials on the bass? I appreciate that any tone shaping results in a partial loss of the original tone and tones manipulated earlier in a signal chain can't be corrected back to faithfully recover the original tone. When dials are set at noon what makes a bad preamp? Excessive noise would be an obvious. Is it just an excessive colouring of the pure tone? I'm hesitant from saying acoustic tone as I don't want to imply double bass as we do have more trebble content than a typical double bass. I've severe asymetric hearing loss and experience occasional changes on my good side too. My hearing is likely is easily saturated on stage even with hearing protection. When playing I'm often reduced to hearing my timing, and if I've hit the right note or not. I aim to get my tone as locked in as possible in my home environment coming out of my Zoom B3n multi effects processor. On stage adjustments will be predominantly correcting for the effects of the playing environment, often guided by others. As my playing and EQing/effects voodoo develops I'll invest in a more recent multi effects system. For the time being I'm learning the ropes with the B3n. Any recomendations for good reads on signal chain work to help me hit the ground running would be welcomed!
  12. Evening all, I've hot a bass with on board preamp with bass and trebble boost/cut. While I could add in a fixed frequency mids adjust, or swap the preamp out for one with a mid and mid frequency adjust. But I just thought is it really worth the hassle when I can start an effects chain on the Zoom B3n with a seven band eq? Thanks!
  13. Started to consider this, but after ten or twenty minutes of screwing around with dials I realise I'm lost! I've lost a load of my hearing on my right side, and due to being nervous about loosing a similar amount on the left I've set out to try to make this easier for myself. I've ditched the boss pedals and gone for a Zoom B3n and try to get my sounds great out of my headphones or Laney 410 115 stack. I've now found my drum isolation headphones (I use them in place of ear plugs at rehearsals) are very bassey, and I suspect at least the laney head amp is colouring the sound. The different Ashdown Combo 410 at the rehearsal room for sure seems to be weak on mid mids upwards. Perhaps I just need to move it way back from me to get the right angle from the cones centre line for mids and trebble. My next line of attack is to do a little more searching on what input tones work well for specific effects such as overdrive. Meanwhile my fingerstyle needs help but I'll start another post for that!
  14. Tried my luck and won out. just drove over to the local DHL depot and said it was out for delivery tomorrow and would lile to pick it up now. I can't fault it with just tuning. Leaving it be in my house for a while before looking at checking intonation or any further setup checks. Playable out of the box. Think my fingerstyle needs a little neatening as I seem to whack the string on the pickup from time to time, which needless to say doesn't sound great! Oh, and the talk of this girl's weight is not understated. At 5.6kg more a shot putter than marathon runner!
  15. Typical. Made it through customs at ~2330 last night. Today being the only day this week I couldn't work from anywhere! Redirected to pickup point, so looks like it'll be tomorrow now.
  16. Snap! WANNA PLAY WITH NEW TOY! 😄
  17. Balls! the 3-4 working days or 5-6 total currently listed on their website appears to be aspirational! With the way the UK side tracking only starts after DHL/UKMail pick up from our side of the boarder it would be very easy for DHL to pick up parcels in bulk without scanning them, and then scan in a day or so later when they are ready to send the parcel on.
  18. What sort of drlivery time are folks seeing frim EU / Thomann at the moment? Last time I ordered it was seven days, was hoping for a little quicker to tty and get settled on the new bass before rehearsal on Sunday! Finally pulled the trigger last Friday on my five string Harley Benton MJ-5MN. Alas my original budget of <£400 was slashed by circumstance and another hobby nibbling a little off the side too. I appreciate it's heavy, but reports seem to suggest it is in the same ball park as my previous Squier VM 4 string at 4.7kg or 10lbs 5oz. Certainly looking forward to it. If not settled on the tone it will be a tough call between replacing one of the pots with a stacked pot inorder to enable the mid control (on the preamp, just not wired/fitted) or go straight to a three band Artec preamp unit.
  19. Same as above on a webpage: https://www.prosoundweb.com/the-seven-bad-system-dwarfs/ Edit: Slight correction, that maybe the original source.
  20. Apologies, thought you were just telling to rumage in charity shops! 😄 That does look a good shout. Having said that I just remembered I have an old digital SLR with a few accessories to flog on ebay which may help me make the diference up and get the five string I had my eye on, so this may get shelved for a while!
  21. I'm looking for a sub £100 spend, most likely second hand. The tinkering is part of the fun for me here. Not asking for a good PBass that you'd be happy with, just a list of mass produced entry level basses that were balanced well with half decent bodys and necks. Thanks.
  22. Mornin' all! I've got a francenstien of a PBass that I've cobbled together and while I like the tone and behaviour of the electrics it has cronic neck dive. As a temporary measure I'm tempted to route out a pocket and fill it with weight, but longer term I'd like to swap the hardaware and electronics onto a more balanced neck and body. I am looking for pbasses that are really common and cheap but suffer cheap hardware and electrics. Do the squier affinity basses bslance well? Would the PBass kit from Thomann be a good pick or does that also suffer neck dive? Others to look out for? Thanks!
  23. Weight: 4.7kg or 10lbs 5oz. I'll add this hard case. Not the idea size for the bass. It is standard 34" scale, just lioks tiddy in this case! Better than none for transit! I believe it was an Aria Pro II case. I never owned that, aquiredthe case from a closing down music store.
  24. Dropped to £200. I'll leave it at this (save a bump or two) for upto two weeks before I list it on ebay. Thanks for looking.
