UK based luthiers for a custom body?
woodyratm replied to minty fresh death's topic in General Discussion
Ou7shined aka Osprey Guitars. Got my custom looking amazing. The attention to detail is amazing. -
We need a Cog porn thread.

This should be the last version of this board... I've got a few new items on the horizon (Sansamp vt deluxe, COG custom super fuzz, Deep Impact - providing they continue the recent trend!, and Bass Whammy when it's out). Thinking about adding a 2nd octave too (again - probs COG). So be building onto the large board again soon.
Finished my latest board having just received my new COG Knightfall & pedal interface from Tom. The board is a modified SwanFlight case - extra under-board bracing and the standard naff carpet covering replaced with proper velcro (basically, how they should be supplied in my opinion) The interface cleans up the board quite a bit and also has a DI feed from the Sansamp if needed. Not got round to setting up the Knighfall at gig volume yet but will have a better idea after the next rehearsal later this week.
Saw this on FB earlier. Very nice cabling and a great board to boot!

Good plan. We got my old one a cowbell on his 21st.
I'd say make sure you try one before you do anything rash. I had convinced myself that a Combustion was for me, until I tried one in the Gallery. I've got quite small hands, made worse by damage from a bike accident, and the gaps below the 5th fret on the E and B were just too uncomfortable.
Yeah defo think i'll play before jumping head first. Though my hands are massive, just a fan of thin necks
Pain in the arse for two reasons - fixed cable. And AAAs!! Still, for the money, you can't really complain. I'm umming and arring about whether it will be a good way of keyboards to the PA...
Also true. If you're like me, and get wrapped up in cables but dont move 50 miles away - it's not bad!
Has anyone seen this? http://www.gak.co.uk...CFTDMtAod8x4ApA The price seems almost too good to be true. Doubt I'll be shedding my x2 any time soon, but I do like to keep abreast of these things!
I've got one. Decent little unit - pain the arse having a built in cable. Seem to get pretty decent range out of it too!
There is an ABZ5 in the classifieds...
Drooool. How chunky are the necks?

Cheers guys! My other basses are 34" 4 stringers, strangley tempted my a 5 string What happens regarding strings? I imagine standard strings wouldn't work?
-
Sup guys, I'm gassing for a dingwall bass just now. They look amazingly pretty and are interesting me pretty heavily! Only thing; concerned by the fanned fret system. Whats it like? How is reaching the high frets? Any basschatters in Scotland with one i could have a play on? Possibly long shot but hey - dont ask, dont get! I'm headed to london in May so was going to try and hit bass direct then, also headed to Moffat in March so with any luck, one will be there!

Hey guys, Got this a while ago with the aim of learning to play fretless. Didnt really work so its been sat in the gigbag for a while. So be aswell letting someone else have a go! Its the 5 string version which is fretless. Bit strange to see and play (but you get used to it!) and it sounds pretty decent on its own (pretty like an upright i'd say?) - i loved putting fuzz through it. Great fun! I haven't seen many in the UK so wasnt sure about price so i've based on ebay costs (from states - postage/customs). As mentioned - has gigbag and the components for sitting or strap use Payment by paypal gift//bank transfer - thanks!

I use George L's and lava. Both pretty expensive but the george's are easier to make in a hurry!
Cheers man With the routing they still have an order, so eg. the OC2 is in the first slot, so will be first in the chain when it's on with any others... I think I'm toying with popping the DeviEver Ruiner back on, but at the mo, the B3K and the Rat King kinda have most of my dirty sounds covered. If you were adding a fuzz, what would you suggest, I'll go youtube some demos
hah well thats like asking how long a piece of string is! I like the IE Oxide for synthy fuzz, I do have COG unit due which which is a mix of rat and muff. What type of music are you playing?
-
I'm in the middle of a serious pedalboard tidy/rethink/overhaul at the mo. Made some adjustments so I could hide all plugs, wireless receiver and power, cut the plug off my extension lead so it's a female kettle type end now, and have taken a lot of stuff off to have a think what I want/need on there... Here's a before pic - And here's a new work in progress pic, added in the Rat King and a Moen GEC9 programmable switcher - What are peoples thoughts on pedal order and what would I benefit from adding?
Ohhhh I like both the before and after. Looks very nice. Doesn't the GEC9 mean you dont really need to worry about pedal order? I've never used a routing system so could be barking up the wrong tree! I'd probs look at some fuzz if that would work for your sound?
You've got a HPF on there!? That's quite interesting, what's the idea behind that? Mine just has the two LPFs, one for the distortion and the other for clean. I bet that Tarkin/TK combination will sound incredible! Have you got any special stacking options on there? It's quite a ridiculous thing with COG, I find myself getting very excited about other people's builds!
Hah well in theory - after much discussion with Tom - It should give me the ability to have a more nasal fuzz/distortion sound on the TK. Set to give TK or GT or blended orrrr i can also attach separate jacks and create chaos by running different chains right into each section (eg I could have pedal A going to the tarkin and pedal B to the TK or go A, B, Cog and get the full party). It will also have a 3rd input, so mega compressed signal or octaved or something. With cyborg ninja from metal gear solid as artwork (so single LED on the ninja's mask to show which mode is on). I freaking love Tom. It's amazing to get excited about Custom units, after being so disappointed a few months ago with another builder. To actually quote Tom - "This pedal will kill people" That's what I'm aiming for
Totally agree! I think it's the fact that he puts serious time into testing, and it helps that he's a bass player too! I had him put a socket in for the op amp on my TK-421 so I can swap them around, but there's just something about the inherent tone that I love. I've had the clean blend and LPF put in, but find I'm actually using it more full on. It certainly holds the low end well enough! I've got a Darklighter on the other side, running at 18v. I originally intended for it to replace my mosfet Bassdrive, but I much prefer its tone. Not tried a Knightfall yet, but I'm sure I will at some point! ...
This is driving me mad! I have a unit with the TK-421-X and Grand Tarkin coming and all this positive feedback makes me want it NAOW! PS the TK will also have the LPF and HPF on mine too!
-
Tom is amazing. I've got a super fuzz coming. To say the least i'm excited!
-
I really like the sound of that. Sounds like I could actually use it, instead of y'know - make noises. Which I'll still do regardless.

Sold my Genz Shuttle to Steve. Great comms and paid instantly. No worries at all!

That was unexpected. Thanks for posting!
