1.
After a recent influx of money from selling things, I finally have some to spend on effects. I'm intending to go into dubstep, particularly. Now, I want to know exactly what effects I should be getting. Here's what I've figured out so far: Envelope Filter (I'm going to use the Source Audio BEF Pro w/ Hot Hand) Compressor (This will allow me to use the BEF Pro more effectively; to manipulate the filter I must use my playing hand, so I'll have to play with hammer-ons. The compressor will bring those up to the same level as my normal playing, and not make my normal playing incredibly loud. However, I have no idea what exact pedal to use for this.. any suggestions? I'm thinking about using the Boss CS-2) Octave (Boss OC-2, for sub-bass) Distortion (Probably the WMD Geiger Counter, but I don't know for sure) So two things: 1. Would that work well? 2. Can someone recommend a compressor and a distortion for what I want? Thanks in advance.
BEF is ace. It's not as easy as it looks! It takes a fair amount of practice to get the wobbles well.
All your suggestions look and sound great. Geiger Counter is massively versatile for the music you re looking at, but a good gated fuzz will get you a large array of the tones also (Mammoth, Mastotron, Brown Dog etc...). Have you played with the BEF & Hot hand much already? It's VERY different to using an expression with a Low Pass Filter like the IE Xero or the Moog LPF. If you haven't experienced it yet I'd suggest trying to try both options before investing. Neither are better for this genre of music - just very different. I would suggest looking at the 'Live Dubstep' & The 'Drum N Bass/Dubstep' threads as many of your questions will likely already of been answered. As for compressor... while most will do the trick, I find a multi-band is quite important for this kind of music so it can keep those resonant high peaks in check without reducing the volume of the sub bass etc... I use a TC Nova Dynamics but have also used the EBS Multicomp to great effect. +1 - get a xenograph and exp pedal for even more fun.

Do you really need a compressor? I've not used a Hot Hand with my bef, but can't really see how it would benefit as it tracks really well. I use a joyo dynamic compressor at the start of my signal chain (very cheap on ebay) purely to improve the tracking of my behringer bsy600 synth pedal. Without wanting to sound rude though, if you need it to even out your hammer ons etc then just do some more practice and save the cash! You may not need to use hammer ons either, slides should work fine. Check out some of Nathan Navarro's stuff and also read through the threads that the mighty Shep has posted above. I'm told that the Source Audio multiwave bass distortion goes very well with the BEF....... Happy Wubbing!
Was going to suggest the joyo. Seems highly thought of. I use the oxide and SA MWD. Sounds brilliant! And works great for FOXDIE dubstep moments!
 2.
Robot bass player at the wrong gig.
who some poor girl accidently had sex with. The robot said it was someone important in the band.
 3. These are suberb cabs. I really regret selling mine. I hate living in a top floor flat.
 4. Had a practice tonight. Will miss this stuff but I can get by Also tried the dubscope. Works its just a pedal which needs a lot of time to play around with. Like the hot hand; it just takes some playing.
 5. Hopefully Max doesn't mind me using his photo. His skills are greater than mine. Also bump for the rest. As long as I have my fuzz and filters i'm happy enough. Guess there's no point in keeping pedals I don't use often.
 6.
Do you have any pics of the loop pedal?
Hopefully this works.... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/71973-sfx-builds-in-progress/page__view__findpost__p__1205982 Is here
 7. DHA + XXL sold pending. Would probs sell the deep impact now...
 8.
PM'd regarding the DHA.
replied mate
 9.
Sorry to hear about your situation, but if you decide to sell your Oxide I will gladly take it off your hands.
Will let you know mate. It may well end going soon too. :/
 10. Hey guys, I've severely buggered up last month and the majority of this months pay was fixing that... so now this month looks like a write off. One of these will may be a painful one. 1) Death By Audio Total Sonic Annihilation - Bought this maybe 1 month ago? If that... used once - doesn't give me a sound I can use with my pedals. - £60 2) Tech 21 XXL Warp Pedal (Bass Edition) - Again 1 month ago. I've stepped on it like once. - £40 - sold pending 3) CoPilot FX Dubscope - I've never even used this since buying it from Talkbass (from a dude in the states) - £80 4) DHA VT1 (I think?) bass with DI/EQ/Headphone etc. I've never tried this with the proper power supply - so it buzzes like a bitch just now. Used maybe once (found it buzzed on my supply and never used again). - £55 - sold pending 5) Akai Deep Impact - I have the box somewhere...Brilliant synth bass pedal which i love to bits. It will destroy me to need to sell this but I think needs must.. - £500 - Sold! 6) SFX Loop thing. - 2 seperate loops - both with independant volume controls, one of the channels has a blend control. I used it for my synth/fuzz channel. Also has a none latching footswitch for other uses. I used it as a down control for the Deep Impact. Was custom built by Max for me. £160 7) SFX Blue Dragon - brilliant clean boost. - Modded with a loop which only activates when the pedal is off (no boost). I put my fuzz pedals into it. - £55 - sold pending 8) pedaltrain pro with sc - £135 With any luck i'll be able to sort myself out financially and not need to do anything more drastic.... Prices include shipping.
 11.
the price seems to be high because its got no real competition? it seems like a fairly limited but effective digital synth, with very good tracking (from what i hear). in contrast the keyboard synth world is currently full of great true analog synths that would exterminate the DI in terms of fat bass sound! (and price!) if only they could be played by the bass
MIDI? I used to use a midi controller on my bass to control a Novation Bass Station. Deep Impact is much easier to use.
 12.
Seriously though, welcome to the forum, great amp.
What he said
 13.
hey sorry no swap, trying to clear space in the studio and already have a huge range of bass gear, am willing to lower the price for a good home.
£30 and I'll even let it sleep in bed with me! Hows that for a good home
 14.
Even if it does sit in a case unused for years, £30 for a reliable backup solution, you can't complain. Liam
Or in my case - free. I love basschat
 15. Boss oc2 + iron ether oxide. Works well.
 16.
Behringer BDI21 if you want to add a bit of warmth. That's what i bought mine for and i find it works really well. Liam
Was gonna suggest this too. I have one I'm not using. Just sits in my case, if ever i need it.
 17. also Ou7shined could do it.
 18.
TBH I think the bubble will burst pretty soon and you'll be able to pick one up for more sensible money, they can't be stuck at those inflated prices forever.
Hmm Should sell mine soon heh
 19.
Cool! Glad you like. I'll give you the Taylor one. It's in the pipeline. The rest are a secret
Looking forward to the next ones!
 20.
How about lifting your Midget up (if its on the floor)
hah! I'd get a second cab first - then get another head as folk have said. Good luck!

 22.
Watch? There are YouTube bids etc included but they are written articles... This would imply you have not yet read the 2 I have published and that means you are of my Christmas card list!!! ;-) lol. Hints... Er.... Maybe...
I shall read them in bed did I see somewhere something about Taylor from IE doing an interview with ya? That would be tasty!
