Compressed before the Aphex.

Headphone works very well (used it as a silent practise box), and yes it runs at the same time as the output, as you can see they have separate level controls too. I'm not very good on describing tones, but with the EQ on flat and the gain quite low, there is understandably a lot of tube 'character' there. Pushing the gain up to just before distortion yields the 'fatness' that everyone seeks, and cranking the gain even further gives you some of the smoothest overdrive you can imagine.
I only had the VT1-Std-Bass, but this definitely fits the description of when I used it with my Thunderbird. Not a bad pedal for passive basses. Didn't do anything for me with my active Spector though, even after much tweaking. Yes it was a later VT1 with the I/P pad, before anyone asks.
+1! Used it (DHA) with my Spector Legend 5 and it just didn't sound right. Tried it with a friends Jazz bass and it sounded oh so sweet!

Had this sat in its box for a month now (blasphemous, I know) but I need to sell it on. I wrote a review for this baby, and I sang it's praises, but as I also mentioned, it's not quite fitting in with the band as I'd hoped. Perfect condition, only used for a couple of hours at my house and at one band practise, so this thing is mint, perfect working condition. Comes with a 12v regulated power supply (supplied by DHA), which is also a gem as it includes 8 different adaptors so could be used round the house. £110 shipped, after a quick sale if possible. Cheers, Karl.

Thanks for the reply The Funk! As for the not sure about parts, do you think it seems too sudden in just the first time or both times? The second time through sounds a little more flowing (to me) and perhaps a touch more sudden/abrupt the first time. And the break, do you mean general tightness into the guitar part? Thanks again for the comments, especially the tail one Cheers, Karl

Attached is a song called "Cry", I wanna know what you think is good, what you think is bad etc. This is off an upcoming CD from my band "Inside View" and look forward to hearing what you think. Cheers, Karl

Hey, I ended up sticking with a 5 in the end (Spector Legend 5) but I still pine for a 6, I think possibly for my next purchase later in the year. The Spector works well for my band, so I don't think a bass I got would get gigged so much (some negative opinions from my other band members plus the audience expecting me to overplay or be amazing, of which I do neither). I've seen news (rumors) of a RockBass Corvette 6 possibly making an appearance later on in the year, puts it right up on my list (love the shape), and I think a price range of around £300-500 will be suitable, so keep the suggestions coming in. Thanks for the new responses Karl.

WOW, I'm liking the new RockBass line. I think one could be my next purchase, RockBass Corvette 5 (or even a 6 if they do one).

I'm another happy Tone Pump (Jnr) user. My Legend 5 is very hot for what my band plays (Pop/Rock), but I love the tone, especially through my Zoom's "tube" preamp modeler. I only have a touch of treble and bass boost on and it sounds great!

I started off as a guitarist too, then switched to bass, so started with a pick. I quickly switched to finger style and tried mixing it up a bit. Up until recently I've been 100% finger, although at band practise last week I randomly flopped a pick out, and it really fitted some of the songs, was great fun to play again, and got a lovely sound out of my Spector!

What was the gear outcome of 2008 for you?

Basses = 0 (2 in, 2 out) FX = +1 (3 in, 1 out) Amps +1 (1 in, 0 out) Basses In = Squier Deluxe Active Jazz V & Spector Legend 5 Out = Vintage V940 + Squier Deluxe Active Jazz V FX In = DHA VT1 Eq-Bass-Drive, Zoom B2.1u (x2), Behringer BLE100 Out = Zoom B2.1u Amps In = Ashdown Perfect Ten practise amp. (I don't have a rig). -
As everyone's already said, if it's a Euro, buy it now without any hesitation! I've got the Legend 5 Classic and it's really nice, but I need to get a good set up done.

I've had experience with both the guitars and basses, and they're a decent brand. Good for on a budget, although as Machines mentioned, their higher end models are really quite nice! The V1004DX is gorgeous (see Machine's review!).

My first bass was a 5 string, and I didn't have any troubles. Certainly don't have any troubles going between a 4 and a 5.

It took a while to get here, but after my first few days with this pedal I thought I'd post my impressions! Build Quality: 9 - Absolutely outstanding. Sturdy case that could certainly stand some abuse. Pots are secure and have a nice feeling to them (not loose, so hold settings very well), and switches have a satisfying "click" to them, especially the foot switch (it's true bypass). The pedal itself weighs a lot less than you'd expect, especially on first glance, but this is by no means a bad thing! Looks: 10 - I think it looks really cool. I'm sure most have you have seen the paint job, and I love the real custom vibe that it gives off. The blue LED behind the valve and the really bright blue operation LED finish off the look, and all my band members were impressed! Sound: 9 - The range of sounds from this pedal is incredible. From smooth bass tones to a really gritty overdrive, it's all there! I started with the unit flat and the tone controls on my Spector on flat, and went from there. The EQ controls are very responsive and little adjustments yield big changes in the sound (I believe you get +/-12dB adjustment from each pot). One of the best features of the EQ is the "Q" pot, that adjusts the mid frequency. It took me a little while to find the "sweet" spot, but once it was there it sounded amazing. I had the I/P pad set quite low as the output from my Spector is quite hot, and I set it so I started to get valve break-up from about the 2 oclock position on the gain pot. The valve break-up itself is lovely and warm, and I was very impressed. Adding Boost with the switch (controlled by the Boost pot) added to the sound even more, and flipping the "colour" switch added a lot of gain/fuzz to the sound, and some really nice sounds are to be gained. Practical use: 9 - I think the sheer range of sounds on it's own make this a worthy addition to anyones pedal board. I ran a line cable from the laptop to the line in of the pedal, and then headphones into the headphone socket, and this made the box into a perfect practise amp (with the added bonus of it being silent for anyone else in your household!). The DI is silent as you like (also tried it at band practise through our PA), and the level control pot is a handy addition (I imagine the sound guy would like this, as long as you don't set it too hot). I'm very impressed with the pedal, but unfortunately, it didn't sit quite right with the bands sound. After about 9 hours fiddling, there was something to the sound that didn't sit quite right. This may sound hypocritical (especially after the glowing review, but believe me, this pedal is outstanding) but I'm not sure I'll be keeping the pedal. My main application is of course the band, and I feel I got the wrong idea of the sound I was after, and because of this I can't justify keeping the pedal. Despite this, I'd heartily recommend the DHA pedal to anyone, and Dave is great guy who quickly responded to any questions from me.

I quite like the Behringer Limiter/Enhancer, it's working well for me now, but will be upgrading to a BBE OptoStomp as soon as I can afford it.

Well done mate, had a couple of Vintage basses and guitars, very good brand, especially for the money. Congrats!

Played it last night with the band, and what a sound! I can't wait to hook it up to my DHA pedal (once it's completed and with me) and get some tube loveliness with it. I got an almost 'pick' sound with my fingers and it was just what it was after. This is the first bass I've been entirely happy with. Although I must say the old muscle memory is requiring a bit of a re-jig, as my last 5 string was a 34" with 19mm spacing and the Spector is a 35" with 17mm spacing. Doesn't sound so much but I occasionally don't go far enough down the neck to get frets 1 and 2.
