I've had this bass for a few years now, but it's recently been quite neglected. Needs a good set up and a bit of TLC. All electronics work fine except the jack which is probably just a loose solder as it crackles if the lead moves too much. Currently with an active EQ (bass & treble cut/boost), P/J pickups. Natural bubinga body, (its a small and light body). A couple of scratches and marks on the body, general wear and tear. Asking just £20, free delivery around the northwest-area.

Hey guys, we've just uploaded a video preview of the four songs we've recorded along with clips of us in the studio etc. Hope you enjoy, let me know what you think! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=CJJ1cXXHPeE

My band is in the studio at the moment, and as far as editing goes, the only timing changes are ones that are very noticeable and detrimental to the song, such as when the g*itarists miss the opening beat, and even then it's only "very close" to the beat. We definitely prefer the natural feel.

My band Inside View are in the studio at the minute, and we have a quick clip of our guitarist recording a solo. I realise the vid is poorly lit and you can only hear the guitar mostly, but I hope you enjoy anyway! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=5L4mny4RXaU
Valves add compression anyway as they tend to fatten out the sound and seem slower to react to peaks than solid state. But there is always the colour switch on the EQ which switches in a negative feedback path into the circuit and this introduces compression and gain. Dave
Sounds like it'd be just what I need Dave! Would the pedal be OK to run after a Boss tuner pedal, or would I be best just leaving the tuner out until I need it? The idea of the VT1 is certainly intriguing and would be great to have all my tone coming from just the one pedal.

If I was to buy the DHA VT1-EQ-DassDrive would the internal tube offer any natural compression? With regards to compression I'm only after a tiny amount just to smooth out the sound, so was wondering if having the tube in the DHA pedal would give me the small amount I need?
I would get three pedals: A tuner A compressor/limiter An EQ Boss make industry-standard, high quality versions of all these (the compressor is called the Bass Limiter-Enhancer, and you want the dedicated Bass EQ; the tuner is the standard TU-2). If you're not wanting anything more radical than a simple clean bass sound you won't need more than that for any situation. You don't really need a DI box if you use modern-type pedals like Boss since they all have built-in buffering and will happily drive any amp, desk or length of cable (or DI box, on big stages where the soundman will probably want you to use his one anyway). I think that high-quality individual pedals do sound better than cheap multi-FX units too by the way.
Would you recommend the Boss LMB over say perhaps the BBE OptoStomp? I like the look of the OptoStomp, nice and simple, and I'd have it as an always on effect.

Cracking little pedal, only selling as I'm going down the individual stomp box route. Very good condition, only used in bedroom and a couple of band practises (I tend to use one sound so it's barely touched). Comes with box, PSU and Cubase software. I'm asking for £60. Collection from Wigan, although will deliver for free if you're in the Northwest area.

Very nice sounding and playing bass, much talked about on here and on TalkBass, I'm selling mine as I'm after the VMJ. Very good condition, one small little scratch on one of the horns, about 4mm long, only noticeable on close inspection. Used mainly for bedroom playing, only really taken out of the house 3 times max. Asking for £150, will include the gig bag. I'm reluctant to ship as I don't really like shipping basses, I'm located in Wigan and I'm happy for people to come and try it before hand, or I'll be willing to drive a little way.

At the risk of looking like I'm trying to steal someones sound, perhaps a tone similar to this video: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ANlkDwF3P-o&...feature=related Just a nice round tone and not too bassy.

I'm hoping to change from my Zoom to just 2-4 pedals that will give me "my sound" no matter what amp I plug in to. Don't get me wrong, the Zoom is a great pedal, but I only need one sound. I was wondering what 3 or 4 pedals should I be looking at to give me a good sound. I'm guessing a compressor/limiter to be one of them, and then presumably some form of DI box (MXR, SansAmp etc) at the end. I was just hoping I could get a couple of ideas/recommendations and then go from there! I will be selling my basses and Zoom in the coming weeks (hopefully) and getting myself a Squier VMJ after deciding to get back to basics and not go for a 6 string that I asked about in another thread. Thanks for any help!
Buy one if you feel like it,but i dont really think 6 string bass has much point to it unless you are a big fat monster session dude playing behind RnB singers, and it wont get you any more chicks,to many strings and you can lose sight of the fact you are supposed to be holding down a bottom end groove.Saying that there are some good players that use 6 string basses, try it maybe it will be your thing.

I'm slowly growing used to the idea of a 6'er even though I'm on my third. I don't like the extra wide fingerboard but I do like the additional freedom the extra C string gives me. I can even attempt to play chords! I'm far from being any kind of session monster.
See the thing is, I've played a couple of 6s, and I actually felt really comfortable with it. I don't plan on being a solo bassist/session player/crazy sounds kinda bassist, but I plan on having "my bass" as such (monogamy ftw!), and for me to have the option of the 6th string would be nice. Also, having just seen a couple of tasty pictures of the Spector Legend 6 Classic in Bubinga finish, wow, major GAS attack. It's far out of my price range, but I may end up selling my laptop on yet so that would bring me a lot closer. I hate GAS!

At the moment I have a Squier Deluxe Jazz V, and I think it's a cracking bass, especially for the money, but I'm hoping to get myself a 6 string, preferably in the not too distant future. Tone wise, I could do with the bass that can give a bit of variety, but I think mainly I'm after a nice smooth but punchy finger tone. I quite like Mike Kroegers tone, also Tye Zamora from Alien Ant Farm. I've just auditioned for a band, it's more of a slower, ballad kind of band, but with a couple of more upbeat songs. I imagine I'd be selling on the Squier, but being a student, I really can't stretch much....so would it be possible to find myself a decent 6 string for around £200-£250 (possibly £300 at a stretch)?

I agree with the lack of stuff in the Liverpool Dawson's, but when I went to the Manchester store to buy my Squier Deluxe Jazz V they were very helpful, got me a stool, lead and Trace combo after I asked "Would it be possible for me to try this Squier?". Then I'd finished and the same guy took through the rest of the sale with me, with some light hearted banter, and how much the staff and a few of his friends liked the bass for the money (plus they had it on sale at £199.99). Not a complaint from me!

I think I'd give anything to be the bassist in Evanescence from about 54 seconds into this video.

Excellent review mate. Do you have any news on whether you'll be able to review anymore Vintage gear? I've had Vintage guitars and even the fretted version of the fretless you had (I still have mine), and I've always been pleasantly surprised. I do hope they bring a 5 string out, I may get in a load of extra hours at work just to go towards it!
I'd be tempted to get the band together first and fit the kit around it. Chances are, you won't need anything like a £1k rig!

hmmmmmmmmmmmm +1
As I (think I) mentioned in the original post, I wont be ready to buy 'til the end of September or October so I imagine it'll be a few weeks or so into the course so I'll hopefully have an idea as to what I'll need. Definitely go for the GK head though, I've heard nothing but good things on both here and TB.
