I've got a Series I, the one with blocks and binding on the neck, Seymour Duncan vintage single coils in '70s position, Mike Pope 2-eq with VTC. Absolutely terrific bass: a beautiful Fender Jazz clone when in passive, and a hint of hi-fi when active. Super straight neck and strings almost sitting on the frets, veeeeery low action. Boutique bass, highly rated in the USA where is more popular than in Europe.

Having had all sorts of 'Rays from every decade, from pre-EB to current production and Classics, I thoroughly agree with Beedster here. In fact I have kept two, both from 1989. This is the year the new screw-through saddles on the bridge were introduced, so if you are looking for low action, you're in for a treat

My '89 is glossy, while a '90 I used to have already had a satin/wax board. The back of the neck remained glossy though, at least for another couple of years.
