1.
I have serious gas for this, I cant justify 3 SR5's and the pre EB though, question is do I sell the pre EB? I just wish my pre EB was a 5 string but as this is the closest thing possible.......Hhhmmm.......
I know it's none of my business Pete, but why on earth should you sell the pre-EB which is rarer and the only 4-stringer you're left with? If I were you I'd rather sell one of the the 5ers, if not both, because once you start with the Classic, none of the other two would see much of sunlight out of the case, guaranteed!! Or keep one of the two for gigging without fear...LOL
2. Final reduction to £925 + shipping
3. As a paradox, I hope someone buys quickly that other 'Ray black/maple on sale here on BC, because at that silly price it undermines everybody else's sale... LOL
4.
Great bass, great seller. Good luck mate!
Ah thanks Chris. I know I will regret it later, I am just thinning the herd, not much time to play nowadays... I see you managed to keep the '88 as the other one has gone, good for you. Cheers Claudio
5. New amended price in opening post
6. "Nearly time for lunch" kinda BUMP...
7. For sale is my vintage, translucent wine red, Ernie Ball MusicMan 4-string Stingray, 3-EQ, with original tolex case. I have bought her last year in the USA as a companion to a 1989 2-EQ, but professional arrangements have left me absolutely no time to enjoy her and she's been sitting in her case ever since, hence the search for a new home (therefore no trades, please). An unusual transition model, with metal battery cover and features introduced in 1990: the trussrod wheel at the neck's heel (much more comfortable to use and precise than the previous bullet trussrod at the nut), the 6-bolt neck plate, the glossy neck with a satin fingerboard (unlike the current unfinished wax and oil neck) without the skunk stripe on the back. The preamp cavity sticker dates 1991, but the old style pre-Flea bridge with non-hollow, screws-through-the-top saddles and working mutes dates back to 1989 (serial n. 28872), obviously one of the last available in stock before moving to the Flea bridge design (no angle on strings) in 1992. The bass is super-clean and in excellent condition throughout, with only one small cosmetic blemish worth mentioning, a little scratch through the finish on the back of the body (therefore not visible from the front) behind the lower horn (please check the pictures). The frets look absolutely like new, barely touched at all. I have noticed at the moment the strings are slightly offset, so a competent setup is therefore recommended and it would also achieve an action even lower than already is (which is probably already too low for most users....). Just mentioned it for extra pickiness.... Overall playability is spectacular, the tone is punchy and - having owned several Stingrays from pre-Ernie Ball to late '80s - early '90s "golden era" to current production models - it is somewhat warmer/less "clickety-clackety" than current 'Rays (likely the ageing of the woods contributed). The original black tolex case (preceding the current plastic molded Music Man hardshell case) is also in great condition and all the latches work. Price is £925 + shipping. Vintage instruments in very good nick are few and far between, and the same bass would cost at least £1200 through a specialist dealer, so let's not beat around the bush, alrite?? I will only send it with UPS through Interparcel (unlike Parcelforce - aka ParcelFarce - and others, they do not cap the insurance limit on instruments) and a UK shipping is £40, tracked and fully insured. If you prefer to organise your own courier, please feel free to do so, but I do not take responsibility for things outside my control. IMPORTANT NOTE: I will NOT be available for shipping Fri 23rd Mar - Mon 2nd Apr (both included), please keep it in mind. I can still keep in touch, although maybe with a little delay. If there is no interest here it will be eBayed sooner rather than later. Right, now you can officially start drooling.... Cheers Claudio
8.
I can post within UK for £10
GASP!! How is it that I always get quoted £40+ ?? Is it the insurance?? Nice bass, good luck mate.
9. I've got a black 4-string, and boy they are good! Ash/maple, Seymour Duncan custom single coils in '70s position, Fodera/Pope preamp with tone control, blocks and binding: it is the best Fender Jazz '70s clone I have ever heard and you can add a hint of modern hifi if you wish so. Small USA boutique bass. Go to http://www.fclefbasses.com/ click on the Galleries and drool (audio files much better quality than videos, studio recording vs live/Youtube) Not very popular in the UK though... yet Good luck with the sale
10.
My stunning 1988 3 band EQ MM Ray. Bought this last year from Claudio, it is stunning in everyway . . . but need to get a new tenor sax so this is up for grabs. Photos and details on the old post (hope you dont mind me using it Claudio?) - http://basschat.co.u...27#entry1455827
No problem Chris, good luck with this Claudio
11. These are really good pieces. I had a 4-string I bought from Brian Barrett at his LEJ shop in Murfreesboro, Nashville, Tennessee. Virtually unknown here but raved about in the USA. Good luck with the sale.
12. I had absolutely the same experience with Ron. I bought his Stingray Classic, the bass was in excellent condition as described and was packed like Fort Knox. Thanks Ron, it's been a pleasure dealing with you. Claudio
13. I have had an identical one (P-J, 2-eq, 24 frets) in sunburst, from new since 1981. Sold it a couple of years ago. Built like a tank and extremely reliable, never had an issue in all those years. Great Japanese stuff PS = the sound in that Go West clip brought me back to the days when a big dose of chorus was a must ... aaaaahhhh, the '80s....
14. After the departure of my old 1988 'Ray, here is the substitute wine red, some birdseye, 1989 serial number and 1990 features
15. Chris bought my 1988 Stingray. In a couple of PMs we had a deal, we kept in touch and everything has been just perfect. Thanks Chris
16.
Interesting bass.... but hardly played??
LOL Given the wear I suppose Elvis meant the bas has been "played hard", not "hardly played"
17.
ah.... so pure, so simple... so beautiful!
I agree Oli, black and maple is a classic
18.
'75 & MIJ does not compute...the Japan factory opened in '82 ???confused???
I took it as "With the specs of a '75 Jazz", like a re-issue, not "made in '75"
19.
Love it!
I had no doubt Pete...
20. Hi everybody. I know it is Stingray galore out there, but let's see anyway. PLEASE note the bass is FOR SALE ONLY, in order to fund something I have already secured. 1988 EBMM Stingray 4 string, in non-trans Red, with beautiful birdseye neck and fretboard, both glossy (unlike later and current production). Serial is 26854. 3-eq and Pre-EB style bridge. 4-bolt neck and metal battery cover. The body is not varnished, and it has a number of small chips (3-4mm) through the finish around the edge/bouts (visible in the last pic) and a very light checking on the back visible only at an angle. Very smooth on the front instead. The neck is absolutely fine and frets look barely scratched. The bass in excellent overall condition for her age but simply I have not played her for quite some time. The sound is "thick and pasty" like in a Pre-EB and it comes in a rectangular Fender hardshell moulded case in perfect state, WITH KEYS (the newer style with the four big plastic latches). Price for BCers is £999 including shipping to mainland UK, payable with bank transfer (Paypal has a nasty habit of monitoring me very closely, as they think I am a business trying to avoid merchant fees... yeah, right.....). Established BC international members welcome, but shipping will be extra. You and I well know this is a great price so let's not beat around the bush, alrite?!? PLEASE READ CAREFULLY: this is a LIMITED TIME OFFER. If you want it for Christmas it MUST SHIP by 12th/13th DECEMBER MAX. (shipping on 14th IS NOT GUARANTEED, it may be already too late, and 15th is ALREADY A GUARANTEED NO-NO), after which I will not be home anymore until January. Hence any payment must be done early enough. If there is no interest I may even try eBay but I always try to give fellow BCers a head up. Sorry but these are the only pics I have, as the wife has lost the camera last week at a wedding and my phone is just pure cr*p. Thanks for looking Claudio
21.
Do you mean the large anchor bolt things? My pre EB is 89mm centre to centre and 76mm outer edge of each going across the saddles. I presume the Classic bridge is the same as my pre EB?
Yes Pete, I mean those. My '88 and '89 are like that, I believe current Rays are larger sizes. I do not know the ClaSsic for sure.
22. This is a QUESTION for Stingray CLASSIC 4 owners (apologies for posting it here but I hope to find a small number of you that can answer me): can you please tell me the bridge measurements (in mm.) 1) between the two lateral bolts centres and 2) between the same bolts internally (the width for the saddles) Thanks in advance.
23. I thoroughly understand you, as I am also looking for the strings to be virtually sitting on the frets (well, almost...) Good luck with the sale, it looks fab!!
