If they're good enough and are happy to have the spotlight, then why not? I've had the good fortune to work with some immensely talented drummers over the years, players whose talent deserves more than approving nods from the rest of the band.

We're heading over to North Wales on Friday evening and back probably Sunday afternoon. I imagine you'll be going M6/M5. I'll have a look at our travel itinerary to see if there isn't somewhere we can meet up. Message me with some approximate timings and I'll see what I can do. ETA It would need to be an exchange on the outward journey as I'm doing a track day on Saturday. Failing that I should be able to talk Mrs. LBM into letting me hold on to it until we arrange an exchange. -

Hi Tony. We're about 15 miles round the M42 from the M5 junction. We go that way from time to time so know the road well. We could go south towards Worcester or north towards Halesowen. Alternatively there's Hopwood services a few miles up the M42. In our Fiesta a fiver would cover fuel pretty well (maybe a tenner for the Worcester area). We have a busy few days ahead but I can be around on Thursday or next Monday. Early Friday or late Sunday are also possible at a pinch. Since posting I've dug up a bunch of other books and software on 3.5" floppies. You're welcome to everything I can find. Let me know. Once we move I've promised my wife it will go one way or another. I would love it to go to someone who knows about it, but after carting it around from place to place for around 20 years I will reluctantly take it to the local recycling centre if needs must. Andy -
I remember Sack The Drummer. At the time I was playing guitar in a covers band called Tango With Dignity, and we followed you onstage at a marquee gig outside the Britannia pub on the Bedford Road. That would have been mid/late '90s. I can't bring any of your songs to mind, but I do recall being impressed by your performance if it helps...

Blurry, but it looks a bit like a 250 GT Berlinetta. Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Passo Corto Or possibly... Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta

As advertised, consisting of base unit, keyboard and mouse. Original CRT monitor has long since bitten the dust. Owned by me since new (mid-late '80s). Can't remember what's on it but there will be some games of the period, plus Impression and Pipedream and possibly some other stuff as well. I have all the original manuals for the machine. I also have original disks and user manuals for most of the software. It worked ok the last time I fired it up a few years ago. As indicated, this unit was upgraded to A440 spec and fitted with a W.E. 30mHz processor replacing the original 20mHz jobbie. I'm told there's a bit of a market for this type of kit but it's moved house with us several times and I haven't found that market yet. Hopefully someone around here knows more about it than I do... We're moving house soon so I don't have the time to do any P&P. Collection/handover only please. I live in the Solihull area not far from the A34 Stratford Road but can travel within reason.

8 x Maxell CD-R 3 x Philips CD-RW Unused and still sealed. We're moving house so I have neither the time nor the inclination to pack and post them. Collection/handover at agreed location only please. I live in the Solihull area (just off the A34 Stratford Road) but don't mind travelling within reason.

I never saw them as merely bits of wood and metal - I'd hate to think that anybody might view a finely crafted musical instrument in those terms - but in my world they were there mostly to do a job, yes.

At the risk of being a party pooper, I very rarely if ever suffer from post-sale angst. I do get qualms sometimes before putting stuff up, but I can always provide a rationale for selling so once it's gone it's gone and I can invariably wish the new owner well with little or no regret. I guess a lot of it is down to why you buy & sell equipment in the first place. If you do it primarily because you love basses and are prepared to pay the cost of that infatuation then fine (no criticism implied), but I tried always to take the view that they're tools built to do a job and that anything I bought had to earn it's keep irrespective of my views about it as an object. With one or two notable exceptions I have stayed faithful to this mantra over the years.

Are there such things as maracca virtuosos?
leftybassman392 replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
Fair enough. As was I. Thanks for clarifying the point, but drummers (along with guitarists, singers, keys players and just about everyone else who doesn't play bass) do come in for a bit of stick on these pages from time to time. Just making sure. -

{My emphasis} Not to be overly picky (and allowing for slight inaccuracies in the quote), but actually that's not correct. As a matter of Mathematics very similar considerations apply to both melody and rhythm. (I can flesh that out a bit if anybody wants me to.) -

Apologies if I'm wrong about this, but what I'm getting from the OP is a bit of an echo of the 'do drummists count as musicians?' debate that has been aired on these forums in the past... For the avoidance of doubt: yes they do. Like many around here no doubt, I've had the good fortune to work with some spectacularly gifted musicians whose instrument of choice is percussion. To a man (or in one case, woman) they have been a joy to share a stage with. -
Looks like a UK franchise for veneers sourced probably from the developing world, and the UK agent has simply done a basic cut & paste job from a source where English is not the first language. Or possibly done by someone who is severely dyslexic...? Either way, it does look like a lack of proper care & attention. Seller seems to have done a lot of trading in this stuff so looks genuine from that viewpoint (which was my first query when I read it from the OP). Still, as long as the product is what you're expecting then no harm done presumably.

Having played this a bit (and taught it quite a lot! ) I've found that as long as you nail the intro riff you can pretty much bluff the rest of the song without too many worries. There's a little 3 against 2 scale passage towards the end of the song that you need to get right as well IIRC but apart from that it's pretty straightforward IME. Oh, and unless your singer really must sing it in Db then you can safely do it in D.

Another solution that nobody seems to have mentioned is to embrace the situation. Cocktail gigs, to be precise. I spent a period where I would turn up to a wedding lunch, conference dinner or some such with a guitar and an amp, set up in a quiet corner where I wouldn't get disturbed or jostled, and spend an hour or two playing pretty much whatever I fancied for as long as I fancied playing it; as long as I played something that punters would recognise once in a while that was enough. Nobody's really listening to what you're doing as they have much more important things to do and talk about; but as long as they know it's there everybody's happy. Not exciting for either player or audience, but if you're any good at it you can make fairly decent money (at one point I was asking - and getting - £150+ an hour), and you don't have to share the gig fee with anyone. You do have to approach it in a professional manner though, both as regards material and technique - just rocking up and bashing out any old shite won't get you many return gigs. Oh, and most places will have a dress code of some sort as well. I now await the flak from the 'if I had to do that I'd have given up years ago' brigade. Before you do chirp though, remember this: there are many ways to earn a living in the music business; screaming to be heard over a room full of noisily inebriated and disinterested ne'er-do-wells is only one of them. If bass is the only instrument you play (covered in a forum topic recently) it may be more of an issue of course...

I'd normally give this a 'like', but you have far too many for your own good already so you'll have to settle for this.

I used to live in Northampton. Does that count? Played in a band called Tango With Dignity on the off-chance that anybody ever saw us... Oh, and welcome to the forum.

Am I weird because I've never played guitar?
leftybassman392 replied to thepurpleblob's topic in General Discussion
Depends why you're doing it. For the average weekend warrior (and probably the odd regular player too) there's probably no real need - as long as you can play the most of the right notes in most of the right places you'll most likely be fine most of the time. Mostly.... For many years until my retirement I saw myself as a working professional. In that context, having some insight into what other members of the band were doing was something I found very useful. Not essential as such, just useful. For the record I can - or at least could - keep half decent time on a drum kit and play a keyboard rhythm backing (albeit at a fairly basic level). Oh, and my original training was guitar anyway; although I'd always tinkered with bass I didn't really get serious with it until I was some way along the road. I didn't see it as a step up or a step down (yeah yeah yeah...) or even a step sideways, more an additional skill I could bring to my gigging and teaching. One of the issues that can arise with the 'never done it, never wanted to' outlook is that it can give rise to a kind of ghetto mentality. Again, it doesn't need to be a problem (not that I'm accusing anybody anyway), but just runs the risk of limiting your scope if you ever decide you want to branch out a bit. -
For information: I have had a number of PM requests recently from people who have clearly joined Basschat for the specific purpose of making an offer for this amp. Just to be clear: I do not respond to such requests. The amp, if sold on Basschat, will be sold to an established member of the forum, i.e. someone who was a member before the ad was posted. It will not be posted, transported or couriered to a distant location, much less to a foreign country. Furthermore, I will see funds safely and permanently in my bank account (or if cash, in my hand) before it goes anywhere. I don't do Paypal. I trust that I have made my conditions of sale sufficiently clear. I would like to sell it here, but if that is not to be then I will sell it somewhere else.

Does my pub band really need 4 PA speakers?
leftybassman392 replied to solo4652's topic in General Discussion
Don't like to say I told you so, but... well... I did. In any normal band the drummer would have been told to take a hike with this attitude. In this band he's the band leader's son so don't expect much to change any time soon.
