  1. Thanks mate. Yes it is an outstanding piece of kit. I don't use these days though so time to move it on to a good home.
  2. As with the previous thread on this subject, this thread kind of highlights the difference between the typical weekend warrior and the typical working professional. No criticism implied btw (and of course the boundaries are often a bit blurred), just that priorities tend to be different in the different spheres of activity.
  3. I try always to put my location in 'for sale' ads. Whether I let the greater Basschat community know where I live is up to me, surely? Or am I missing something?
  4. Just a trifle harsh I feel. It may not be your musical taste (not mine either as it happens) - or stepping on hallowed toes perhaps - but it was at least competently performed. Still, judge for yourself: Stairway to heaven
  5. Thank you Sr. Feliciano. We'll, er, let you know.
  6. End of an era: the Hurricane is up for sale.

Saw the headline and thought you were selling a plane for a bit there. xD

  7. Asking price now £700 ono Up for sale is my Cornford Hurricane, 22W all-valve guitar combo. Most people reading this won't need telling about this amp. In case you do though, here's a link to a review: Hurricane review Here's a link to some stock pictures of the amp - mine looks just the same!: Stock pictures This is an early model dating from 2004 with a 3-digit serial number (actually it's four digits, but the first one is a zero). It's complete with the original footswitch and connection cable, and has a proprietary soft cover of a type that are easy to find on eBay. Cosmetically it's in outstandingly good nick. I'm working from memory as I type this (the amp is at PMT for a full revalve and service) but I can't recall any blemishes on it at all. If anything does come to light when I get it back I will dutifully report it here. It has led a pretty easy life (a small number of gigs plus the odd recording session, and it was my main amp in my teaching studio for a couple of years). Changed priorities and some medical issues mean that I no longer use it. This is a great amp that has (and I know some people don't like reading this kind of thing, but) genuine rarity value. At this stage the asking price is pretty firm (but feel free to make offers ). For what I hope are obvious reasons I won't be posting this - collection at an agreed location is the only option I'm afraid. I live in the Birmingham area but can travel for a little bit of petrol money. The amp may be available before Christmas but probably best to assume not. Any questions, feel free to ask. My Feedback
  8. Apparently her 100m time is within 7 seconds of Usain Bolt. WTF!? Edit: Oh and to the OP, I'm pushing 65 and still play regularly (for myself these days, but you never know...).
  9. It's possible to see both sides of the argument here. On the one hand it does look like over-zealous policing (especially when you see it flagged up as a tabloid banner); but on the other hand the law is the law, and driving while not properly insured is against the law. You can't have it both ways: you either bite the bullet and stump up or else accept the consequences on those (hopefully very rare) occasions when you get caught. Yes it's a stacked deck, but what else is new? At the risk of sounding harsh, I find it hard to have sympathy for people who run the numbers, get caught and then chirp about it. As a by-the-by, does police training not include teaching officers how to do speling?
  10. From a peak of (I think!) 16 instruments - 9 guitars and 7 basses - around 6 years ago I now have 7 in total, including just 1 bass (my much-loved SeiBass Original 5 headless). And a banjo. Oh, and a knackered old mandolin that I promised my cousin I'd have a look at a year or two ago... I've never been a collector as such, so although I have (and have had) some classic instruments the driving criterion was that they should all pay for themselves as an absolute minimum. With a couple of exceptions I'm pretty sure I succeeded. Now that I don't use them to earn a living I don't need so many, and in truth it was getting to be a bit of a ballache to carefully transport them everytime we moved.
  11. That sounds about right. A refusal to cover will most likely be specific to the proposer, whereas declining to quote will be to do with the risks the underwriter is prepared to cover and as such no reflection on the proposer individually.
  12. IME the term 'semi-professional' is, for insurance purposes, pretty much a meaningless term. I've been out of the loop for around 7 years now though, so things might have changed in the meantime... Just as a matter of interest, I'd be interested to know whether anybody has actually used that term when arranging their car insurance. If you did, how did they react? Serious question. Just as a passing observation, having just read the entire thread I'm hearing hearing a lot of 'This is how the system works. No, really...' from one side and a lot of 'That can't be right, because...' from the other. Sweeping generalisation I know, but all the same...
  13. That's what I bought! Went in to the shop with a specific agenda to A/B test a number of amps using mainly my new Faith Mercury but with my trusty (if battered) Takemine EN10 as a second string. The Takemine was actually a good test guitar, being IME pretty hard to get a really good amplified sound from. I have to say that the AER stood head & shoulders above everything else I tried (some of which was not that far short of it in price). No contest to my ears - in fact some really quite pricey amps were very disappointing, although in fairness one that I tried - a Fender Acoustic SFX - was unexpectedly good (if a bit gimmicky). After an hour or so of testing I walked out of the shop with a cutesy little Compact 60 clad in a plush looking natural oak wrapping, for which I paid £890 all in. The oak is apparently a limited edition finish that normally costs more than the standard black tolex - which I would have been quite happy with - but it was the only compact 60 in stock so I got it at the regular price. I'll have a bit of a play with it over the next little while and will report back in due course. Pics shortly too. While I'm here, if anybody has or knows of a decent studio I can use to record some bits at a sensible price then feel free to let me know. I live in the Solihull area but can travel.
  14. Well waddya know? Basschat is populated by comedians. Whoda thunkit? p.s. Thanks for the headsup.
  15. Just a quickie; is there any way you can restore the sub- and superscript options to the post editor please? Apologies if this has been requested already.
  16. 9 letters eh? if you have '-caster' at the end you can only put 3 letters in front, so how about this: [random letter] + 'ad' + 'caster' Particular favourites of mine include:- Cadcaster Dadcaster Madcaster Sadcaster Tadcaster
  17. Bitsacaster? Probably taken already though.
  18. Others will have more detailed responses to offer no doubt; but to state the obvious, one's a minor tonality and the other's a major tonality. The writer is looking to draw a distinction between the fairly dark character of the main theme and the somewhat brighter second theme. Yes it's all drawn from the same collection of notes, but it's to do with emotional impact.
  19. Thanks for the input guys. Interesting alternatives. As you might expect I've listened to a lot of youtube comparisons of most of the models folk have suggested using my fairly pricey in-ears. There is a cost/quality tradeoff at work here. As a former player at performance level I still have certain expectations as to the sound I'll be happy with; on that score the AER is comfortably the most natural sounding of the amps I've heard to date (and at around 6 kilos is bang on for weight). It's just a question of whether I can justify the very substantial cost given the likely use it will get. Hmmm... I feel some quality time at my local guitar emporium could be in my near future.
