As the name suggests an assortment of music/tab books, comprising (in no particular order): 150 of the best jazz standards ever (Piano/chords/vocal) Joe Satriani Crystal Planet (notes/tab) Jazz guitar bible (notes/tab/chords) Robbie Williams Life Thru a lens (Vocal/Piano) Jimi Hendrix A musician's collection (Vocal/notes/chords) Crowded House Recurring dream (vocal/piano/guitar) ZZ Top Greatest hits (ocal/notes/tab) Joe Satriani 10 easy guitar transcriptions with tab (notes/tab/lessons) Beatles complete guitar/vocal edition Al di Meola Picking Techniques We're moving house so I can't post them (and in any case they're ridiculously heavy so would cost a fortune!) so collection/delivery/meet within 25 miles of Redditch for a bit of petrol money. Hopwood services on M42 is not too far for me. VERY IMPORTANT: I don't have the time to separate them out from one another and deliver separately so it's all or nothing. (But hey, they're free, right?)

+1 for the museums. If time is limited head for the Rijksmuseum; if you have a little more time try to squeeze in the Van Gogh museum as well. The Anne Frank house is superb as well... apparently. It gets really busy really quickly and we just didn't have the time to queue for a couple of hours so we could be in a bunfight. Canal tours are probably a bit of an indulgence in the time you have, but well worth it if you get the opportunity. The Dutch rail network is excellent: if you get the chance you might want to consider taking a trip to Haarlem (compact and chocolate-box pretty) and/or The Hague (a huge city that you'll do well to see much of in a day).

Band names - how did you come up with yours?
leftybassman392 replied to AdamWoodBass's topic in General Discussion
Past band names include (in no particular order): Nude Kids on the Block The Blooze Brothers Tango With Dignity Rich Clifford In Tango we occasionally used to do spoof 'tours', of which the most memorable would have to be the time we gigged as Malt Loaf on the 'Boat out of Hull' tour. We had a brilliant caricaturist who did all our posters for us - completely free but done to a very high standard: I still have a couple of them up on the wall in my man-cave. Happy days! I had cause to remember this recently at the funeral of my former bandmate and close friend Malcolm, who came up with most of our best publicity and who died of bowel cancer in March. -
Tested and working but no longer of any use to me. Uses 4 x AA batteries. We're moving in the next few weeks so I won't have time for p&p (the original box is long since lost). I can meet/deliver within around 25 miles of Redditch for a bit of petrol money. ETA: Here's a recent eBay listing for an identical flashgun: http://www.ebay.co.u...8271&rmvSB=true

Our first single... whatcha think?
leftybassman392 replied to jonnyenglish358's topic in General Discussion
Very good as a first effort I'd say: I like the singer's voice, the song has a nice hook (a tad predictable perhaps but catchy nonetheless), and the playing per se was generally fine IMHO. I'd endorse the comment about the intro though. Also I thought the song lost momentum on the run up to the choruses. I think I know what you were trying to do but I'm not so sure it worked. Finally, I thought you lost just a little bit of cohesion around the 2:45 - 2:55 mark - could be me but something didn't quite sound right...? Not my natural listening these days, but trying to be as objective as possible. -

With apologies for the delay, but this is still available

9 tapes in a box. Unused and still in the box in their cellophane wrappers. Simple as! I'd rather not have to post this as we're moving house in a few weeks and are a bit busy! I can deliver within a reasonable radius of Redditch for a wee bit of petrol money. Hopwood services on the M42 is my nearest stopover. Edit to add: I've just found a second box of 10 tapes, complete and unopened. Added to the offer.

Made in 2006 and bought new, but has led a very easy life as we hardly ever use it. Has Microwave, Grill and Convection oven settings and is rated at 900W. Here's a review: http://www.reviewcen...views53085.html I cannot post so please don't ask. I can deliver/meet within around 25 miles of Redditch for a bit of petrol money. If it helps, Hopwood services on the M42 is well within range.

Free to a good home: a set of Yamaha YHT-199 5.1 surround sound speakers comprising:- Satellites x 4 (2 each F and R); Centre speaker; Active sub. All in spanking good condition and perfect working order. Here's a stock picture of the complete system: http://www.m4music.c...-5-1-ht-package PLEASE NOTE: This is for the speakers only; the receiver is not included. Also there are no speaker cables (the originals were rubbish and were binned shortly after buying the system). I cannot post these so please don't ask. I can deliver or meet up within a 25-mile radius of Redditch for a little bit of petrol money. If it helps, Hopwood services on the M42 is well within reach and I'd be happy to deliver there for a few quid.

Done.

I've had some great conversations at motorway stopovers, lay-bys and flyovers while buying, selling and exchanging gear. IME nothing quite matches meeting the person you're trading with face-to-face. Ah, happy days!

The Original Bass Institute (1980's)
leftybassman392 replied to iamthewalrus's topic in General Discussion
I did 2 10-week courses at the Guitar Institute, plus 10 weeks of 1-1 with an Australian Jazz guitarist (whose name I forget) sandwiched in the middle. That was '96-'97. Got around 90% in the final exam IIRC. I also did quite a bit of rhythm reading with a guy called Tony Scott.(I think that was his name...). Drove down the M1 from Northampton each week. -
Thanks for the input guys. I'll mull it over. I'm currently looking at the UMPro20s but I'll report back once I've had something for a while.

...and now for something completely different...
It would have been more interesting, for me, If they had played the piece with the guitars sounding like guitars. Making them sound like orchestral instruments defeated the whole point for me, If I want to hear an orchestra play that music I will go and watch an orchestra.
Except for the tutti sections they did sound like guitars (or at least I thought so: YMMV of course). Also I don't think the organ sounds were an accident of having a lot of guitars playing at the same time; I got the impression that some thought had gone into the arrangement of the parts, which in turn suggests that they'd done some analysis of why an organ sounds the way it does (cue the 'wind-in-pipes' jokes). As I said, I wouldn't want to listen to them for a long time, but an interesting idea nonetheless. Oh, and nary a music stand in sight. Worth a few minutes of my time at least. -
If you can make a £50.00 Casio sound like that, I think you might be onto something. Especially, if it can make 'Toccata & Fugue In D minor', sound like it's 'Toccata & Fugue In B minor'....
I'm not generally a fan of massed guitar music as it normally sounds horribly contrived and artificial to my ears, but I actually thought this was pretty convincing. They do have some orchestral stuff as well - 'Mars' from The Planets is a good example if you can find it. I wouldn't want to listen to them for any length of time (and the long-haired guy who seems to be the leader comes over as a bit of dick TBH), but as a one-off I thought it was ok. -

They do play other stuff as well... -
My venerable and much-loved Shure Pro in-ear jobbies have started to play silly buggers, so it looks like it's time for a new set. I don't play or teach for a living any more (so I don't need the £800+ ones I saw on Amazon), but I do want quality and am looking at a price point up to £200 (which is roughly what the previous set cost) if need be. Shure make the SE215s at around £90 (which looks pretty good value to me), and the SE425s on a SpOff at £199. Is it worth me shelling out the extra? Is there anything else I've missed? Normally I'd just ask a colleague what they're using, but I'm out of touch with recent developments in this type of kit and am hoping that there's folks around these parts who've bought new in-ears recently and can offer some up-to-date advice... Anyone?

RIP. A sad loss to the guitar world. My favourite Holdsworth track:

You know your band has made it when...
leftybassman392 replied to leftybassman392's topic in General Discussion
@Skank ...and Lady Gaga. You missed Lady Gaga. (A wasp, apparently. Along with several other creatures.) Not to mention <insert major artist here> Interestingly, as far as I can see none of the Beatles (collectively or individually) seems to have given their name to a beetle. Although Sting has been honoured with................... a frog. And while I'm here, Donald J. Trump has given his name to (amongst other things) an urchin, Hugh Heffner to a rabbit and Terry Pratchett to a turtle. There's loads more where this lot came from. -
Just a bit of fun... Here's one I found this morning: You know your band has made it when you have a crustacean named after you. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-39570005 Over to the BC collective...
