  2. Bump. It's been up here a month now and no apparent interest. I'll give it another couple of weeks then it'll go to the local recycling centre. Shame really as it still works perfectly well, but it's taking up house room and has to go one way or another.

[/quote] I played in a covers band once in which the singer would often change the lyrics in songs to 'soundalikes' that gave the song a completely different meaning. On the downside, people at our regular gigs started to expect it and we would sometimes get a bit of flak for playing songs as per the original lyrics.

For those members too young to have any clue what I'm on about (who shouldn't actually be here anyway - it's way past your bedtime you know...), you pick a total of 8 'songs' that have had a big effect in making you the person you now are (doesn't actually need to be songs as such - it could be poems, speeches, t.v. clips, Facetweet entries, etc. - but that was the original format). Audio/video clips of said 'songs' are highly desirable. Once you get to the end of your eight discs, you have to pick one as your all-time biggie. You're also allowed one book (look it up if you're not sure...) and one luxury - could be a bass but doesn't need to be (no people though - it's a desert Island so Drew Barrymores aren't allowed). I'll go first: Song 1: All Along The Watchtower by Bob Dylan, as performed by Jimi Hendrix. I was 14 when Hendrix first appeared, and 17 when he died. More than anybody else before or since, he made me want to be a musician. If you love the sound of the electric guitar, then the chances are that this guy had something to do with it. On another day I would choose 8 completely different pieces of music for 8 different reasons, but this is today's selection. If I could only choose one, and after a long time weighing up the options, it would have to be the Hendrix piece. In his short life, I believe he changed the face of popular music more completely than any other single individual, and spawned a love affair with the electric guitar that is as passionate today as it was when he was alive. Whatever choice of 8 pieces I make, this is the one song would always be there. For my book I would choose Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien (the works of Shakespeare is a given, but I'll do without a bible thanks all the same) For my luxury I'll take my Takamine EN10 acoustic guitar and a lifetime's supply of replacement strings and cleaning materials. Right. Who's next?

  17. I used to hand-make all my cables using top quality components and a soldering iron (I got sick of paying through the nose for 'professional' cables that were forever falling apart). Without rushing unduly I could wire up an XLR cable (3 soldered joints at each end) in around 30 minutes. Another minute or two with a multimeter to test the connections, and away we go. If I were ordering from a company that makes bespoke cables (and presumably employs a team of people with the right kit who do it all the time) I'd be disappointed if it wasn't made the same day. Delivery is in the hands of the Post Office, but making a cable to a professional standard is not a long job. Just saying...

I understand the argument (and it [i]would[/i] work, albeit at the cost of some more equipment to lug around), but like JTUK I don't really see the point for the vast majority of players; and let's face it, how many people are going to notice - really? Also, doing this would change the sound balance of your rig as you would no longer be getting any contribution from the 1x15 above the (very, very low) cutoff frequency. Potentially quite a lot of time and money to discover you don't like the sound any more...

[/quote] Yup, that would do it too. Using the X-over built into the sub will definitely get the best from it. Hadn't noticed the power amp sends and inserts - sorry! I'd agree that the insert looks post master fader - despite it not being explicitly stated in the manual it would be a bit weird if it wasn't given it's intended function. A circuit diagram would have helped... @OP If you decide to go this route you'll have a number of cabling solutions for the sub. Probably best not to give too much detail here, but if you have long cable runs it could get a bit messy - one option would be to use a cable snake: it would most likely have to be custom made (not hard but a bit fiddly unless you're handy with a soldering iron), but would be much the neatest way to do it. Long story short, any of the above would work although mike257's suggestion looks the most elegant.

[/quote] It's not strictly necessary, but if you're sending just the vocals through the onstage monitors (as you must have been up to now), having the kick sound there as well can confuse the issue a bit. If you're playing the kind of gigs you seem to be then the drummer (and the bass player while we're at it) is likely to provide all the reinforcement you need from a few feet behind you. Dad3353 can speak to this from the drummer's perspective; it's just how I would do it in your situation. This all assumes you have monitoring in the first place of course, but do you really want a monitor mix consisting of vocals, bass and kick drum? Dad also reinforced and developed my point about how the subs work. All they should be doing is adding a bit of 'weight' to the sound - if they're set up correctly most people won't really notice them. Please take this in the spirit in which it's offered, but trying to use them in the way you seem to want to is to slightly misunderstand what they're there for.
