1. You can't power passive speakers from an active sub. The signal is split at the I/P to the sub, i.e. before it reaches the power amp. The high pass O/P from the sub will send a line level signal, which won't work with your passive speakers.
2. It's a bit of a compromise, but in simple terms you connect the main speakers to the speaker O/Ps on the mixer, any onstage monitoring goes through mon1, and take an O/P to the sub from mon2. Don't forget to set the mon1 level for the kick to zero. You'll have to send some of the bass guitar signal through the main O/P because if you just send it to the mon2 send you'll get a *really* boomy sound with no character at all (active subs normally cut off at around 120Hz, give or take). Anything else is going to be very difficult to manage in an onstage environment. Also if the sub has an XLR I/P you'll need to get a special lead made up as it looks like the send on the mixer is a jack. Edit: to add: monitor sends should always be pre-fade, and you should have mon level knobs on the channel strips.
3. I loved the footnote to the analysis of 'Bohemian Rhapsody': '... one of the few Hot 100 hits to feature an Astrophysicist on lead guitar..'. Who says scientists have no sense of humour?
4. Power rating is almost meaningless without more info. If you get the chance, try same amp/different speakers and same speakers/different amp. As Phil has said, knowing make & model would be a big help. Also, any info on how and how long they've been stored. Are you aware of any damage or abuse they might have incurred in the past?
5. It looks like this: http://www.reevoo.co...less-steel.html Not entirely sure how old it is, but 8 years would be about right. It's had plenty of use (so don't expect it to look like new), but it still works perfectly (made our last loaf in it just a few days ago). I still have the original owner's manual/recipe book and all the spares (which you can still buy of course), but no box so I can't post it. If you want it you'll have to come to Redditch (at a pinch I could meet in the car park at Hopwood services on the M42). I don't mind travelling a little way to deliver it for a bit of petrol money and possibly a cup of half-decent coffee. Drop me a PM if you're interested.
6. A properly gigantic figure in the history of the electric guitar. Anybody who doesn't know why isn't looking hard enough. Do we assume it's cancer?
7. Bump. Just a reminder that the price is an 'o.n.o.'. Sensible offers will be considered.
8. It's been hinted at already, but worth repeating: she'll get further quicker if she's enjoying it. If that means you have to take a step back and watch lovingly from a distance then that's what you do. Last I had anything to do with it, primary schools started offering formal lessons in year 3 (rising 8), although it may differ in different parts of the country. There's a lot to be said for learning to read the dots, but perhaps not yet. One other thing: if you do plan to start lessons at 8 then you may need to go private, as IME school-based tutors are unlikely to agree to electric bass tuition at that age. Maybe things have changed in the last few years...
9.
This got added to YouTube by a former band member - I still quite like this track tbh! Note - I was a guitard/vocalist in this band!
Another gold Patrick Eggle Berlin if I'm not mistaken... in the same thread... Spooky! Mine was a '93 Plus - which I still have; battered & bruised from the years of onstage abuse but still alive. ( Yours looks like a Pro to me...) We seem to be trending towards a 'Patrick Eggles used in vids' thread I think. Can't see too much wrong with the vid though... sync looks very slightly off here & there, but nowhere near as bad as mine.
10. Hi!
Not really!
Point of order chaps... Is Bluejay the only one of you that's capable of using a camera? And don't give me this 'all fingers & thumbs with cameras' nonsense! It's a good job you don't say that when you're playing the basses... Seriously though, nice place innit?
11.
I was insulating my shed with Planet Rock on. I thought of you when Keepon Rocking came on
Fame at last!
12. Actually the original recording (done at Far Heath Studios, which will be familiar to many Northants bands) was pretty good - though you wouldn't know it from this version! I seem to recall feeling quite good about the solo; done in a single take with no drop-ins to a chorus of whoops, yells and general raucousness from the other band members, and (more importantly) an approving nod from the engineer.
13. A little while ago I was looking for something online, and found an old video I did with one of my bands. In truth I was hoping that this had disappeared into the ether by now, but it was posted on youTube by the band's second guitarist a few years ago (presumably after a failed blackmail attempt on another member of the band ). Recorded originally on VHS, and by my calculation around 18 years old. Sync is spectacularly bad at most points in the video, mainly because the original DAT master was used alongside some video footage of us miming it from a cassette machine that was playing back a smidge too fast... Thankfully I'm mature enough not to be too bothered about it, but I thought I'd share it all the same: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiMLy1kvTVY Anybody else feeling (wo)man enough to put up similar material for ridicule?
14. Another inveterate foot-tapper here. In my guitar-playing days I had to keep an eye on it just to make sure I didn't accidentally stomp on any of my stomp boxes.
15.
Goes without saying.....only from the "good" posters.
Maybe we should have a thread about where they've all gone... Good job by the way Bluejay. Any chance of it being posted somewhere here?
