Hendrix, it is said, could play both ways up and when playing bass did commonly play upside down as that was what would be available.
Ironically, it's actually easier to get a decent Lefty bass these days than a decent Lefty guitar. Some major companies (PRS springs to mind) have actually stopped producing Lefties altogether (although I don't doubt you could still get one as a special order if you paid them enough...).
Turned upside down and bottom string at the top. My guess is leftie guitars were harder to find back then.
What, as compared to now you mean?

+1 for the Mackies, especially with a Mackie active sub - two if you have the money and/or venue. Had a set of the originals (with the RCF speakers) for years and they were the DB's - great with everything, especially good for vocals as they had some clever little switchable filters built into them. Newer models aren't quite as good IMHO but still plenty good enough! Having used decent actives I'd never consider passives again. Come to think of it, is RCF gear in your price range (should be if Mackie is...)? Haven't used them myself but everybody who has raves about them, and I notice someone else has referenced them as well.
Sorry to start this back up. Did the Mackie cope with your bass OK? I'm really liking the look of these little mic stand monitors, but I'd want to hear myself too.
You shouldn't really need bass from your monitor - there'll be plenty around already. You really need to hear the mids and highs - vocals, guitar, etc.(you'll also get plenty of your bass as well if you have it in the PA mix - which you really should have of course ). That's what small monitors are all about.

Glamour models can't play bass - fact.
Glamour models can't play bass? Nonsense! You want proof?
I don't see the problem here - looks like a pretty good slap technique to me... -
Tokai looks like a good 'un. Getting a LP for the sound is a great reason... I can't think of many others though. I had an 80's Custom a few years ago, and had to let it go after about 9 months of trying and failing to get on with it - fabulous sound as you'd expect, but it was heavy and awkward, and the upper fret access was truly awful - not to mention the pots that worked backwards! I was SO disappointed! Still - I got my money back with a few quid on top when I came to sell it, so not all bad news.

Thanks AM. I'll pass it on.

Hey guys. I have a question about an amp that belongs to my nephew. It's an Orange AD15 combo. Bought direct from Denmark Street in about 2000 (give or take a year). I don't have everyday contact with him so can't guarantee condition, but if it's anything like most of his other stuff it'll be in good nick and not heavily used (He never got to gigging standard as a player AFAIK so it's unlikely to have seen the dirty end of a stage...) He now tells me he wants to sell it but doesn't know how much to ask. There was a time when I'd have had it off him but not any more. So... Little help? Anybody?

Ironically I associate the Velvets' first album with a very happy period in my life. Happens to the best of us but sad news all the same.

Acoustic Guitar Soundhole Pickup With Stock Preamp?
leftybassman392 replied to topcat3355's topic in Guitars
Sound choice. You might also want to look at one of these: http://www.fishman.com/products/view/ellipse-matrix-blend-1 Plug directly into the PA if your setup allows it. -
Ironic name of the first thread responder I'm guess I'm lucky that our singer is able to sing in the original key, no matter what the song. Handy really, as I'm trying to think where we might apply these capos on her....
Not to be unduly smutty, but I did wonder why you had 3 of them...

I know it's been a while, but.... If it's of interest to you I have an old Midi Timepiece AV. It's an early model though, and so uses a Windows parallel/Mac serial connection. It's boxed and I have the manual lying around somewhere. I tried to sell it when I dismantled my studio a few years ago but nobody wanted it. Let's see if I can give it away.....interested?
Personally I think the primary goal of the Bass Bash is to meet other lefty players and try other lefty basses. Therefore i would say no house band. When else are you going to have such a diverse selection of left handed basses to choose from. I liked the chilled out atmosphere of last years bash but it would of been improved if we didn't need to keep turning down/ have people stare at us. A pub function room is ideal i think either that or a practice space.
It's certainly a fair point. It was a nice atmosphere wasn't it? It would be my choice as well as it happens, but let's see what the Lefty collective says...

A bit leftfield perhaps, but what about an Eggle Berlin? The company has been taken over more times than a Ryanair cabin crew and the current range is very bespoke and enormously expensive, but originals from the nineties might (just about) be (almost) within budget. Looks a bit like a PRS but is quite a lot smaller and a good deal lighter. Here's a linky: http://www.patrickeggleguitars.org/htm/bstd.htm

Greetings from an old old fart to a new old fart. Power to your elbow matey (which you're gonna need to play the violin ).

Perhaps a little bit OT in here (or maybe not...), but I have a thread running in the 'Events' forum about a proposed series of Lefty Bass Bashes in the New Year. If you haven't seen it yet you may care to pop over there for a bit of a read. Last year's was held near Warwick, and although attendance was small it was an excellent day that was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who came. I'm hoping for the same next time - but with bigger numbers.....
Leonardo da Vinci used a mirror to do that...
At the risk of being overly picky and anal and so on (and not wishing to offend one of our esteemed moderators - Ma'am), but I think Da Vinci just wrote it out. It was the people wanting to read it that had to use the mirror. And not wishing to be overly pompous and smug and so on, but I can actually do it as well - you know, with an actual pen and paper. I think a lot of Lefties can actually... It might be nice to see if Righties can do it without smudging the ink. But I digress.
Small pub function room? That should't be too difficult, provided we are allowed to make some noise. I can think of one in my area, off the top of my head. Only problem, mine is an expensive area of London and having that space for an entire day may not be as cost-effective as hiring a function room in a less upmarket area. On the plus side, I believe some local bands hire - or used to hire - it for rehearsals, which means noise should not be a problem. The above is just an example, of course. Hm, should we perhaps start a new thread to discuss the 2014 meetup, and then I can pin that one, as opposed to continuing on this old one?
Sounds like a good start. Depends a bit as to whether we want a stage, and whether we want it to be in public view. As to cost, well yes it is a factor - after last year's bash I was around £120 out of pocket. I certainly don't expect to make money, and won't actually mind losing a bit... just not too much if I can help it. As to the thread, I'll just redo the title a bit but would prefer to have it all in one place if that's ok. (I tried running two threads for a single topic a few years ago when I did the piece on Ancient Greek music, and TBH it was a bit of a pain to keep track of.) Could you pin this one up instead?
-
I'm beginning to warm to this idea. If we're gonna do it then, we need some suitable venues and an idea how it should be done. Do we want a house band? If so, we need a stage. And, er, a band. Do we want a little privacy? Personally I had no problem with people wandering up at the Porridge Pot, but some may feel we should keep it to ourselves a bit more, especially if we (that is to say 'me' with hopefully a bit of support from you) are paying for it. If the answers to the above are both 'yes', then we need to think about venues. Any ideas? Small, self-contained and easy to get to might be a good thought to keep in mind.
-
Don't big name bands do it? (I'm assuming that the OP has in mind the notion of top level players massaging their onstage sound a little, and not just the glorified karaoke seen in so many pubs & clubs...?)
-
I don't want to be Capital-centric, but holding one of the meetups in London would probably have a reasonable level of attendance. Not sure about anywhere else, unless you're happy with just 3-4 people turning up.
Yup, it's a fair point. Maybe the other one should be somewhere like Manchester? As I'm sure you already know I need to find a way of turning something that really ought to be a national event into a couple of regional ones, so I guess holding them in or around major cities would make a lot of sense. Even so, some people will be travelling further than they would to a regional event. As to numbers, well 16 people (I think that's right) made the effort to get to what was essentially a pub just off the M40 outside Warwick, so I would certainly hope for more than 3 or 4 in a place like Manchester! So what do people think about London and Manchester as venues?
-
For reasons much to tedious to go into, this is now looking like becoming LBB 2014. Still keen to make it happen though, and willing to organise two venues in different parts of the country if we can get it to work. (I seem to recall that quite a lot of people who would've liked to come to the last one didn't because of the journey.) So.....?

...and another one.

Very nice. Thanks for that.

My SeiBass Original is really quick. (Quicker than me, actually... )
