1.
Still not sure where I'm going basswise, (etc.)
So, nothing new there then What happened to the headless 5 BTW?
2. It's been a while. Just thought I'd ask..............?
3. Brief update (which will be my last for a while as we are about to move house and will have no internet until 16th at the earliest and no fibre optic until the ending of the world etc. ): Comments noted with thanks. Once the mayhem of the house move has settled a bit I'll get back to it. If you don't hear anything for a while don't worry 'cos I haven't forgotten! See you soon...
4. Hey guys. Following on from last year's event, this is a feeler to gauge the mood for this year. I'm sure that everyone who was there would agree that it was small but perfectly formed. (The feedback certainly suggested so.) As things are at the moment Patch and I are very busy, so the event would not be taking place this side of late June at the, er, earliest. In due course I'll be happy to organise things again, and I'm sure Patch won't mind mind either when he has time. Some things we'd like to know though:- 1. Are you up for it? (No point if nobody's interested...) 2. Where would you like it to be? (Most people agreed it was very easy to get to last year but found it a bit annoying to have staff keep asking them to turn down! - hence whatever happens it'll be a new venue.) I seem to remember somebody suggesting that somewhere in the Birmingham/Leicester/Northampton triangle would be good as it's central and there are lots of motorways. What do you think? 3. What format would you like? The format last time was very relaxed and friendly, but it would have been nice to:

turn up a bit!
have a perfomance area and perhaps a house band (no details as I haven't though it through but I like the idea in general).
4. Anything else? Food & drink... BC shop... ladies of easy virtue...? (ok, maybe not the last one, but you get the idea.) 5. Financial issues (I lost a bit of money on the last one and will probably lose a bit more on this one, but hey!). That's about it for now.... over to you!
5. Long time no see. Just thought I'd pop by with a little update about the guitar.... In the original design, one of the pull switches was wired to put the bridge humbucker in parallel mode. As it turned out, this meant that some settings caused the entire guitar to short to earth (not a health issue btw, just a sudden and unexpected loss of signal! ). It wasn't a problem as such, just a quirk of the humbucker's wiring. After some discussion with Rob, we agreed to explore some different options. Long story short, we've now lost the parallel setting but gained the ability to have any combination of pickups (including - amongst others - the classic Telecaster mid position setting of bridge sc plus neck). Eleven different settings in all. Unfortunately I haven't had much time to explore them all as we're moving house soon and the place looks like a warehouse! I'll report back again when we're in the new place and I've had some time to roadtest it properly.
6.
There seems to be a really strong culture surrounding the blues, with lots of musicians suggesting that it's a foundational genre i.e. for any kind of modern music making (i.e. not part of the classical world) not understanding or knowing about the blues will make you less of a musician in some way.
This would be a good attitude to have - it's hard to argue against and will stand you in good stead whichever way you go. As for listening, I don't think anybody's mentioned Jonny Lang yet, or for something a bit different perhaps Robert Cray? For a more 'upmarket' approach you could also check out Robben Ford.
7. Anybody noticed the lefty Wal for sale on eBay? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1982-WAL-CUSTOM-MARK-1-LEFT-HANDED-EXCELLENT-CONDITION-WENGE-FACINGS-/181046574362?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2a27377d1a
8. Used to have a 175 (It was actually a Heritage 575 as it happens, but since it was made using the original Gibson jigs by former Gibson employees you'd have to say it was the next best thing). Straight into a Polytone Mini Brute IV. I did solo dinner/function jazz gigs with it. Lovely, lovely guitar. I sometimes wish I'd never sold it, but needs dictated at the time.
9. Here's mine. I've owned and gigged more amps & guitars over the years than I care to think about, but right now this does everything I need. The guitar is a recently acquired Rob Williams custom build (see the separate thread for more info), and the amp is a Cornford Hurricane (20 watts). Couple of Boss pedals (CH1 chorus, GE-7 graphic that doubles as a booster, and a DD-3 delay), and away we go. 10. Musically, it has to be Jimi Hendrix for me. The fact that all the guys we like to think of as the original guitar heroes in the '60's were queueing up to watch him play says all I need to know. Outside music, blimey! Err... Well... if I stick to one person, I guess for me it would have to be Plato, because he continues to make very clever people think about who we are and why we're here 2400 years after his death. YMMV of course, as is your right.
11. Must say I was a bit surprised to receive it in my inbox (spam filter didn't catch it). It's a general address so could've been from anywhere I guess. All the same...
12.
Lead is not that difficult to master. Once you learn your pentatonic and blues scales its plain sailing
Not to sound overly anal, but if you're going to do it properly there's actually a bit more to it than that.....
13. Thanks JV. Isn't it gorgeous? I have some tentative plans to do some samples, but sold off all my studio gear a couple of years ago so may have to call in a couple of favours from some mates to get the gear I need. Certainly won't be before Xmas though.
14. Thank AM. It's a cliche I know ,but my photographic skills really don't do it justice. It's got some lovely touches: my personal favourite is the headstock design, which is a very clever blend of a Telecaster and a Stratocaster - not quite either one but with hints of both.
15. Okay ffolks, here we go. I'll put up a few of the best shots here and provide a linky to the full set (47 in all I think) ">http:// ">http:// ">http:// ">http:// ">http://: ">http:// ">http:// ">http:// There you go. Comments/observations/questions more than welcome. Just don't ask about the sound for a few days until I've had a chance to explore the palette a bit, ok? Edit: forgot to post the link to the full set: http://s1109.beta.photobucket.com/user/muso392/library/Custom%20Telecaster
16. It is a gorgeous thing to be sure, and I can well understand your thinking. (Not too sure how it would go down at your church though ) Strangely enough I've never really lusted after a Flying V - not too sure why. An Explorer though..... Speaking of such things (and with apologies for hijacking your thread a little), my new SuperTele is here! Oh my! Pictures appearing soon in the Rob Williams thread....
17. A good basic point to note is that although the fretboard layout (and hence note placement) is essentially the same, the skillset is a little different as between the instruments. As long as you bear that in mind and adjust your thought process accordingly, you shouldn't have any problems.
18. It's the big day..... almost! Going over to deepest Wales to pick it up on Saturday morning (nice & early as he's off to London for the weekend). Pics will be posted as soon as. Oooooooh!
19. +1 for Photobucket. Solved my upload issues at a stroke. Hey Alan. How's things? Haven't seen you around these parts for a while. Then again, I don't visit too often myself these days.
20. Bit of an update: I got a call from Rob a couple of days ago on a small technical matter, and he let slip that there's a good chance the guitar will be ready around the end of November - a good 2 weeks ahead of schedule. He's also sent a couple of shots from the early stages of the build, but they're thumbnail-sized and hence not much good for showing you how it's going. (I did say he's kind of old school...).On the bright side, there's going to be a DVD of the build when I take delivery.
21. Made a donation a little while ago. If I can help in any other way don't hesitate to drop me a PM.
22. Like I need something else I won't use... Have some money instead. (Donation made.) Keep up the good work guys.
23. Openletter-type request to those involved in setting the new forum up... Hey guys. It's been a month since we last posted here. Any news?
