1. +1 on the Pacifica. A good used one will be in a different league from the Peavey (or a Squier for that matter) at around the same price.
2.
Anyone here know how to contact Deezbar? - I PM'ed him on the Roscoe but he hasn't been online since Nov 2nd.
I've left him a voicemail message and a text. He doesn't come on here much these days as he's a busy man, but with luck he'll get back to you soon.
3. Deezbar's Roscoe used to be mine and is a real beauty made sometime mid-90's (when asked, Roscoe themselves couldn't give an exact D.O.M.). I bought it from a guy in Fort Lauderdale, Fl. a few years ago. The bridge is new, a direct replacement for the original (which was still in the case when I sold it to Dave IIRC). The fretboard is epoxy coated. Aside from that it's all original. Plays like a dream. Deezbar is a superb bass player and a top man. I've traded numerous bits of gear with him over the last few years and never felt I got anything other than a great deal. Best of luck with the sale Dave!
4. Well, I took a listen, bought the CD and left a message effectively crediting you with the sale! Well worth at least a fiver of anyone's money IMHO. I agree about the mix as well - a damn fine job all round. I'd have preferred a little more guitar in the mix, but that's just me being an old fart guitarist I guess . Did I detect a slight hint of Kate Bush in the vocal delivery? Whatever, a very fine production from all involved. Nice one mate.
5. ... in which case I got it right. Problem is, us old farts tend to have more to choose from, so the notion of a 'favourite' becomes a bit harder to pin down 'cos there's so many to choose from. Oh no wait... I said that bit already.
6. Blimey! Where do you begin with this topic? Are we talking pyrotechnics? Musicality? Taste? Style? In the absence of governing criteria and being an old Rock/Blues fart at heart I'm going to pick a Hendrix song - All Along The Watchtower (several solos; take your pick) - and yes I do know it's actually a Dylan song, but if you love guitar then which version would rather listen to? In 45 years I've never tired of listening to it and still stop what I'm doing whenever I hear it.
7. Hey Nigel. Not much I can add to what's been said already, except of course to say how much I enjoyed it! Great to see that live music is alive and well - reminded me how much I miss it. Thanks to Bluejay as well for sharing. I don't hang out here so much at the moment..... you say there's an EP?
8. +1 here for second hand. You'll get a lot more for your money (and it will be well made so shouldn't go wrong).
9. I had this recipe from one of the fretboard techs at Patrick Eggle many years ago and have used it ever since:- light mineral oil and lemon oil mixed 2:1. It just works! At one time I used it (sparingly) every time I changed strings, and never had any problems.
10. Well it's being organised by some of the current BC crew so we live in hope.
11.
Anyway, the idea behind drumchat is so that there's a resource of musicians. Guitarists are ten a penny!
Steady! You could be heading for a spanking Anyway, it's already on the agenda so I love emoticons!
12. Same idea as the Drumchat thread really. Also gives those involved in it's development an opportunity to post updates....
13.
Rob Williams guitars is another option for custom guitar builders. He's in Wales http://www.robwillia...rs/Welcome.html Jazzyvee
I would have mentioned him myself as he's building one for me at the mo - see the separate thread in this section. However mine is costing £2800, and AFAIK the cheapest he will do is around £2000 Pretty much scuppers the OP's intentions I fear...
14. Indeed! Speaking as a guitarist about to spend nearly 3 times that figure on what I fondly hope will be the best guitar I'll ever own, I tend to think that a custom guitar has to be something a bit special (and hence more expensive). I'm sure younger members will see that as a bit blinkered, but I am what I am. Modern bass design is incredibly rich and varied. I'll be following this thread with interest to see how well that design flair has filtered through to the world of the reasonably-priced guitar. Best of luck in your search!
15. At that price I can foresee a possible issue, in that £1000 will buy a very decent off-the-shelf model. I'm not trying to put you (or him) off, but I have a feeling you may struggle to get what you want at that figure (I'm not so sure the market is there for sub-£1k custom guitars in quite the same way as it is for basses). I'd love to be proved wrong though!
16. John Diggins (Jaydee) does guitars; no idea about prices but wouldn't harm to ask. A guide figure might help. (I'm assuming from your post that you have around £1500 in mind?)
17. It's an interesting thing you say about the Seymour Duncans. I have a pair of them in the Eggle and it definitely has a certain 'sound'.. As it happens I rather like it, but you wouldn't really call it a classic sound. Each to their own I guess. It certainly did the job in the RockBlues covers band I played during the '90's through my Marshall ministack! The pickups are a bit of an unknown, but surely that's part of the fun?
18. Bit of an update: Stu: just to let you know the neck is a single slab of Rock Maple with a second piece for the fretboard. I don't know if that's what you meant by a 2-piece? Angel: I'm afraid you'll have to wait until it's finished - he's doing a set of pix as he goes but is putting them on a DVD rather than emailing them. I'll have a DVD full of 'em in a couple of months though...
19. Blimey - a bit of activity here all of a sudden. To respond to the various posts:- Billy apple: strictly speaking it's actually a hybrid, taken from my favourite bits of my favourite guitars. I've loved the Tele body shape since I was a kid; the electrics are based on a superStrat layout but organised so as to be able to get the maximum tonal breadth with a minimum of clutter; the neck will be very close to that of a Gibson 335 (whose necks I've always preferred to anything Fender ever made). The set neck idea is part of the Gibson thing (and is something Rob does particularly well). A drop top is a 2-layer construction - the base wood is invariably Mahogany, with a thinner piece of (usually figured) wood (in my case flamed Maple) 'dropped' on the top - hence the name (I think that's right but if anyone knows better I'm happy to be corrected); It's the way Les Pauls and most PRS guitar bodies are made. Angel: I've asked Rob for some pics already but I think he feels that since since it's quite early in the process (i.e. bits of wood) he doesn't really see the need to take pix at this stage. I'll nag him about it,and post them as soon as I get them. He's a bit old-school though so we'll see. Wooks: yep, really looking forward to seeing it develop. I have an Eggle Berlin from his time as production manager there, and have played a couple of instruments at his workshop in Wales. The pictures I've seen in reviews really don't do them justice! Stu: thanks for the comments. TBH I'm not completely sure about the details of the neck construction. I know he does several versions - I'll check with him and get back to you. The general theme of the instrument is elegant simplicity if that helps. I need to call him soon to finalise a few details so I'll make a point of asking. Others: I'd endorse the comments about quality of craftsmanship being international. (To be fair, I think the point was raised by a reviewer in one of the magazine articles - Rob himself certainly doesn't see it that way.) I will keep folks up to date as and when I get updates (and if the sister guitar website appears in the meantime I'll copy it all over there).
20. Any further updates on the arrival of the new forums Charic? I seem to remember there's been some problems with your web designer....
21.
Now there's interesting for small gigs & r/h's
Indeed it is - which is pretty much what I used it for. TBH I'm at a bit at a loss to understand why the Jazzers and the EUB Brotherhood aren't all over this. Happy to travel to deliver it too... Records superbly well and would make an excellent studio amp. Am I asking too much for it?
22. Second (and final) price drop. Everybody's entitled to their opinion, but at this price it's a steal IMHO.
