1. Fascinating (and unexpectedly revealing) discussion guys. Any news on timescale for the guitar site?
2. I live in Sutton Coldfield (North Birmingham), but am happy to travel to deliver for a bit of fuel money.
3. I wasn't sure whether to post this here (especially as there's a new sister website on the way for guitar), but here goes... After taking my old Eggle Berlin to Rob in deepest Wales to get some repair work done we got talking guitars, and lo and behold I've wound up ordering a custom build from him. I've asked him to do a build diary as he goes, which I'll post in the Guitar forum when it starts. For now though, here are the specs (some minor details have to be worked out, but most of it is in place):- Custom build - Set Neck Tele (Left Handed): Body: Brazilian Mahogany contoured for waist and forearm Flame Maple drop top Faint tobacco burst kept tight to the edges Masked binding Tobacco burst sides and rear to mask neck joint Neck: Maple 25 1/2” scale set neck with angled headstock Maple fingerboard with walnut inlay dot 22 frets, low / wide profile (dunlop 6130) 43mm width at nut 12” fingerboard radius Depth of neck front to back (20.5mm) Graphite nut Electrics: Rear routed controls Bridge humbucker and 2 x single coils (in-house design) Master volume, push pull for series / parallel on bridge humbucker Master tone, push pull for coil tap on bridge humbucker 5 way selector Layout - standard Side mounted jack socket screw-fixed Telecaster type Hardware: All hardware in gold electro plate. Gotoh 510 series locking tuners Wilkinson vs100 trem Gold control knobs Large gold strap studs Think that covers it. Expected build time is approx. 4 months, so with luck I should have it just in time for Christmas! Price is going to be £2800 - which is quite a lot (but pretty good value for what I'm getting I reckon), but it's almost certainly the last guitar I'll ever buy, and courtesy of a recent PPI windfall from HFC Bank plc I can now afford it. Can't wait!
4.
Chuck it in the "other instruments" section while you're waiting?
Just got the full spec by email so I'll pop it over there.
5. Can't wait! I already have something for the guitar build diary courtesy of Rob Williams.
6. I wasn't aware of the new guitar forum - presumably you'll post something to confirm when it's up & running?
7. I used to help run a Blues summer school that had a succession of visiting American player/tutors, many of whom used tricones. That is a lovely instrument. They do come in various finishes, so the shiny finish is not necessarily the desired look (although you do seem to have made an excellent job of it). +1 on more pics as well please BTW.
8. Bump - pictures coming - honest! (Or you could check out the PJB website): http://www.philjonespuresound.com/products/?id=10
9. For sale is my PJB Flightcase. I've had it for around 3 years, bought from a guy in London who had it from new. It's in immaculate nick - never been gigged (used for practice/rehearsal only) - and comes with it's soft canvas dustcover. Currently on a SpOf at Bass Direct for £650, I'm asking £360 firm. If you know what it is then you'll know what it does, any questions feel free to PM me as always. http://
10. Quick shout for the Streamliner 600 as an alternative to the Shuttle, and a big +1 for Mark at Bass Direct.
11. +1 for Custom Shop jobbies. My Jap Jazz came with them fitted when I bought it. Pricey but awesome!
12. Reminds me of that other cack-handed git Jamie Hislop. Or something.
13.
Or just get something by Genz-Benz
14. Hey Joshua - I see you got yourself a band! Nice going. Plenty of good advice above. The Major's boot camp series is excellent and well worth the time. You could do worse than getting yourself a good tutor - did anything come of your conversation with Dave at the Lefty Bass Bash?
15. Don't know where you live but if you want to check out a good range of the above-named gear you might consider a pilgrimage to Bass Direct near Warwick. Mark is a great guy to deal with and has a great range of gear that he'll be happy for you to try.
16. I've had a query from a parent whose son has a GSR 200L (it's a lefty) that they're trying to sell. They're around £220 new. This one's in very decent nick. I've told mum that I think it should be worth around £120, but that I'd check for her anyway. Any thoughts? (I have some shots of it if anyone wants to see 'em.)
17.
I've plowed all the way thru this thread, and still not sure its not an april fool, and you've just reversed the pics to make it look like you're all left hookers ;-)
Welcome to our life.
