1. I used a DI 100 for years with no issues at all - bass into the jack I/P, XLR (mic lead) out to the desk, phantom power (no batteries needed), built like a brick s***house, dirt cheap... what's not to like?
 2.
You little teaser.
3.
So it's really a semi-semi-acoustic archtop?
I prefer to think of it as a semisolidsemiacoustic - the archtop thing was just a bit of fun.
 4.
You did miss Semi-Acoustic off the list (they're hollow bodied electrics such as the 335).
[pedantry] Not trying to be picky, but the 335 isn't hollow bodied strictly speaking. The hollow bits are just acoustic chambers either side of a massive slab of maple. So, you can think of it as semi acoustic; or you can think of it as a solidbody with acoustic chambers; or you could (stretching the point a bit) call it an archtop as well. [/pedantry] Come to think of it, if I could only rescue one guitar from the flames, it would have to be that one I guess. Maybe I can risk getting a bit singed and pick up the Takamine acoustic as well?
 5.

You're George Formby's long-lost hair and I claim my £5. Nice guitar btw.
 6. Well, until recently I had (in addition to my basses) an electro-acoustic steel-string, an electro-acoustic classical, an archtop Jazz guitar, numerous solidbody electrics, a Gibson 335 (which I mention separately only because it could easily be in any one of 3 categories) and a 5-string Banjo. At one time or another I've used all of them either for teaching or gigging, and in an ideal world I wouldn't want to be without any of them (although circumstances have dictated otherwise); I can't imagine that I'm alone on here in thinking that. Ironically, I'd find it less difficult to specify a single bass (the Sei 5) than a single guitar. Sorry.
 7. I met Phil at the recent Lefty Bass Bash. Although not lefthanded himself he's a big advocate for Lefties. If I knew nothing else about him that would be enough for me. He recently sold one of my basses for me, and got me an excellent price too (over £100 more than I asked for - without a peep - on here). Deal with complete confidence.
 8.
What's the serial number?
Looks like 031003
 9. Just noticed this thread and hoping I can contribute... Here's my Sonus Special. I got it from Deezbar of this forum as a trade for a vintage Jazz bass. I'm not completely sure of it's age, but Dave told me he thinks it's mid-90's (i.e. a very early one). If anybody knows more or can offer advice about it then I'm all ears, as I don't really know much about them (other than the quality of course, which is superb!). 10. 12kHz is as high as I got. I was initially a bit disappointed; but on reflection, at 59 and with a lifetime of loud music behind me (much of it stemming from a time when ear protection was for girlies) I guess I have no right to complain.
 11.
Could be worse, it could be pink! Steve
What, Pink AND Orange?
 12.
talking of which .... am i the only person thinking that access to the sale forums should be ringfenced until you reach a specified number of posts?
This one was covered pretty well a couple of months ago. Sadly I can't find the thread, but it's there somewhere.
 13.
I find most bass players can play to a reasonable standard on guitar but the guitards struggle to play a bass line as such?
Oh dear! Assuming that what you said is what you meant and that it did actually come out the way you wanted it to, I'm not really surprised you're getting some negative reaction. Such sweeping statements only serve to polarise opinion. I was a guitarist for most of my life and have come to bass playing relatively recently, and yet despite it all I somehow managed to run a business teaching both. Go figure!
 14. I had one of these on here a couple of weeks ago. Not an expensive item as it happens, but why would you offer to buy, ask for Paypal details and then nothing? No response to PM's - nothing. Granted it could've been a genuine reason, but to hear nothing at all? I checked the 'buyer' out a few days later and he was online so I knew he was still around. Ah well, live and learn.
 15.
Well, I can read uploaded picture attachments in threads, and this is a picture of my latest squeeze
Nice glasses.....
 16. Any news to report on this topic? I don't use FB so am hoping this might get sorted soon. No criticism - none at all - just curious...
 17.
with the amount of different cakes coming to this debate, we will need an 8x10 on its side to act as a cake table to fit em on! so they still have some use Lol.
...or perhaps on it's back so you could have your drinks shaken but not stirred. Either way, it's nice to be able to put it to some use after all.
 18.
Now you see this where the really big, heated arguments begin. It's tea with cake, not coffee as well you know.
YEEAGHH!!! What are you thinking?
 19.
thought i would bring my experience of big old 8x10s and newer smaller boxes to this conversation. The OP is totally right in one respect, standing infront of your double 8x10 rig is the best thing in the world and your bass just sounds immence. i used to love it! great feeling. Also it doesnt have to be ear bleeding loud just caus its massive, its just ace feeling your sound coming from more than just your knees. On the other hand, i have gone from 8x10 to a single Matamp 4x10 loaded with neo speakers which i have never used before this cab, and i can safely say i will never use a different setup again. Unless someone offers me another one to stick on top!! . The amount of sheer volume and punch you get from one little modern box is amazing and baffles me everytime i plug in. In this day and age you dont NEED a big fridge as a half sized one will do the job and probably better for everybody. But it still feels cool as fook doing it
That is an excellent post if I may say so. Pretty much encapsulates the entire debate. I've never personally lusted after a skyscraper stack any more than I lusted after an 8x12 Marshall stack when I was a guitarist. Aside from that though, I reckon you've captured it nicely.
 20.
I'm intrigued as to what other bass players opinion is of this. I understand that some may prefer combos or smaller amps for many reasons. Perhaps there are other advantages of smaller amps and cabs apart from portability, I just can't think of any!
I'm sorry, I'm confused - do you want to hear other people's opinions or not? Or only the opinions of people who agree with you? As you've just discovered, Basschat is a broad church - not everybody wants a rig the size (and weight) of a brick s***house. If you don't understand why not, perhaps you need to think about it a bit more. And, as has been suggested already, refrain from posting until you do.
 21.
Let the guy have his opinion. It’s right for him, "in his experience" size does matter. Whoa, somebody has a different opinion! Deal with it.
.....which is what I said in my second paragraph. And in any case, without dissenting opinion we wouldn't have a debate - isn't that why we're all here?
 22.
hmmm..I'd like to see ..and hear..you try to get 1000watts of bass out of 2x112's without the cones flying across the room.
Well, between them they're capable of handling 1200w RMS - it's the amp that's the limiting factor in this rig. Saying things like 'I'd like to see it' is beside the point - the simple, verifiable fact is they can and they do. If you don't like the Vanderkley idea, try Barefaced Midgets, which are even lighter and at least as powerful. Technology has moved on since the days of skyscraper cabinets. Get over it. But if you insist, then by all means use 'em - knock yourself out - fill the stage. Just don't start spouting off about guitarists being too loud or having too much ego (both topics that have been raised on BC in recent weeks). Edit: there's a thread running in 'General Discussion' at the mo with several people saying they're happy to plug straight into the DI and let the sound man sort it out. On the 'bigger is better' philosophy, I guess that such people don't really count as bass players then.
 23. This is the same forum where people like to spout off about guitarists who don't want to be parted from their Marshall half-stacks, right? Am I the only one here to sense a touch of irony? Here's the thing - most modern professional players just don't do this sort of thing. As several people have already pointed out modern equipment is smaller, massively lighter and every bit as loud (GB STL 900 + 2xVanderkley 112 MNT = approx 1000w). How anyone can justify more than that in strict musical terms escapes me.
