1.
If you're about to head off to Bass Direct, make sure Mark is back off his hols first (think he's away till the 10th).
Yup. Opens again on Wed 11th.
2. Just bought some Beyer headphones from John. Prompt delivery, excellent packaging and a smooth, trouble-free transaction - that'll do nicely. Cheers John.
3. At the risk of being picky, 1000 notes an hour isn't very fast. It's equivalent to around 17 notes a minute, or one every 4 seconds or so. I reckon even I could manage that!
4. Thinking about it, why not bypass the Genz' preamp and plug straight into the effects return? You'll still need to think about boosting the signal to somewhere near line level though...
5. As others have said, aside from the risk of signal matching issues any half decent preamp is doing much more than amplifying the signal, and for most people is an essential element in the sound. I'm not sure there's any such thing as a clean, neutral amplification chain - especially not if you start talking about valve guitar amps. Phil Jones would probably disagree, but even HiFi amps aren't completely linear. If your heart's set on it then by all means..... but I don't understand why you would have such a nice amp and not want to use it (even after reading your post - twice).
6. Bought an Ibanez tuner from Will yesterday. Overnight delivery, excellent packaging and item in terrific nick. A positive approach made for a simple and straightforward deal, just the way it should be. Cheers mate.
7.
Looks like a great day. Seeing all those left handed basses is messing with my fragile little mind though!
Welcome to our world.
8. Coo! Haven't seen one of those for a while. In normal circumstances I'd say go with £350 as well. Unfortunately the market is a bit depressed at the moment. Unless you really need to shift it quickly it might be better to hang on to it for a while until things pick up a bit.
9. I assume the tuner will run from a PP3 battery? If so then I'll take it but you'll need to post to the Birmingham area. Can you PM me with all-up price?
10.
Great pics. SUCH a hard room to take photos in... LOADS of light coming in from the windows but really dark inside!
Thanks. I used to do a lot of photography at one time, but these days I can't justify the expense of a DSLR so I get by with something that at least does the basics reasonably well (a Coolpix L100).
11. Cheers for the advice Ped. So then: Ped clearly has a gift for photographing people. I tried to focus more on the instruments (but with one or two interesting people - based results as well). Again (and with sincere apologies), I've forgotten many names (but at nearly 59 at least I have some sort of excuse ), so speak up if you want a copy of anything:- First up, a shot of my co-organiser sporting a tasty Overwater prototype Sinistra: Shock Horror! "Mum, can I have one of these for my next birthday please..." My personal favourite - summed up the whole day for me, this one. There you go. I did do a few more, and if anybody wants to see the full set, it's here: http://s1109.photobucket.com/albums/h440/muso392/BLBB2012/ Enjoy!

13. Technical question for someone - I've uploaded my piccies to Photobucket. How do I link to them in such a way that you see the photos themselves rather than the link?
14. Excellent photoset Ped. (I fear mine won't look as good. Also, for some reason I couldn't get the video function to work on mine - d'oh! ) Good of you to make the time to pop along. What a great bunch. Sometimes you get days when things just click into place, and for me today was just such a day (apart from the constant whining about the 'noise' from the venue staff - we're bass players guys; what were you expecting! ). It was a pleasure to spend the day with such a terrific group of people (despite looking a bit miserable in the photos - sorry Steve).
15.
Hope it goes well today folks - I tried the lefty Wood & Tronics that Phil had at BassGear. http://www.bassgear....ce-ej-frost-lh/ Great fun trying to play upside down
Turned out to be even better the correct way round!
16. Right. 10:20 and we're off. To contact me now please use the mobile number listed a few posts up from here.

18.
Cheers Dude.
Cheers mate. Anything that makes my life easier right about now is good.
19.
Hi My printer is playing up. Do you have spares of the form Patch emailed? See you shortly
Don't worry about it. I've already done your name tag!
20. Last chance to ask questions folks. I'll be leaving shortly after 10am, and will pop back to the laptop from time to time before then. If you have any travel issues or technical queries now's the time to ask. I think we'll have plenty of amplification (Markbass, Barefaced, PJB, GenzBenz, Roland, plus whatever amps Phil brings from Bassgear), so if you're not sure whether to load up your 8x10 probably best to leave it at home and save yourself the hernia. If you have a decent set of studio headphones though, that might be an idea.... See you there - don't be late or you'll miss the food!
21. I've used PJB's for a few years. As has been said, great sound (which makes them excellent for practice/rehearsal/recording) but lacks oomph in a live situation. Having said that, I got a chance to try out my Flightcase with one of the new 250w powered cabs a couple of weeks ago at Bass Direct and it certainly didn't lack power - 400w and felt like all of that (properly designed powered cabs do seem to punch above their weight against passive gear IMHO, which I think is because the designers are able to match the various system components so as to get the absolute best from them). In the event though I've gone for a Streamliner 600/Vanderkley rig for about the same money as a Flightcase/PB300 (a little less actually), as it just sounded better to me in a back/back situation, and allows me to add a second cab as and when I feel the need for a lot less than the cost of a second PB300!
