1. Last minute travel information in case you're not sure - all roads lead to M40 j.15. It's a big - BIG - roundabout. Look for the exit marked A429 (Warwick). About 100m off the roundabout heading towards Warwick. Look for the entrance to the Porridge Pot / Holiday Inn site on your right (don't put too much faith in your satnav once you get this close - mine took us into a field behind the site!). Any problems, call me on 07909 592469. Meet & greet at 12:00 noon - food up front. Rest of the programme will be set out from there. See you there guys, ANDY
2. Shame you guys can't make it. We'll try to organise the next one a bit further North. Piccies and vids in due course.
3. Thanks for a great review. Just paid for my 600 a couple of days ago and will be auditioning it at the upcoming Lefty Bass Bash in Warwick. My Sei 5er sounds as good as I've ever heard it, and for some reason it brings out the character of the (recently acquired) Sonus more than anything else I've yet heard it through. All this with flat eq through a Vanderkley 112 EXT cab (hoping to add a second at some point to add a little oomph). I cannot wait to get this thing home! Edit: a word of praise for Mark at Bass Direct. Hugely knowledgeable and a thoroughly nice man who loves his job. I can't speak highly enough of how accomodating he's been in regard to the Bass Bash.
4. One of my personal favourites: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7R_x8ihC80 Or perhaps this from Guthrie Goven (with a tasty little solo-ette from brother Seth in the middle): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5xa4Lqbenw
5. I'm sure you'll be fine. Couldn't really have come at a worse time! See you there.
6. Again, I wouldn't want to spoil the fun, but if it's a traditional type of gig with families, kids, etc., do you really need the aggravation?
7.
The banjo keep calling to me. How easy are they to play after 4 string bass? Very tempted to pick up a cheap one and give it a go.
Depends what you get. There are several types. 5-string is probably the hardest but also the one to have if you're after that proper Bluegrass sound IMHO. 6-string is, I would say, more like a guitar with a banjo sound. 4-string is more of a strumming instrument (by design at least) - commonly used in (for example) dixieland jazz bands. I don't know much about bass banjos, but others here clearly do. I think I've got that right. If I haven't then somebody is sure to correct me.
8. I've had a good look around myself using a variety of ingeniously positioned mirrors and a pencil torch, and can confirm that everything's peachy (including my nipples). Next?
9. Ooops! I seem to have walked into the wrong room - I was expecting a conversation about the BC Blog. This seems to be the embarrassing confessions thread. My mistake.
10. A thought has occurred to me guys - the Bash is in a pub, and although we have our own area it's not a separate room. If we turn things up too much early on we risk getting complaints from people having their lunch. By about 2pm it should have settled down so we can let loose a bit more. I will have the use of a very nice set of pro-spec enclosed headphones, so that if you want to crank it early on without annoying people you'll be able to. If anybody else has a set with a standard 1/4" stereo jack or jack adaptor, it might be a good idea to bring them. We'll make an announcement on the day, but I'm going to suggest the following format for the day:- 12:00 - 12:30 - meet & greet, food!; 12:30 - 2:00 - quiet amp/headphone session (where you get to know the basses people have); 2:00 onward - volume up. If there's any change to this we'll let you know on the day. See you there!
11.
Thanks. That all sounds fine. I'll have a think when I can come up and I'll get back to you by personal message.
Excellent. I'll put it on hold for you.
12. Bump for another price drop. It won't go lower than this anytime soon guys. Make me an offer.
13.
Lift offered from Bromley area (SE London/North Kent) Patch is using my LMII head on the day so I'll need to be there for pretty much the whole session. So, I'll be leaving Bromley at approx 9.30 and will be getting back around 19.30 (Sunday afternoon M40/M25 traffic permitting). I'll have plenty of room in the car for basses and bassist(s)... Cheers Graham
You may want to drop Rogerstodge a PM. I think he's coming from Dartford (which will be on your way I would think).
14. Final price reductions folks. The remaining items have to go. Make me an offer!
15.
I'm in Eastbourne so not really practical for me to get up there to try out It sounds all good and the price is fine so think I will go ahead and buy. How do you want to proceed?
I can't really post it as I have nothing to put it in but would be happy to meet up somewhere to do the deal. The High Wycombe area looks to be around halfway so perhaps we can look for a place in that general vicinity. It would need to be a cash sale and I'll need to add a bit for fuel - say £15? (still less than it would cost by courier or post). I have plenty of time on my hands and am in no great hurry, but can't do this Sunday. If this is ok I'll look for somewhere to meet and you let me know when you can do the trip. Failing that I could get closer to you but it would cost more in fuel of course. p.s. it might be a good idea to do the rest of this transaction using the Personal Messaging (PM) system. Andy
16.
Hi, I'm definetly interested. Where are you? Would be good to try first if possible. You've replaced the reverb - what's the new one? John
It's a direct replacement (i.e. Hammond), fitted by a qualified electrical engineer. I'm in Sutton Coldfield (Northeast Birmingham). You'd be welcome to come round and give it a run.
17. The good news keeps on coming folks! Bass Direct and BassGear have both very kindly agreed to donate some stuff to the cause, so............... WE'RE GONNA HAVE A RAFFLE! (No basses though - I asked already.)
18. Hey guys. Is there anybody coming from the Northwest (near or passing near Manchester)? I ask because I have somebody wanting some of the PA kit I have for sale. It's not economic to post it and it's a bit to far to deliver, but if someone's going that way.... It's small (single rack space). Anybody?
19. Actually I've had a thought about that. I think we've got someone coming to the Lefty Bass Bash from your area. Perhaps I can get him to deliver it for me.... Leave it with me and I'll get back to you once I've had a chance to ask around.
20. Nobody? I'll be back in an hour or two to cancel it and chuck the pedal.
21. Shades and cans? Good grief Charlie Brown! Welcome to the fold. Can't help you with the mags, but someone surely will.
22. Granted that a lot of that early RocknRoll stuff was a bit, erm, questionable (didn't Chuck Berry actually get convicted of doing something with a girl in her mid-teens? - whilst Jerry Lee Lewis notably didn't IIRC), and pretty much anything by Glitter is a no-no, I can't help feeling we're getting a bit squeamish around these parts. I always thought that offensive and/or explicit lyrics were a perfectly acceptable part of the rock business - I played in a function band that did a lot of corporate and wedding gigs. We had 'Teenage Dirtbag' in our set for ages, and audiences loved it. We never, ever got a single complaint about it. Part of it is knowing what the audience is likely to tolerate of course, but even so.... If you took away all the songs with offensive lyrics just because they had offensive lyrics, most adolescents of the last 50 years would have had nothing to listen to at all!
