Even without the comment from SeiBass I'd have been suspicious of this: 1. Looks to me like a bog standard 90's Fender HSC. 2. The headstock 'logo' looks, just, wrong. 3. It's hard to tell from the slightly blurred photos (which is a bit of a problem in itself) but as far as I can see the quality simply isn't up to it. 4. The price - sub £500 for a 'vintage and rare' Sei? I don't think so. Later edit: look at the back of the headstock. FFS!

Amplifiers in the home.

PJB's for me. Small, light, and rather handsome if I say so myself... I don't display them as such, but they are pretty easy on the eye, and as working tools I could do a lot worse. -
I have emailed Arni from Arni's lefthanded site to tell him what we are hoping to do, he has 60 leftys from england registered with him let alone all the others. I think we should be able to get a nice little crowd!
So, er, we'll need a big room then. See.... I told you I was good at this stuff!

Tele guitars with the ashtray bridges?
leftybassman392 replied to MacDaddy's topic in General Discussion
Being picky, the bridge itself isn't the ashtray, that's the optional cover which goes over the bridge to stop any knarled hands & such, AFAIK it's only some of the CS guitars that come with them fitted now, though you can pick one up generally easily on Ebay or a Fender dealer. Only downside is that you won't then be able to pick over the pickup. I've found that the only time it can get painful is if you do a lot of right hand muting, palm muting, then a saddle screw on the E can get a bit sore into the heel of your hand; I could of course remove it & file it a bit shorter; but I've never got a round tuit.
x2. If you had an actual ashtray fitted you wouldn't be having this conversion (but by the same token you wouldn't be able to play close to the bridge either...) -
Oooh, I like the way this is going! Once we get a bit further down the road, it might be a good idea for people to share transport. I live in Birmingham, but if it ends up as an away gig for me I can certainly help someone out. As for organisation, well I helped to run an international Blues Summer School based in Northampton for a number of years. I have time on my hands.....

There's plans afoot to have a lefty bass bash in the New Year, where you'll get a chance to play some top notch instruments belonging to other members. Watch this space. Well... not THIS space, but you know what I mean.

fretted to fretless (conversion)

If you don't want to do it yourself, you're not that far from London. A trip to the Bass Gallery in Camden might be in order. They won't charge you the earth, and will do as good a job as anyone in the business. -
Here's a track from one of my all-time favourite albums - Beyond the Missouri Sky by Charlie Haden & Pat Metheny. Rock players will know the chord sequence... just not done like this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtSpiF5q-Cg

Is it ok to supplement your list?

Errrm... Can I phone a friend? Edit: I asked my friend Mr. Google. Interesting. I used to like C... Oops. Nearly spilled the beans.

Steve Lawson - Why I've Taken My Music Off Spotify
leftybassman392 replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
Whatever the rights and wrongs of this (and I make no claim to expertise since I don't use Spotify), there's a simple truth behind the way major labels think (or any large corporation for that matter), and anyone planning to deal with them (or not) should memorise the following and chant it as a mantra whenever they feel the need of a compass to guide them: (With apologies to the Terminator movie franchise): They exist to make money for themselves. It's what they do. It's all they do. -
I was in the business for around 15 years until my enforced retirement last year. It helped to pay for a nice house to live in, all the instruments & amps I could ever possibly need (and them some! ), a pretty well equipped project studio (as those who bought it all when I sold it off last autumn will testify); and the current toy of choice has a Porsche badge on the nose. If I had it to do again, the only thing I would change would be to up my tuition fees a little and haggle a bit harder for gig fees. Apart from that, not much.

Note to OP: I wasn't serious about the sofa, just a bit concerned that you might be submerging under the weight of such a large quantity of passionately argued but conflicting opinions (something we seem to have in endless quantities on Basschat! ). It seems my fears were groundless. You appear well capable of making intelligent decisions all on your own (something we don't appear to have quite as much of... ). Go for it, and enjoy it!

Haven't we done this recently? I know topics get recycled a lot on BC.....
he was probably just trolling. Judging by the response to this thread, I think he's done a pretty good job.
Either that or the weight of all this 'good advice' has scared the living sh*t out of him, and he's hiding behind the nearest sofa.

Jeez there's some hard bitten opinions on this thread! Here's my perspective (that you can choose to consider or ignore as you wish). I've loved music of all kinds for as long as I can remember. I got my first guitar at the age of 12 and have played, on and off, ever since. When I was in my early 20's I had a big decision to make. I'd been offered a place at a music college, but because I was also really good at Maths and Sciences I did 'A' levels and got offered a place at Uni studying what ended up as Maths and Philosophy. After that I did a PGCE and spent the next 15 years teaching Maths. I don't regret having done that, but about 15 years ago I began to wonder if I'd made the right decision, so I quit a good job as head of I.T. at a fairly big school, spent a year studying at the (then called) Guitar Institute, and went out into the world as a musician. For some years life was very hard financially, but I've never regretted doing it. I never made a huge amount of money, and a lot of my bread & butter income came from being a private tutor. But I was happy getting paid for something I loved doing. Moral: you have a huge decision to make; be sure that whatever you do decide, make sure it's for reasons that you'll be able to live with in 20 or 30 years' time. Despite what lots of people will have you believe (and while nobody wants to be in poverty), money isn't everything.

It would be good to know how the various other bass bashes around the country are managed. Rather than trying to reinvent the wheel we should perhaps look to the wealth of experience in this area that there must be here on BC. Edit: I've written and scrubbed several lines of thought in the last couple of minutes, on the grounds that if we're going to do it properly we need to start at the beginning. We need to get some ideas from other organisers before we do too much more I feel.

Any thoughts on a venue - I don't mean specific location (well mostly not, although somewhere in the Midlands would seem to make sense), but type of venue?

I'm in. I'm in Birmingham as well (which just so happens to be fairly central.....) I could bring: Sei Original headless 5, Newly acquired Zon Sonus 4, Regenerate Axiom 4 (highish-end active Jazz clone - there's a link to some pics in my sig., Regenerate Heritage Tribute '55 4 (Early Telebass clone - this and the Axiom can be found at the bottom of this linked page: http://regenerategui...om/?page_id=498 ), MIJ White Jazz 4 with custom shop pickups. PJB amps - Briefcase + Flightcase. Yorick, have you spoken to Deezbar about this - I reckon he'd love it (and he just so happens to have more basses than the rest of us put together!). Or I can give him a buzz.

Can't read too much into no email reply, but 'text not received' looks a bit odd (unless the account's been closed for some reason).

I have too many basses, but don't know which to sell (if any)
leftybassman392 replied to dc2009's topic in Bass Guitars
'Too many' is such an emotive phrase don't you think? Better to think of it as 'flexibility', or perhaps 'a healthy choice of tone options'. Having said that, I have to fess up and admit that I'm selling some of mine as I don't play in public any more. I wouldn't be doing it if it was any other reason.
