1. I have no experience of other loopers, but love mine. Yes it has loads of space to load in your backing tracks! It's a bit inflexible on the hoof! I love mine for practising and occasional unaccompanied solo, but can't use it for band playing.
2. Ooohh - digging holes in your bass. Not for me ....
3.
I've never seen another DB with one of these - does anyone else out there have one?
I had one, and it was hands down the best DB pickup I have ever seen. I loved it. After about 5 years it started to "go off" - initially starting to become a little middy - then muddy - then feedbacky - then buzzy. Despite trying, I couldn't get any advice off B-Band, or the local music shop where I bought it, or their UK distributer. It's such a pity when it was so awesome, but I didn't fancy replacing a £500 pickup every 5 years - especially when the manufacturer couldn't be bothered showing any interest in their customers. Recently I bought a Full Circle. It isn't as good as the B-band, but it is still excellent.
4. I've posted this before, but I upgraded the preamp on my mid-nineties Streamer to a Aguilar OP1 a few years back. The results were brilliant and i can't recommend it enough. The Aguilar is a tight fit (it has 2 batteries compared to the Warwick single battery), but it does squeeze in. I paid a bloke that knew what he was doing which was worthwhile for me. But then again, I'm both slow and hamfisted! Go for it!
5. Our local Borders had it's last day today and were practically giving stuff away (including the furniture). Managed to pick up Bass Player for 50p, which although it is thin and a shadow of it's old self, was probably reasonable value!!
6. How does the Big One sound in Scouseland?
7. Very, very pleased with my Full Circle - accurate reproduction and no feedback probs. I use it with a Fishman Pro pre/EQ. Folk speak highly of the Realist. Ive never tried one, but the common problem of it "dying" and reports that it is a little more feedback prone put me off.
8.
...any body who has done a prostitue gig standing up for 3 hours solid will be able to agree!
Viagra?
9. Can anyone here recommend the Mono? Like others have reported, the Comfort Strapp "bounce" is too much for me. Does Mono suffer the same problem?
10. Just got in from One Night of Queen - Gary Mullen and The Works tribute. A mate got me a ticket - I didn't think that a tribute band in a starchy theatre would be much fun. How wrong I was - awesome gig. Band were tight as you like and Gary Mullen (the tribute Freddie) was very cool. Bass player is called Billy Moffat - very musical, great sound - superb. Anyone else seen them?
11. Is the Big One still moving?
12. Bonkers!
13. Only managed to get there just before 6pm. (They still charged £23 though!!) Was glad to catch Nathan East. He'll never be remembered for pushing boundaries, but I bet he has a few quid in the bank! Excellent and very musical! He didn't inspire me to practice more bass, but I'm working on singing chops! +1 for the volume/racket problem on the trade stands. Even the bar was a bit uncomfortable when I first got there - normally a place of peaceful sanctuary! Lots of lovely interesting stuff though! Although it was late, Mike Issac and Ollie Collins were both great too! Highlight was meeting Ped!
14. Take That at the MEN last year. Was given tickets and dragged, convinced it would be pap. In fact it was the best "stadium" gig I have ever seen - Awesome sound, show and performance. Now I love Take That!
15.
quicksteps... any medium up swing tempo e.g fly me to the moon..
Fly Me To The Moon as a Waltz or Quickstep!
16. A bit of compromise for me with amps/speakers having been from very clean EA rig (excellent for upright and a bit weak for BG) to an Ampeg rig (boomy and feedbacky upright and awesome BG). Currently using a GK1001 head and EA speakers, but looking forward to trying barefaced stuff and a shuttle9. Full Circle with Fishman Pro is great at any volume. B-Band statement was my best upright sound ever .... until it died! Bassbone is useful too. Owen knows - practice would help too. When your fingers are in good shape, you'll probably sound awesome through a Maplins cheapest pickup and a cardboard box!
17. Bought Pete's G&L this afternoon - he delivered it to my doorstep this evening. A very smooth transaction and a lovely bloke. Thank you!
18. Superb!
19. Great - glad to hear it's working out for you.
20.
I though everyone would be chomping at the bit to try it !
I'm totally chomping in Stockport, but have no chance of collecting it. Is it postable? Or anyone halfway North of Corby wanting to try?
21.
'Ahem'
Doh! Never thought to look "Off Topic"! (Would have thought a lesson in musicianship and bass fireworks was very much "On Topic") I'll get me' coat
22. I can't believe no-one posted about the gig in London. If it was half as good as the one I saw this week in Milan, it must have been awesome. Not suprised to hear you lovin that DVD!
23. Not too sure if anyone has posted reviews/comments about the Shepherds Bush gig - apologies if I'm reviving the wrong thread .....! Cetera's Mr Big heads-up fell at the same time as a RyanAir £1 flights promotion - so we ended up seeing Mr Big in Milan last night (for less than the cost of petrol to London!). The gig was absolutely awesome. Billy Sheehan is a HUGE source of energy - obviously a technically amazing bassist, but also a great listener and supportive team player. As well as a thoroughly entertaining show, Sheehan, Torpey, Martin and Gilbert gave a lesson in high class musicianship. If they tour again, we'll most definately be going - UK or wherever!!
24. I went to one of Billy Sheehan's Ampeg clinics in Manchester in the early nineties. Queued to say hello afterwards, but by the time we got to the big man I was literally tongue tied. Fortunately my brother came along too who organised the short conversation on my behalf: " Hi Bill - his name's Guy" - "Nice to meet you Guy - I'll sign this photo for you ...Bye!" Still cringing at the memory some 18 years later!
25. Arghh! Didn't even know about this particular classifieds site. You're not helping with gas at all!
