1. Wow! What exactly did you do to it to get that? Mine has moved on a bit...
2.
I'm quite obsessed by weight. My band plays 2 to 2 1/2 hour sets and does 4 hour rehearsals. That's a long time to be stood with a 10/11 lb bass hanging off your shoulder. My current favourite bass is a mere 7lb 3oz..
That's about it for me, if it's a short gig I take my weighty Fender Jazz, longer gigs and lengthy rehearsals I take a lighter option. I even found the weight of the Fender on my leg during a sit down pit band gig too much by the end of the week. Another thing to consider is carrying it around. I do a lot of festival gigs where you have to park your car a mile from the stage and when the promised land rover doesn't turn up you carry your kit in hot sun/pouring rain.
3. I should be able to make it.
4.
Looks a nice piece of wood
Thanks! It's cherry You won't see that but though! It will have another piece (just as nice) on top to cover the chamber that I routed out today: The bottom end is lop sided, this is because once it has a strap button the two sides will be equal and it will stand up straight if leaned against an amp.
5. My lightest bass is my bitsa fretless at 8lb. I'm working on a headless bass that should clock in at 4.5lb Apart from acoustics , Ashborys and ukes who's got the lightest bass?
6. Slowly taking shape...
7. I'll be there if I can, available most Sundays apart from 8th Nov.
8. I'm using cherry for the body because I already have some!
9. Job done , the replacement came the next day and works a treat. Huge thumbs up to Laney service department.
10. It's only an 8ohm, I need (and have ordered) a 16. (for about half the cost )
11. Plywood mock up to test for neck dive and tweak ergonomics. I may take a bit more off the top edge as this seems to make a good thumb rest. Artist's impression of bass in action:
12. Laney have come up with the goods. They don't use that exact speaker but they are sending me the one they use in that type of amp now. Cost including VAT and postage £27.12.
13. Both companies have replied!!!!! Laney want the serial number and Celestion say that it's discontinued but have recommended an alternative. It looks like I will get a solution. edit - both of Celestion's recommendations are only 8ohms, I'll see what Laney come up with. L
14. I am planning on a detachable lower body section for comfortable on the knee playing in pit band gigs.
15. I've emailed Laney but "due to the very high volume of queries we cannot always guarantee a response" I'll email Celestion too, see who (if anyone) gets back to me first.
16. It's all about minimalism , it's got to be as small as possible. The previous version had some curves and it ends up increasing the size. It's the classic cricket bat for me.
17. I need a new speaker for my Laney RB7, I've extracted the dud one and it's a 10" Celestion , on the back end it says BL10-70. The Celestion website doesn't have such a thing. It's a 16 ohm speaker , also on it is : T549A ,10 LR and 50. The amp is 300W Any ideas?
18. Apologies for absence, I'm back now. You may remember my compact lightweight festival bass? (a cheap , disposable and easy to transport bass for festival gigs) It ended up (after several re-workings) looking like this: Time passes, I gigged with it a lot over the last year or two but I can certainly do better. I've bought a headless kit and I'm working on it's higher quality and less disposable replacement. I'm experimenting with body shapes , I'll make a plywood mock up before actually getting wood (fnar fnar)
19.
Hope so. I was a bit put off by the Wembley gig - just the size and scale of the place. I always think the 'head should be up close and very personal!
It will be!
20. Pity I won't be able to watch it. ... Because I'll be there!!! (yes I'm gloating) I saw them in 1982 really looking forward to seeing them again.
21. Don't forget Bursting Out, hearing his take on some of the earlier material is interesting too.
22.
Knowing when you last changed your strings? You'd think there would be an app for that. Now, that would make you a nerd!
This is my phone, what is an "app"?
23. But seriously folks... it's about giving the best performance, if I can get my preferred feel and tone without aggravation I'll play and sound better.
24.
The awkward breakup stuff is what makes affairs with beautiful women passionate!* Pudding after pudding gets boring... *At least that's what I remember from about 20 years ago.
Passion then pudding, passion then pudding etc I can cope.
