1. I'll be there if I can, available most Sundays apart from 8th Nov.
2. I'm using cherry for the body because I already have some!
3. Job done , the replacement came the next day and works a treat. Huge thumbs up to Laney service department.
4. It's only an 8ohm, I need (and have ordered) a 16. (for about half the cost )
5. Plywood mock up to test for neck dive and tweak ergonomics. I may take a bit more off the top edge as this seems to make a good thumb rest. Artist's impression of bass in action:
6. Laney have come up with the goods. They don't use that exact speaker but they are sending me the one they use in that type of amp now. Cost including VAT and postage £27.12.
7. Both companies have replied!!!!! Laney want the serial number and Celestion say that it's discontinued but have recommended an alternative. It looks like I will get a solution. edit - both of Celestion's recommendations are only 8ohms, I'll see what Laney come up with. L
8. I am planning on a detachable lower body section for comfortable on the knee playing in pit band gigs.
9. I've emailed Laney but "due to the very high volume of queries we cannot always guarantee a response" I'll email Celestion too, see who (if anyone) gets back to me first.
10. It's all about minimalism , it's got to be as small as possible. The previous version had some curves and it ends up increasing the size. It's the classic cricket bat for me.
11. I need a new speaker for my Laney RB7, I've extracted the dud one and it's a 10" Celestion , on the back end it says BL10-70. The Celestion website doesn't have such a thing. It's a 16 ohm speaker , also on it is : T549A ,10 LR and 50. The amp is 300W Any ideas?
12. Apologies for absence, I'm back now. You may remember my compact lightweight festival bass? (a cheap , disposable and easy to transport bass for festival gigs) It ended up (after several re-workings) looking like this: Time passes, I gigged with it a lot over the last year or two but I can certainly do better. I've bought a headless kit and I'm working on it's higher quality and less disposable replacement. I'm experimenting with body shapes , I'll make a plywood mock up before actually getting wood (fnar fnar)
13.
Hope so. I was a bit put off by the Wembley gig - just the size and scale of the place. I always think the 'head should be up close and very personal!
It will be!
14. Pity I won't be able to watch it. ... Because I'll be there!!! (yes I'm gloating) I saw them in 1982 really looking forward to seeing them again.
15. Don't forget Bursting Out, hearing his take on some of the earlier material is interesting too.
16.
Knowing when you last changed your strings? You'd think there would be an app for that. Now, that would make you a nerd!
This is my phone, what is an "app"?
17. But seriously folks... it's about giving the best performance, if I can get my preferred feel and tone without aggravation I'll play and sound better.
18.
The awkward breakup stuff is what makes affairs with beautiful women passionate!* Pudding after pudding gets boring... *At least that's what I remember from about 20 years ago.
Passion then pudding, passion then pudding etc I can cope.
19.
The awkward breakup stuff is what makes affairs with beautiful women passionate!* Pudding after pudding gets boring... *At least that's what I remember from about 20 years ago.
I just want passion and puddings!
20.

there is a certain irony in using a Venn diagram to demonstrate someones nerdiness!
21.
This idea of keeping notes so you know in advance that when strings will die can only lead to one thing, boredom. How will you ever know what dull strings sound like again if you never hear them as dull. Life has its ups and downs. It is part of what makes life so interesting. When you have a bad gig/practice with bad strings you then have the new strings to look forward to. Perfection is not perfect. Just concentrate on the playing.
I know what dull strings sound like -dull! Why go through the bad gigs/practices at all? It will be like having a series of passionate affairs with beautiful women but with none of the awkward breakup stuff in between! Pudding after pudding even if you don't eat your meat!
22.
I bet he doesn't restring his own basses either.
Probably doesn't pay for his strings!
23.
I have a txt file on my music PC that records some info about my bases - their serial numbers, date of last string change, what strings, any major mods I've done, any big alteration in their set-ups, nothing exhaustive I don't think I have an awful memory !
I was going to use pen and paper!
24.
I bet Lemmy doesn't have a bass spreadsheet. In fact, I bet he doesn't have a computer.
He has a guitar tech.
25.
I've only got three basses so it's not hard. And two of them are strung with La Bella flats, so that's the next 20 years sorted, then. My one bass that is strung with rounds will be getting new strings about every six weeks as I'm experimenting with different rounds. In any case it's easier to figure out when rounds need changing, you just don't get that zing after a while, you can hear when that happens. Sorry, I'm coming on like I'm down on the idea - I'm not, it's just not practical for me. Jesus Christ! You're right, that IS tragic... (your word, not mine!) I'm guessing you don't have kids..?
No, not at all just trying to explain my reasons for doing this. Yes, you can hear when rounds die but I'd rather head it off than struggle through another rehearsal on dead strings because I hadn't seen it coming. I use four basses, three have rounds and my fretless has black nylons so it won't require much record keeping.
