1. Headstock looks a bit Guildesque to me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWgwTe01kMU
2. ...and we spend so much time worrying about string gauges, active/passive? ,set up,nut widths , which amp for metal? is plywood any good for bass bodies? etc etc ....
3. Jeremy Stacey on Drums , nice guy, I went to his studio in London and he made us a very nice espresso. (not often I get to name drop so please forgive me. not as glammerous as it sounds I was there to remove a grand piano that he'd sold) Can't say for certain but it could be where that video was shot.
4. I found that Fender 45-105's had a lower tension than the same gauge D'Adario strings.
5. I fitted a George Foreman Grille to my amp and lost all the fatness from it's tone. BTW - The word cheap is also an old English noun meaning a market place. This survives in place names such as "Cheapside" or even "Chipping Sodbury".

7. What i always enjoy at this time of year is the inevitable end of the news story about "local band/singer/school kids record song that's tipped for Christmas No1!!!" The news report usually features a contrived performance of the band to three bored pensioners in a local pub.Band and song never heard of again. A friend of mine is a DJ on local radio in Brighton, he's running a campaign to get Roachford's Cuddly Toy to No1.
8.
I've got a Behringer DDI thingy as an emergency back up in case I need to DI straight to the desk. perhaps I could take it along, not plug it in and make a bit of a show of activating the "trans-modulating tone pump".
Be careful not to tear a hole in the space/time continuum.
9. Probably just too punchy sounding in the recording for her, just tell you you'll turn up your pitch deviating ecto-phlanging phase disruptortonic doo dah pedal in future and carry on as before.
10. I always thought this looked cool , fancied building a bitsa tribute but I really do prefer a jazz neck
11. Disco Infernal - the logo features the siluette of John Travolta on a background of flames.(I know, more 70's than 80's) I keep potential band names just in case , you are also welcome to Celtic Deathray or The Slotin Excursion A friend of mine was in a band in a similar situation, the rest of the band agreed (in secret) that the next thing my friend said was the name of the band. They ended up being called something like Not Now John, which isn't half as bad as it could have been.
12. If Rickenbacker see themselves as an elite brand then why would they want to make a budget model? Do Rolls Royce or Ferrari offer budget models?
13. Count me in, either date should be ok, I only suggested February to give a bit longer for the Christmas dust to settle.
14. In whatever situation if you agree to do something, you should do just that.
15. From what I remember of previous ones, there is usually lots of debate about where it should be , the first was in Shafetsbury, the second was probably there too , back room of a pub. I'll PM Old Slapper. The previous ones were both on a Sunday lunchtime.
16. Old Slapper was the organizer of previous ones, I'd be interested if it was put on again.
17. D'Addario seem to come out of this pretty much unscathed. These at £13 a set do the job for me : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DAddario-EXL165-Bass-Guitar-Strings-45-105-Bass-Strings-/231085511981?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&hash=item35cdc5152d
18. Will this so called "pace maker" be able to keep up with him?
19. The reverse Jazz was the original idea, it's surprisingly comfortable, the prototype was to test this idea. In the end to solve problems of accessing the upper end of the neck (not that I even go that far up on fretless) I ended up re-designing the Precision body. The second prototype (with plywood body of a Tanglewood bass and plywood scratchplate) was so good that I'm still playing it now.
20. My prototype bass made from 18mm low grade ply: In a blind test you wouldn't have known what this bass was made from! The only serious limitation was that because the body was only 18mm thick it started to bend!
21. My fretless was made using a cheap plywood body, works fine , sounds great. I even made a prototype out of a sheet of 18mm ply, even recorded with it.If you've they tried a plywood bass and it sounded crap the chances are that it was a crappy bass all round. As I see it (and hear it) most materials for making bass bodies don't make an enormous difference, yes, some will give greater sustain, brilliance etc, yes some will give a duller tone, less sustain etc, but 90% of possible things you could use do the job perfectly well and I include plywood in that 90%.
22. There's more than one video if him on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2nWviXpgrc I'm out.
23. It made me feel sea sick.
24. I've got an almost identical one, great bass. The basses are around £120 new and for that price they have to be made in China (could be Vietnam but certainly nowhere that pays the UK minimum wage), the building on their website is just a warehouse. Note that there are no pictures of the manufacturing process or workshops. They made a cracking MM style bass too.
25. Thanks for sharing, I'm looking to put something similar together soon.
