Seriously considering that option.

Fixed thanks 🙂 I think it was only there since July 🤣

Already corrected! (And ordered) If that doesn't work I will try Timetech, go back and stop myself fitting a dud in the first place 😅

Thanks Andy, I'll check out tone tech. Dom

It was a dual action truss rod, headstock end adjusted. The nut seems to have come off and is inside the retaining tube. I pushed it out of the nut end by hitting the heal end. Anyway it's out now, I just wanted a recommendation for a reliable replacement.

The fretboard is bound and as it's 100 year old oak it probably wouldn't survive the process. I'm only going to buy one that stands a chance of fitting. Someone here did the same on a bass so I'm confident that it can be done.

I've been working on a g****r and it was nearly finished when I discovered that the truss rod I fitted was faulty. It broke the first time I gave it a quarter turn. A huge amount of work potentially down the drain. I drilled into the pickup cavity and managed to push it out. Now I need to try and get a new one in. Any recommendations?

In this case it almost certainly means backing vocals, there is a parallel universe where it means boiling vomit.

The drummer is in three bands , guitarist one is in three, guitarist two in at least two! Essentially it was just a misunderstanding amplified by communication breakdown. All sorted now.

Some people in are shocked to hear that the song "A horse with no name" isn't by Neil Young and that George Harrison's "I got my mind set on you" is a cover.

Not such a jaw dropper but Mrs in Dorset is a big fan of both Black Sabbath and Jethro Tull...she had no idea that Tony Iommi was briefly in Tull.
-
Better only in my somewhat biased opinion 😉 . The two bands are both do Americana but have different styles, sounds and approaches.

Me too! This has taken months to resolve , at first they were unaware that there was a problem and then they were too embarrassed to do anything about it. I sent the guitarist I strongly worded text yesterday as I had got so frustrated by their lack of communication and that seems to have done the trick. It's not all bad as my other band had been treading water for some time and this has been a real wake up call for us, we are back rehearsing regularly and new material is taking shape....and if course we had a great festival gig to aim for.

I did get an apology and their side of the story this morning which I have accepted. I had got frustrated by their lack of communication after what felt like a collosal slap in the face which made a bad situation feel even worse. We are friends again.

Yes, that's about where I am, I just needed to rant it out to move on .

Possibly some perceived rivalry/professional jealousy from the singer. I front a similar (but much better) band and he possibly didn't see want me to asserting undue influence on his baby. It's nothing we couldn't have talked about and in all of my many previous appearances with them I'd made a point of standing at the back and keeping it solid ,with four guys at the front of the stage there's already plenty going on. Whatever the reason it could have been handled very differently.

A long story that I'll try to keep short... Firstly if anyone reading this is the "other guy", I fully understand that you are entirely innocent in this and I hold no grievance against you. There is a band I have known for donkey's years, I've depped for them more times than I can remember and know their set inside out. Two of the band members were also in another band with me for ten years and I was also involved in a band with the singer for a while. I regarded them as friends. When the original bass player quit I was slightly narked to hear that they had replaced him with "X". I was only slightly narked because I had relocated a bit further away from their centre of operations and he's was already know to most of the band. "X" tragically died before he'd even had a chance to learn the set and I was contacted to stand in for an upcoming gig. At the rehearsal for the gig I asked if they had a permanent replacement in mind and when they said no I said I would like to do it. Myself and several band members (it's a seven piece) had a conversation about me joining, apparently the only reason they hadn't asked me before was that I'd moved further away and they didn't think I'd want to come all that way to rehearse . I said that as I am still in the area three days a week that wouldn't be a problem. We discussed potential rehearsal regimes and new songs we might learn. I was in the band. A couple of weeks later we played the gig to a great response and went our separate ways. I didn't hear from anyone regarding getting together again but a COVID restrictions were still going on and no more gigs were booked I wasn't concerned. Imagine my surprise when I found out (by accident) that they had auditioned and hired "another guy". (A total stranger who lives an hour away) My partner had even been trying to get them some gigs , she even succeeded! Thankfully gig only came through after I discovered that I wasn't in fact in the band (we told the organisers that they were no longer available but my other band could do it!) I've tried to find out what happened and most of the members involved in the conversation claim not to remember it. One who does sent me an apology but rest all come out with the same excuse "we didn't know that you wanted to join the band , we thought you just wanted to dep" As far as I'm concerned they are either lying ,suffering from dementia or there's something I'm not being told. I didn't even want the job now after that slap in the face ,they are well and truly off my Christmas card list Rant over

Dorset bass player looking for something interesting.
Dom in Dorset replied to Dom in Dorset's topic in Bassists Available
Thanks, it does look quite interesting but sadly I'm two hours from Paignton. -
Would it be good for metal?

Soundman looking at everyone else in the band and asking "which one of you is the singer?" I put my hand up so he then asks "who's the lead singer?"

Last night if an eight show panto at a theatre in a town 1/2 hour from home. I'd been in the pit band so when the last show ended I dragged my amp out of the pit, gathered up my kit and headed for the stage door. Rather than carry the heavy amp across the car park I left it by the door , went back in for my bass and lead bag, came out got in the car a drive home to put my feet up and have nice glass of something. Thankfully I didn't take the lazy option and leave my amp in the car until the morning and realized my mistake. Luckily it wasn't raining and my amp was still there when I eventually returned.

I will definitely check those out, one thing I don't like about the overlord bridge is that it's branded THE OVERLORD OF MUSIC which seems a little over the top. -

I bet you were just expecting "the bridge is fine/could do better" but as I'm a proper nerd who keeps records : Between November 2015 and January 2019 I played 58 gigs on it and changed the strings 6 times. The bass would also have been used for all of the rehearsals and jam sessions etc during that period. There was only one slight issue during this time , one of the screws that helps grip the strings at the nut end stripped and had to be replaced. The screw in question is probably surplus to requirements as the strings are also bent at 90 degrees and held with an Allen key nut. I found a replacement in my bits box and carried on, it doesn't match but it does the job. I will probably use Overlord again to keep the cost of what is still essentially a prototype down but I will look into alternatives. -

There could well have been a build diary for the original headless but I can't find it now , plus I've come a long way as a luthier since then. -

Good morning, If you haven't seen what I do before : I build basses and guit@rs from reclaimed wood, body , neck, the whole thing (apart from an occasional bit of binding) all reclaimed , mostly from old pianos. A couple of weeks ago I was working on a bass neck for a Fenderbird that I have planned when I had one of those negative Midas touch days. I drilled the holes for the machine heads and then noticed that one of the holes was about 10mm from where it was supposed to be. Fuming I cut the headstock off and threw it on the fire so I didn't get constantly reminded of what a nerk I'd been. I was planning on prizing off the fretboard to salve the truss rod when I remembered something... A few years ago after carrying a heavy jazz bass in a hard case for miles through a crowded festival for a gig I build this: It features a chambered body to keep the weight down, asymmetrical bottom end so that a single strap button let's it lean against an amp without falling sideways, a cutout so it can be played sitting without the need for a flippy out thing and an upper horn to improve ballance. It was my main gigging bass for several years. I have some ideas for further refinements, watch this space. If anyone is interested I have also entered the Great Guitar Build Off , check out the Scavenger Music YouTube channel to follow my progress.- 82 replies
