1. Last week, I was setting up my new fretless using some old strings (they had to be taken off a few times to remove high spots from the board) I broke two in fact. I can't remember ever breaking a string in normal circumstances.
2. I needed to play unplugged a few years back when acoustic basses were a rarity. I went for a bass clarinet. they are also expensive , I sold mine this year to fund a Fender Jazz.
3. A new truss rod is £10 from CH guitars, removing the fretboard and getting it back on again is tricky but not impossible. I posted a thread in build diaries (extreme de-fret) on how I did it recently. Of course , it may not be the truss rod, I wasn't certain with my bass untill I got the old board off.
4. I don't think the fret filler is the problem, I've played on a bass that was de-fretted and the had the slots left open, it worked fine. You have nothing to lose, go nuts with the allen key see what happens,. I can't imagine how the truss rod would get bent, it's more likely to be a problem with the threaded portion. There's only a short thread (just beyond the silver bit) it sound to me that it's stripped or damaged in some way. It is possible to replace a truss rod
5. Can you post a picture of the problem?
6. Probably too late now but I think Outshined meant for you to remove the screw while it was still hot. Oils are released from the wood when it gets hot , this can aid in the extraction..
7. Belt sander then cabinet scrapers, by eye. I got the board right for each string in turn, the radius formed as a by-product. It was the filthiest job in the world , I looked like Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins by the time I was done.
8. There she is, ebony and fretless. I'm going to try her with nylon wound strings before I decide if she's a keeper or not.
9. Getting the old board of was easier than you'd think. Brave is only a step away from foolhardy.
10. ok, I had a slight change of heart and decided to put a fretless ebony board on it: Board cut roughly to size, i might keep the off cut to a make a magic wand. Trial fitting, I put it up on my lathe to see of any light was visible between neck and board. Now with glue.
11. Made it through the whole thing, reminded me of this:
12. For me Star Wars was just a film , for others it's a way of life.
13. I was alluding to theat rhyme , but surely it's "Dear Leo, dear Leo?"
14. A black hole no less! Be careful not to be drawn into another dimesion while playing.
15. It's a 2006 US standard Jazz, I took the scratch plate off to adjust the truss rod and found a hole... It seems to serve no purpose, it's just over an inch deep and was made before the body was finished. Apart from hiding contraband any ideas why it's there?
16. String manufacturers wrap the ends in coloured thread because the world would end if they didn't. Tax discs are circular for the same reason.
17.
Really? Nobody's posted the Mothman yet? First in, for once....
Those curtains!!!
18. Sorry, it was about time that someone posted this beauty. looks like I drew the short straw.
19. I came back to this thread from the bottom of the page and actually liked this one, scrolling up until I got to the non-headstock. Why?
Balance is restored, and those are still proper ugly.
20. If Warwick made a Bongo.....
21. Bilbo has to play a short scale version.
22. I'd play it, but I'd be thinking of this one:
23. "I've told <our new manager> not to book any gigs from September onwards, I might be going on holiday." - this was a week after signing a one year contract , effectively reducing said contract to eight months.
24. "I play better when I'm drunk." The person who said that could have a whole thread to themself, I'm no longer in a band with them.
25.
That's brilliant, I actually wanna hear the song now!
Sadly you wont get the chance to hear it (neither will anyone else for that matter). The person who made that statement is no longer in the band.
