1. I wouldnt want amp signed by anybody, so it would put me off a bit, no offense to MK, so where it might add a bit of interest fpor some, equally it would put some others off.

[This is from someone who after many years coveting an acoustic 360 bought one that had been stencilled STEPS, which no amount of cleaning and black shoe polish has been able to remove]

  2. If you are doing it to get yourself a 4 ohm cab, to develop max power from your amp, dont bother, You probablywont hear the difference. You will get a much better result by adding a second speaker cab to give you more speaker area.
Bill knows all the theory, I know little, but I did it last year and it was a total waste of money

  3. I bought this to use with my 8b and and M500 in larger gigs, but I found I dont need it, the 8b does it all. Admittedly we are not talking about the Albert Hall.

Ive had my PJB rig for 6 months now, and it really does do as it claims, wonderfull sound, and very portable. Still have the original manufacturers box so shipping not a problem.

Looking at the picture there appears to be a large tear on the front buy there isnt. There is one very small nick on the bottom side, otherwise its in extremly good condition. I will take some more photos tomorrow.

  4.
That looks interesting, do you use these? Is this like a traditional strap lok which fixes through the guitar strap?

    Thanks
Np I tried to get these for dunlops but was not able to. I took a deep breath and plugged and redrilled the holes

  5.
If that's the case then Schaller locks could be worse as the screws they use are even thinner than the Dunlops.
Bolt type on Rick Page

  6. be carefull

I have a 4001 c64 and the vintage button has a bolt type thread and the dunlops which I prefer are much smaller than the drilled holes. You can plug the holes and redrill if required.

I had a 4003 and a hazy memory of that is the holes were larger in the body than the screw.

I plugged the body on mine, but you can get schaller locks from Rick

  7.
On the other side of the coin here... I sent them an email as a prospective customer as opposed to an existing one, asking a couple of questions about their cabinets, only for it to to be ignored :)
Ive asked them loads of questions over the years, they have never failed to answer and always very quickly

  8. Bought 3 wall hangars from eddy glee

Great nick, beautifull packaging and very fast despatch despite my forgetting to pay him on the day I was supposed to

    good bloke

What I really don't understand is how a five-inch speaker -- or an array of them -- can handle the extremely low vibrations of a bass. It seems like clipping would be inevitable at a certain point, when volume demands pushed the speaker to its physical limits.

I use an 8b which has 8 speakers in it and if I play where other bass players are, they invariably come and comment they cant beleive the sound that comes out of such tiny speakers. As someone who has used mainly 15s in the past its a revalation to me as well. I cant explain the maths. It has good projection, and I beleive its something to do with using multiple speakers.

Before this I had for smaller gigs an ashdown mini 4x8 which is also remakble pokey, probably much louder, but without the range the pjb stuff has. Have a look at some of the reviews on the web site under the neo speakers range, and you will see the claimed specifications

The stuff is very well engineered and designed, and does work. He is growing the range, and has gone from the very small, to http://www.philjonespuresound.com/products/?id=99

My goal was to reduce weight and get a portable rig, and leave my monster 2x15 at home for all but a few gigs. I could have probably achieved the same goal by going with a 2x12 or a BFM set up.

  11. Its hardly surprising, the super flight case has 4 forward facing speakers and two facing upwards for monitoring. IIRC Phil Jones says 8 5 in speakers is roughly equivalent to a 2x10 so what you heard was an outdoor gig using the equivalent 1x10

If I were playing an outdoor gig, I would probably not use my 8b, but something more powerfull. As a pjb user of about 6 months, they are great amps, but they dont work miracles.

My 8b is remarkably good for its size and weight, but like everything its a compromise between size weight and volume. If you heard one of the larger pirana rigs with 25 odd speakers, it would have blown your ears off

  12. I had a 4003 mono with dots cant remember the manufacturing date but it was late 90s and I hated it. It looked great, but it had a sticky neck like a bass ball bat. I dont remember it sounding that great, but that will have been through at least 10 odd rigs ago. I kept it for a year after I gave up playing it because I didnt want to sell it.

Anyway, I got a hankering again when I saw someone selling a v63 but I didnt want to fall into the trap again without trying it so I tootles along to someone who had a 4001c64, and had a bit of a noodle, and really liked it. The neck was different and felt nice, the 64 doesnt have binding so there is a chamfer.

Eventually I bit the bullet and bought one, delivered to my house on the 4th of June, and I echo Chris's comments 100%

Now my guitar of choice has been a precision since the late 60s, I like the old fashioned neck with 13/4 neck, I like it because its comfortable, it cuts through in the mix, and all of mine are just right.

The Rick on the other hand has wonderfull neck access and encourages me to play a different way. I often use a pick with the rick, wheras I rarely do with any of my other basses. The pickup cover is more substantial and I can play on that no problem, I can still play fingerstyle, it just takes a bit of getting used to.

The bridge is lifting, I dont know what effect but it doesnt affect the sound or playability. The finish is flawless, as was my last one.

In a way, it should feel different, if it felt and played like a jazz or a precision, whats the point. The only change I might make is to fit the cap kit which is on a push pull pot.
