1.
This was another early favourite of mine.....

. The drummer, Andy McCullough was a monster too but he left the music biz and now charters yachts and teaches sailing somewhere hot.....
im pretty sure this is the same drummer who used to play with a group round the south coast called Shy limbs in the late 60s. They were a three piece with a hammond and Greg Lake played bass and sung, and they often ended up on the same bill as we were on at the time.

I seem to recall they got another bass player after Greg Lake left, but eventually ended up as the heaviest duo you can imagine.

    Andy was awsome.

  2.
Bit of an update because I had some thoughts whilst wandering around town today.

Second, I bought a can of this stuff for shining up car interiors. Seems to make things blacker and shinier, but means any dirt stuck in the basketweave shows up more. Should probably take a brush to it if I seriously gave a flying one:

Actually, now I see it next to the original photos, it makes a fair bit of difference.
Ive enjoyed reading this. Ive used dashboard shine before but there is silicon or some such in it and it makes the surface slippery. I did read on one of the us forums that wd 40 was good for cleaning up covering all though I have never tried it

  3.
that's such a lame xcuse bumnote :) i've obviously entered the dark side of BC here and i think i need to get out sharpish,

and 'the wombles tunes are good' .... so what's your favourite before i go?
It gets worse, In the 70s I played in a keyboard based trio, The ketboard player wenmt to the same school as Mike Batt. We used to play remember your a womble for a while, Always went down well.

I have no shame. I will do most things for money

  4. The law
The law gives you the following rights under this contract.

    The goods should be:

    Of satisfactory quality
This means of a standard that a reasonable person would consider to be satisfactory – generally free from fault or defect. They should also be of a reasonable appearance and finish; safe and durable.

    Fit for purpose
This means as well as being fit for all common purposes for which they are generally sold, goods should be fit for any specific or particular purpose made known at the time of sale.

    As described
This means goods should correspond with any description applied to them – this could be verbally, on a sign, or packaging, or an advert.

It is important to remember these rights exist automatically, between you and the trader. The trader should accept liability for any problems under the contract.

Don’t be fobbed off by a trader who tells you to take it up with the manufacturer.

Only when you buy goods directly from the manufacturer is your contract with them and the same rights as above will apply.

  5.
got any of their albums then :)
YES
    Ive got kids.

    :)

Seriously the wombles tunes are good, he wrote bright eyes, which Art Garfunkle took to No 1, as well as writing songs for other artists

  6. Your first port of call is from the people you bought it from, not strings and things. Sale of Goods etc.

Give the shop the opportunity to put it right. For all strings and things know your Big Al is third hand bought as a grey import.

If its Bass Direct, they should sort you out

  7. I used my m500 with an 8b and a bassplayer came out of the audience and said how great the combination sounded, and how amazed he was at the sound coming out of 8 5 in speakers.

We were also asked to turn down by t commitee because we were punching it out a bit.

Ive used mine every week now for a couple of monrths, and it does take a bit of time to get used to them, but they are great bits of kit.

The 24 version must be bloody awesome

  8. Wonderfull stuff If you imagine Acoustic being the Mercedes of the day, and the 220 and 402 being mid range models. The 220 is about 120watt, unless its one of the really last ones which I beleive were about 170. Still giggable today.

Wonderfully robust, most parts available still, the only problem with the amp is when the Graphic fails as parts are hard/almost impossible to get. I have had two of these beasts.
Never had a 402, but I still have my second 406, which is another 2x15 but a different design.

As far as selling goes, it depends how lucky you are. The drawback to them is there are smaller and lighter amps and cabs around, and its only old farts like me, who remember them as the best amp around in the 70s/80s who still remember them with affection, but they are a pain to transport.

I have seen a 220 go for on ebay for peanuts, or up to £225/£250 depending on condition. The cab not so much. Depends on condition, does it still have the original white domed speakers?

I use a phil jones these days, having sold most of my little collection, although I think I might take my 370 and 406 out tomorrow and give em a blast. Although I will struggle a bit wih the size, the sound will be sublime. [And should be heard in the next town]

If you want to know anything specific, just ask.

  9.
Although both are beyond my budget, can anyone let me know the difference between these two 64's?

    Cheers
I enquired about this and they said the cheaper one was an A! new C64.

They said they got a good deal on the maple glow ones as they were a big rickenbacker seller [but not on the fireglow one].

Their prices have been the cheapest in the uk advertised on e bay for this product and one shop I tried wouldnt even get close on matching for a fireglow.

  10.
We want 10 grand, 6 bottles of Krug and a packet of dry roasted peanuts.
You are the sort of band who sets a low standard in their rider and spoils it for everyone else

Pastachios or Cashew nuts dear boy

  11.
I have always convinced myself that a slimmer neck makes for a faster, more comfortable playing experience. The recent arrival of a G&L L2000 tribute changed all that. Measuring 43mm at the nut in stark contrast to 37mm on my Ibanez SRX650, it's chunky profile is so comfortable to play and the G&L is currently my weapon of choice. I'm going to revisit the 4003 this weekend with an open mind and see how we get along
The g&l is an underated bass in my opinion. I liked my trib when I had it but I also used to have a very early one with the old headstock and front mounted controls, really great bass, although rather heavy. i think they were better than and had a bigger range of sounds than a stingray.

    good luck in your revisit.

  12.
In the original Ric bridge pickup the "horseshoe" was actually the magnet assembly and removing it would cause the pickup to stop working.

Is this still the case with the new Rics with this feature or is the horseshoe simply a cosmetic detail now?
As far as i understand it the pickup is different to the originals, and that the top 'covers' for want of a better word are chunky bits of metal that are connected to the pickup and provide some sort of magnetism. Ric say the covers can be removed carefully by a specialist, but it will alter the sound. My nose is twitching a bit cos it sounds like a bit of marketing bs, but its still a great bass.

  13. I have just bought a 4001c64 and its great. Its my second real rick and a good faker some years ago. There is a huge difference between this one and my previous one which was a 4003 from the late 90s. It had a neck like a cricket bat.
I think there are two things with a bass and they are not necessarily related, how it sounds, and how it feels in your hands. It will take me a bit of time to get really used to playing with the horseshoe like hand rest which according to rick should not be removed, but the whole feel of the bass is different to its predecessor. I played another one before buying this one in Farnham and it didnt feel quite the same as this one.
Its pretty much horses for courses really, I am one of the apparent minority who like the old fashioned 1 3/4 neck on a precision, many dont. Would rather have a precision neck than a jazz.
    Just what floats your boat.

BTW, I would also disagree about colour too, that fireglow finish is apsolutely stunning, I could look at that for hours.
