1.
Hmm...can I just ask if it is more of a pinky red or the Pino Palladino kind of red?
Funny I was in GAK today and I spoke to the bloke in the shop about the colours when I looked at the pino. I have been involved with a couple of 'The Shadows' type bands and everyone is very picky about what is and isnt fiesta red.

In Gak, there seemed to be a marginal difference between the pino, the classic vibe, and this 50s re issue [I have a 50s reissue, and an old US one refin is 'fiesta red']

The mex is slightly pinker and I would say its probably the closest to the colour I would expect to see in Hank Marvins hands. The Pino was slightly more red, but you have to take into account the pino is contrasted to a tort scratchplate, and rosewood board, compared to the mex one with its maple neck and gold scratchplate and looking at my two that tends to maginify the differences.

  2. When you find onelet the rest of us know

If you want to do a self build look at the BFM Jacks
    http://billfitzmaurice.net/

They wont do 400 watts either in 10 or 12, what they will do is give you a very efficient loudspeaker that will alow you to get reasonable volume from a small package in a self build

I see Andertons are offering a bass collection rick copy

  4. Ive just had a look at mine, and I see what you mean
The lower former is screwed on, leaving the coil and top former attached to that lower former in some way, I cant really see how.
The two ends of the coil are fixed to the top of the bottom former, and then the black and white connectors soldered to them.
It sounds like yours have become detached, and you need to find the two ends and then reattach them.

this is very fiddly, and I suspect you may have to send it away for a rewind or buy another
    You could try wizard pickups

If you are desperate I have one you can borrow

  5. I have had one of my precision now for 42 years After going through a number of different basses when I started and when I got this one it just seemed right.

Ive added and sold other basses over the period, but always kept this one, the next oldest one I have is my 20 anniversary stingray which Ive had for 14 years but I really dont use it that much

  6.
You can also increase the efficiency by increasing the magnet size and the overall maximum volume by making a higher power handling speaker but these both increase the cost and big magnets increase the weight. An 8 might well weigh more than a 12" speaker with the same bass response and maximum output.
To me thats the only drawback to the 4x8 is the weight which is why after missing the neo conversion from Jimmysimms I tried to replace the speakers in mine.

Unfortunately the prices made it not worth while so I ordered a pjb instead

  7.
The case was/is all working. He hasn't been able to articulate his problem really - just stuff like "Its ruined the whole thing" and "I paid a premium delivery rate". I am sticking to my guns but have been left feeling really bitter about it. At one point he said something about buying a £60 bass which made me think he might be a basschatter - perhaps someone on the Sue Ryder bass thread? If so, can he/she please man (or woman) up and leave a comment on this thread?
I think this also dispells the idea you put forward that in some way you had cheated. You havent, and looking at it impartially from both sides i reckon you have nothing to worry about, and appear to have behaved in an proper fashion

Good on you and stick up for your self

  8.
Thanks to all for the info :) - clearly makes sense to leave as is.
To add to the other advice you had, I actually changed an 8 ohm driver to a 4 ohm last year and the difference was minimal, it really isnt worth the trouble and I wish I hadnt bothered

  9.
Obviously you are not going to get deep bass at high efficiency out of small speakers but I love the sound of my practice amp and wondered if I could achieve this sound at gig levels.
I know from previous posts you are quite clued up on this sort of thing, I have been using an ashdown 4x8 for a while now, as does a mate of mine, and we get a really nice sound out of it, and the SWR Henry the 8x8 is pretty well regarded so its surely just a matter of finding the right speaker.

As I mentioned in a previous post you can get the Sica/Ashdown spec in Neo from Hotrox but they are dear.

What about the 5" speakers in Phil Jones?

  10.
Funny enough I tried a shop and I even tried lean business, but under the 'bass guitar' section, the smallest speaker is 10", hence my asking if p.a speakers were ok :)
I suggest you write to them or phone them. I got some really helpfull suggestions a year or so back

  11.
Funny you should say that.... The only reason I bought The MAG 600 was cos I needed to be really loud to keep up with 2 idiot guitards.... The 220 may be brought out of retirement and one of the MAG heads will be surplus to requirements, along with a green Yamaha BBG-4A....
Every Cloud............................

  12.
also Ashdown do italian made ones they will sell them to you if you ask nicely, they used to put them in the mini 48 superfly 484
Not any more I tried them just before christmas

  13.
I saw them last year in Brighton - small gig on the seafront. They were great - actually they were amazing
They are great in an intimate environment.

Met Alan Gorrie and Onnie Macintyre beforethey were famous, great blokes

  14. I went down this route trying to get some 8" neo speakers
Hotrox are the distrutors for Sica who used to supply ashdown and they will supply neos but they quoted me £70 odd each

They may supply steel at a cheaper price, and I would also talk to Leanbusiness who supply Celestion for their advice, they are very helpfull
