Products from small producers may not be perfect (price / quality etc ) but the products come from a passion and desire to improve and innovate and with time and encouragement the products will improve and come down in price. Otherwise we may all as well just give in now and all you will be able to buy is American branded gear made in the far east by someone who doesn't give a sh*t....
I agree completely.

Im not in the market for another cab at the moment, but next time I am i would certainly consider a barefaced.
Although Ive never tried one, so I have no opinion, I find reviews interesting and i think do help the decision making process.
If i was going to summarise what I have picked up from this thread
OP Had a qc issue which was resolved, not as well as it could have been, but certainly better than some of my experiences.
A lot of people like BF
Some Dont
Some people appear to have an agenda almost outside is the product good or not.

Any product that has a product on free loan round the country, [did someone say it was flimsy?] or has a trial period with a money back guarantee must be worth a try, and after that you can make an objective decision.

2.
some of those old Acoustic cabs were designed to "throw" the sound further, thus making them seem louder 20 feet away than close up. I'm no expert (clearly) but I suspect this is what they called a "W" design.

Again, the Acoustic forum is full of people who know an awful lot more than me...

One things for sure, I'd love to know how those old cab designs would sound with modern drivers.
a lot of the posters at the acoustic forum have replaced their original speakers with a variety of options. Michael Winter has JBK D140s in his but others have replaced their speakers with everything from fairly cheapo through to peavey black widows nd got good results.

I replaced the speakers in the 450/406 I bought in 1977 eventually with very expensive celestions but apart from making the cabinet heavy, gained no real advantage.

3.
Further research has told me its a square magnet Eminence in there.
both my 406 and the 126 have the square magnet jobbie but I still have an early eminence with the u shaped magnet at the back. The eminence used at the time was probably a fairly standard oem at the time.

4. There are a number of clubs we play in that have these things fitted, and all because of complaints from neighbours, and a requirement by the authority to keep the volume to a certain level in a particular place.

In all cases it has been a requirement from the authorities and not so far for ealth and safety mate. Some of the clubs have been hosting live music for 40 odd years, and its only recently that these things have become more common apart from in certain sensitive areas.

They are all supposed to be adjustable for both volume and time so that a peak will not set them off. If they are not set right, they are almost impossible to play with and we hav had them set off y the audience, and we have found no way apart from completely by passing them.

Our drummer bought a flat kit which helps, and its good discipline for us sometimes to try to keep the volume down. Sometimes its certain frequencies that seem to set them off, and in 1 venue its very sensitive to guitar, so he has to play very quietly ha ha.

5.
The only gripe I have with the 4x8 really is the fact that mine isn't one of the newer neo ones, and so it's a lot heavier than it looks like it shoud be lol

Si
Thats one of the resons that puts me off taking mine out sometimes

6.
How do they connect up to each other, if I was connecting them to an amp? Can I connect one cab into another to reduce the impedance from 8ohms to 4? Is it called 'daisy chaining' or something?
I refer back to my earlier posts, are u using 2 cabs or 4

If two you can either go 2 leads from the amp 1 to each cab, or 1 lead from the amp to cab a and one fron cab a to cab b.

If you want to use 4 it will depend on the amp you are using

That isn't square?
Thats not a mini 15 thats a compact. this is a mini 15 and is the one designed to go with the 4x8 unless you are talking about the new neo 4x8 which isnt cheap in fact ive never seen one s/hand

8. There was a mk 1 and a mk 2 with different handles, i dont know if there were other changes
You cant put the mk 2 on its side because the handles protrude so it will wobble
Why would you want to its a square cabinet
They match perfectly with the4x8 which is the same size
You can put either one on the top its personal preference.
If as i think you are going to have more than 2 cabs ? ie 2 4x8 and 2 1x15 then the wiring will depend on your amp as you are unlikly to have 4 outputs, and 4 8 ohm cabs will give you 2 ohms total impedance depending on how you connect them, and most amps dont like that.

9.
I now have lots of these in stock. 12"x4"x2" - two for £10, £5P&P (obviously zero P&P if you're getting a cab at the same time).

They're made of Auralex PlatFoam (as used on the GRAMMA). Two are sufficient to float a rig up to about 150lbs in weight, and thus mechanically isolate it from wooden stages/floors. If you want to tilt your cab back yet still isolate it then use one 2" high at the back and one 4" high at the front, or use one 4" high at the front to tilt and partially isolate. Keep them in your gigbag with your bass, they'll fit neatly next to its neck and they weigh almost nothing.

Handy problem solvers, you never know when they'll come in useful!

Alex
I have been toying with the idea of getting a gramma but this might be a better way
On the gramma pads the platform pads run left to right and extend the full width of the cab ie they are 24 in wide give or take
Do you suggest the 12 " lengths are run left to right supporting the middle of the cab only or front to back assuming you are not tilting
Does that make sense?

now im in 2 minds with these, are they cool or naff. lets face it, if you pull this out at a gig everyone will say hahaha mccartney.

im just not sure, plus how close are they to the originals, cos for 250 seems a bargain
I struggle a bit with all of these 60s guitars, Hofners, futuramas, Watkins Rapiers etc.
My first guitar was a hofner president, but i couldnt afford a proper gibson or fender at the time. I couldnt wait to get rid of it and buy a 'proper' instrument,

Now I see them up for silly money.

11.
Wow- how responsible- the only time i fill out a form at a venue is for the internal revenue service ( taxman ) signed Mickey Mouse
We have a number of these apart from mickey Mouse

Norman D Landing is a favourite, as is Chris P Bacon.
There is also Ivor Longcock and many more

12.
What's this? About £200 on the Ishibashi used pages.
New plate with the knobs in the right place would help :)
