1. Precision bass body, black, comes with pickups, [cheapo], bridge, pots, knobs, jack socket, you just need a neck. Its solid wood not ply or chipboard, the finish is pretty good and unmarked. The DR parts neck listed seperately fits but is a bit sloppy £45 including postage
2. I was going to put a bass together but changed my mind. I have a DR Parts maple neck, 20 fret, it is unused, but it has had the 4 neck holes drilled. Ebay £55 odd £45 posted
3.
The Halfords paint is acrylic too. For me it was purely logistical, I don't have a Halfords near me but a hardware shop up the road sold the Plasi-Kote. I called Plasti-Kote to make sure it was acrylic before going ahead.
Thank you
4. Why did you choose acrylic rather than a halfords car spray? I have a bass Im contemplating doing
5.
I think acoustics used to have Fane speakers, shame it's a replacement. I like Fane's myself. It's also 125watt if I'm not mistaken. I too like the 360's. If I could find one and had the £££'s I would get one.
The original speakers in acoustic were eminence mainly and cerwin vega 18s in the 301
6.
Why are there so many bad reviews on the Boogie Bass heads? Apart from the 400 obviously. I have always wanted an old M2000, and am thinking about the M9 head but they seem to be very unreliable. Whats everyone elses opinions on them?
I bought an m2000 new whenthey came out and was bitterly disapointed. The quality of build was impressive, although i did have problems with the DI out, and piss poor service from the distibutors. Although it does give you the options of 2 switchable preamps, and a blend, and compression, etc etc in the real world I found it overcomplicated, and in a live scenario a bit fiddly. Bought as the final solution to gas and the last amp i would ever need i sold it 2 years later at a huge loss and felt good riddance
7.
Let's not forget about Lucas Lighting and the joys of positive grounding. In my college years one bought an MGB or Midget, or a Sprite, in the hopes that the coolness of the ride would get one laid. The time spent trying to keep the damn things running was so all encompassing that any all other extracurricular activities, including a decent nights sleep, were relegated secondary status at best.
Or even worse you could have bought a lotus elan
8.
Hi there, Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, or if this gets asked frequently! I'm actually asking this on behalf of a friend who's, all being well, going to become a bassist. I helped him pick out and win a used Fender P-Bass (Mexican, I'm afraid) He'd like to spend about £200. I'm guessing a tube amp will be right out of his range, but in the current market, what could he realistically expect to get for his money? Used is acceptable. I was thinking an Ampeg B-100R but as a piano/Hammond player, I'm out of my area of expertise (not that that's particularly large anyway!). Could some of you give me some suggestions? Thanks, Spinner
A mexican P bass is nothing to be ashamed of, it will serve your friend very well untill he wants to change for something different. I used to watch a guy called Alan Jones who played with the shadows in the 70s play a cheap encore precision bass, and he played and sounded better than most of the other bass players I have ever seen. No doubt I will get shot down, but I would look on ebay for second hand peavey. Its built to last, reliable, and its cheap compared to some of the exotica mentioned on here. You need to look at transport etc but if you can I would look for a seperate head and cab because it will allow you to add or change as you progress. I dont know if you can acheive at that price
9. Nice acoustic 301/370 in the back
10.
Leo Fender formed MM after he left Fender or rather he sold to CBS..IIRC so it would be a prototype MM, IMV He then sold MM ( due to ill health..?? ) and moved on to G&L Something like that, anyway..
Its quite complicated. Leo formed a company called CLF research that manufactured guitars and amps for the music man company. He had a clause in his sale contract with CBS that prevented him from setting up in competition. CLF and MM fell out, there are all sorts of stories about why, quality was one of apparent reasons, George fullerton said that MM wanted to buy the factory on the cheap, and music man stopped ordering from CLF. Leo had the factory and no orders, his non competion clause had expired, so he started making guitars under the name G&L
11. The early G&ls had that shape headstock, I had a G&l 2000 with that headstock and the same control panel. That looks like an early L1000. They changed the headsrock shape to avoid a lawsuit from Fender IIRC
12. Why not start from basics The original purpose ofthe pa was to provide amplification for the vocals. i reckon 50 % of the local bands I hear trying to mike up everything have the vooals at inaudible levels. Start at least with the vocals and try and mix everything to them. A band thats not particularly loud thats properly balanced generally sounds better than a loud band thats not I saw Whos Who a little while ago on Southsea Common and they were sh*t hot. The bass player sounded great on stage and through the pa was an inaudable mess The f..... bass drum is not the loudest thing in the mix, can you mix that and the bass so that they occupy different frequencies please.
13. I would love to come along although I would probably look like someones grandad but we are playing ourselves that night so good luck.
14.
How much do you attach to a name? I'd always go for a Lakland. A used Skyline will be cheap for the quality and better value than any other bass out there. Also, they'll have fewer dead spots, better more flexible electrics and pickups and I prefer the 35" scale and the neck profile.
Its only the 5strings that are 35 in scale, the Bob Glaub, Jo Osbourne, Scheff, 44-02 are all 34 in scale.
15. I popped in today, and contrary to my previous experience and most posters, found the staff helpfull and polite. I didnt try anything cos there was nothing I fancied, but there were a couple of others in there trying things out with no problems. There is a sign on the wall asking you to let staff gett them of the wall as they are hung very close together- fair enough but apart from that no problem. Perhaps the penny has dropped
16.
Thats orange!
I promise I will learn how to take proper picture one day
17.
My first bass with straplocks was my '87 Warwick with Schallers. Unfortunately they have now worn out but I guess they've done pretty well. My RIM Custom 5 has Dunlops on it. However as I never take my strap off I'd be quite happy with a big wood screw and a large washer. Alex
I am fairly relaibly told that Denny lane used a 6 in nail on his rickenbacker 6 string back in the moody blues days
18.
They do a nice Fiesta red though - on the 50s RI model
Heres a nice fiesta red from 64 but sadly not original but still my baby since about 69 plus cij sunburst, cij white, lakeland jo, and a classic vibe in the background
19. obviously a man with impeccable taste
20.
Is it sold??
says so in the title
21. Theres something a little strange about this. Its a bass offered for some while here at £450, which is quite high compared with the prices CIJ have been fetching on ebay. It was twice on the bay unsold if I remember right also at £450. Then AM1 said it was sold with the inference that it went for advertised price. Now ita on sale at 99pence no reserve.
22. Heres a picture of him playing a precision when playing with quatermass in the 70s They were a great group
23. this bass appears to be back on e bay starting at 99p, at least some of the pictures are identical Is this back on sale or is it a dodgy auction number: 190325497683
24. The tops and subs are the same as we use although we run biamped with two studiomaster amps and its its a good system. It doesnt break your back either, the speakers are a reasonable weight.
