I have a 64 precision, same colour, same guard as the squier, fitted with flats, a white CIJ precision fitted with rounds, a jo osbourne jazz and a stirling. I think the stirling is an incredibly underated bass, I prefer it to the stingray, and the osboune is a beautifull bass. But my first choice is generally one of the precisions, because I find the precision just feels so right when I play it. If it was me, I would have the CIJ,

So who's seeing the New Year in with their band?
bumnote replied to Jase's topic in General Discussion
I am playing at a club in Woolston, we played last yearr as well. Im looking forward to it except for the old lang ine, hokey cokey and all that rubbish. Best paid gig of the year but also the audience up up for a good time. -
Ive not noticed a problem so far with my 50s squier although I sold a MIJ 50s reissue for exactly that problem. I used wire wool on my 60s reissue precision and that did sort the problem.
I was told by my local Dean dealer than they're changing prices almost daily. *rolls eyes*
I didnt notice much price reduction when the pound was at a very high value against the dollar last year, ot am I just being cynical

Very rewarding if you do I made a pair for a guitar playing friend some years ago, charged him the cost of materials only he still has them
-
having made loads of cabinets in the past, I suspect that by the time you have actually paid someone for the materials [plywood, covering, handles, sockets, grill cloth, corner protectors,] plus labour and his profit, you would find it cheaper to sell yours and buy a couple of second hand 4x10s Many years ago i foolishly cut an acoustic 406 2x15 cab in half, so I could get in in my car
-
if you buy a new mag cab, you will loose money when you sell it, If you buy a second hand ABM you could probably sell it for close to what you paid for it.
When I was researching getting an amp last year I read quite a few reports on t'internet re. problems with Eden amps and reliability. Like you say maybe it was a bad batch etc but it was sufficient to put me off!
I have had my traveller about 5 years and it never let me down, and neither did the metro i had before it. In fact where it not for the weight, I think the metro is one of the best I amps i have ever used. The only amps in over 40 years of gigging i have had issues with were a made in the us ampeg and a boogie basis 2000, both of whom have a reputation for qulity and reliability Every manufacturer from Mercedes to Sony to Nike makes a sub stsndard product sometimes. Companies who consistantly make bad product go out of business. I saw a basschatters new US fender precision a while ago, and it was awfull. It doesnt mean that all fenders are c... [although I would rather have a bob glaub.] One of the difficulties with a mass communication media like the internet is that it doesnt take that many people on an internet forum to crticise a product, before that product gets a bad reputation, and as quoted above, 'it was sufficient to put me off' I reckon if you like the eden sound ,get another one.
I tried one out yesterday (the 70's jazz) and was mightily impressed - an excellent instrument. As everyone has already said a great sound and playability etc. I had the money and was going to buy it, but the tuning knobs weren't smooth enough! That is the only reason I didn't buy it. I feel like a bit of a plum really...
Im surprised at that, one of the things i noticed that the knobs on mine are nice and smooth, just like the metal shaft ones [cts?] I got from guitar parts resource
No mate..... they come with a nice cardboard box
and in my case it was an ibanez box with an instruction manual and a 4 ft lead you wouldnt use to strangle the guitar player.

Well I bought a 50s P today from Guitar Village , great. Lovely finish, neck and fretwork excellent, dont like the bridge much, prefer the normal bent metal one, and I was prepared to swap out the pickup. Took it to a gig tonight with my US Jo Osbourne which is a lovely piece of kit. The jo stayed on the stand all night. The squier has got a real grunt, and a knockout bottom end. Its equally as good as my CIJ precision, and at that price point Fender have a winner. I think this stands up in its own right. Im not going to sand off the decal, and im quite happy to say im enjoying playing a squier.
The other thing that always niggled me with the WT300 was the valve thing - I could never hear any difference If I changed the valve. With other amps (SWR, Alembic) I can hear some change. Nothing you'd notice in a gig setting, but a slight character change. I couldn't help thinking it was there for marketing rather than its contribution to the sound of the amp.
The pre amp valve used makes no difference,[someone told me all the electrical theory why it doesnt which I have forgotten] I like my WT 400, it is relaible and sounds great paired with over the period a 210xt with a 15 a 2x15 XLT and an ashdown 4x8 and a 1x15 The best thing to do is to go and try out a number of different amps. because no matter how hard people try to describe sound, it probably wont match up to the souind you hear in your head.

Do you need 2 400 watt amps? if not consider a s hand traveller Why not have the eden ovehauled gotta be cheaper than splashing out £500

I dip in to talk bass occasinally I used to visit the dudepit a lot, but now I read basschat instead

Quick update on my new/dodgy amp situation
bumnote replied to Beedster's topic in General Discussion
Decided I'm not going to throw good money after bad on this so anyone who thinks they might be able to fix it and who's prepared to come by Beedster Towers (Junction 10 M25) to collect it is more than welcome to take it away. Might be a really simple fix or might be a no goer, but there it is....... Chris
Really sorry you have been stitched up Why dont you at least get a price for fixing it a £50 fix and a £150 sale is surely better than just throwing your money away. I can reccomend Steves amps in godalming -
I do agree that it's a job of work and therefore I don't assume that I can bring the family along. This particular club, the rest of the year, allows children in to the downstairs room but not upstairs where the band plays. I expected them to be a little more liberal on NYE, rather than making it more strict. We've played at other places on NYE where they've gone completely child-friendly.
I think its always a tough balancing act between family and the band. Luckily my wife has got used to it. I said when I first met her in 1974 'look luv, the band was here before you and it will probably be here after you, so get used to it. Wouldnt dare say it now. Her take is 'Who do you bunch of old farts think you are trying to relive your youth, Ive heard those songs so many times I can recite them in my sleep. The kids drag her out sometimes but often she would just as soon stay at home.
Well, the usual method is... Cut/break a couple of sticks so they are slightly shorter than the depth of the hole Dribble some PVA wood glue into hole Insert sticks ( no need to jam the hole full of sticklets, in fact this would be bad. 2 should do unless it's in a bad way )
Yes, whatever you do dont try and fill the hole, unless you then drill a new pilot hole afterwards. If you completetly fill the hole you run the risk of splitting the wood on your guitar.

I tried to order something from Nevada today, but they were £25 dearer than sounds Live and wouldnt price match Guess where Im going
Its no wonder that social clubs are dying on their arses. They've been stuck in the 18th century since, eh, the 18th century Most of the committees are made up of nobodies who want to be big men with power so make it their job to f*** up as much as they can.
As the person in our band who has to deal with the various social secretarys to get our bookings there is a large part of me that agrees with you, and there are times when I have had to use every ounce of self control not to loose my rag, and then run the risk of loosing a regular gig. Theres lots of little petty squabbles on the comittee, when the one person is voted off and replaced by a new one. One person I met cancelled all the dates so the new person had to do it all again, and another double booked loads of bands, and changed all the telephone numbers in the contact book so no one else knew who was playing when, and couldnt contact anyone to try and sort it out. On the other hand, some comittee people work very hard, get very little thanks, while the other club members contribute nothing, just moan and groan. WMC and the like are dying, and they dont seem to be able to attract the youngsters in. When I started in the 60s, i was playing the music of the day, to a mixed age group, and that continued through the 70s. Now the audience is generally a lot older, and they still want the same old stuff we were playing thirty years ago. If I am getting paid, I believe I have to follow whatever the rules of the place I am playing at or not take the gig. I once played in a function band, dickie bows and dinner jackets, where the drummer often brought his wife. We arrived at a gig in bournemouth once, and the promoter said to her , you are not appropriately dressed, there is no room, you will have to wait in the van or go home. Some places we play freely allow guests if they are signed in, some charge, others restrict to a maximum, some dont allow anyone other the band. This new years eve, we were offered tickets for wives etc, at the same price as club members, on a first come first served basis. I take the view that I cant bring my wife and Kids to work, asnd much as I may not like it, sometimes that happens when I play. Its up to me to make that decision.

I sad one at a show someewhere I recall. If I remember rightly it was something that was either programable or didnt have conventional knobs and switches. I got the impression it was either looking to be a much more modern amp than TE or it was designed and shown by an ex TE person and got nowhere because of lack of interest
When everyone complained about the Bass Merchant, they did not make ambiguous complaints with no basis.
I dont pretend to remember every post thats been made, but do you mean to quote the bass merchant as I dont recall seeing anything other than positive comments about that organisation.
Eminence actively markets directly to the consumer and they are very well priced. They don't produce better quality, but their reliability record has always been impressive. Some of the newer Celestion stuff looks a lot better than the Eminence offerings and, thanks to Chinese production, the prices are good. I'm not sure if you can really call Celestion British any more though.
I didnt know that another one bites the dust
The stupid thing is that it's a social club that we're playing at. Anti-social club might be a better name for it. The WMCs and social clubs round Brum really seem to have some sort of death wish, they're largely child-hostile, which means that they won't pull in anything like the numbers that they could. Blame the lack of numbers on the smoking ban, blame it on the credit crunch, don't blame it on the idiot decisions of a bunch of geriatric twats, aka The Committee.
I have been playing in the social clubs round the south for years. I dont remember any clubs letting kids in on new years eve. Its not just the comittee its often the members themselves. People often come out to a club to get away from the kids, and if they want to get up and have a dance, its no fun for them if there are loads of kids running around. Where kids are allowed in, you often see the parents half pissed and the kids asleep on the benches. Im not taking sides, and I have two kids who can only come and see dad play on rare occasions, but I do see both sides of the argument.
