1.
I had one of these from the very same year. The PUs are correct. They have the date handwritten on them. They have a split coil, like a P pu. In my case, the N3 letter printed on the pu cover started to disappear due to grazing. Perhaps that's what happened here. By the way, I swapped the N3s for a Jess Loureiro handmade pickups in the end. I was trying to find the classic passive JB. But that's another story. Hope I have been of any help
Yes, very helpful, thank you.
Right you are not, double bass does Yoda play
Brush daft as are we All pm's replied thanks
2.
....and Chiliwailer is the Yoda of Fender :-)
^^^^^^ truth
3. Thanks ikay, seems to be either that or for some reason the original owner changed the plastic covers Many thanks for your help, much appreciated ta
4. That's brilliant Daniel, many thanks for that. If anybody would know, you would know
5. I put my Am Deluxe Jazz up for sale and somebody pointed out it didn't have the N3 pups which are standard. I'd never noticed, honest guv So just wondering if anybody can identify these pups please? Thinking strongly of withdrawing it rather than selling somebody a wrong 'un. All the passive/active electrics work exactly as they should so I have no problem keeping it although I've hardly ever used it. Cheers in advance folks, ta. 6. That's really kind Paul, thank you I've had a look under the hood and I'm still in the dark , so I'm going to start a thread in the gear section asking for advice, meanwhile anybody like to chip in?
7. ABSOLUTE STEAL for a '98 Deluxe Andy, somebody's going to get lucky!
8. Hiya Tom, hope you are on the mend me owd fruit bat This bass SHOULD be equipped with Fender N3 noiseless pick ups. Those pups have N3 written on them (link) http://www.thomann.d..._pickup_set.htm I was pm'd last night pointing out these pups haven't got N3 on the covers. In 2 or 3 years it never occurred, I honestly had never noticed. I will take it to bits this weekend and take some photos.
9. IMPORTANT. Following is my reply to a PM received last night. "Thanks for your mail Orlen. I bought the bass for about £1100 couple of years back. YOU are bang on right! In all that time I have never noticed, but those pups DON'T have N3 on them, thanks for spotting it and saving me possible grief later on!. Now, all the electrics work exactly as they should, both passive and active, so I'm guessing the originally owner had these installed professionally. I will strip it down at the weekend and try to find out what the pups are. I had 8 offers of trades on Facebook yesterday, from a Rick to a Conklin 7 string. Thankfully none of them were quite right. Thanks again, Karl. "
10.
$449 = £300 ish
Would be nice, but unfortunately, by the time shipping, VAT and import duties go on, it's probably going to be nearer £400 at a pessimistic guess.
11. Excellent review as ever discreet, loving the retro vibe on it as well. Edit. Jeez, "retro vibe" am I becoming an old hipster
12.
You'd be wise to consider my Tecamp M212 I've for sale in the classifieds. That paired with either amp you mention would handle anything! D.
Yes and it would have been mine if it had come up before Jose The Red seduced me Seriously though the TecAmp will do pretty much for anything, either on it's own or DI'd through FOH.
13. ANY LIFE IN BOLTON???? Oh come on whadya expect from Wigan Welcome to the forum Mr. Hat. North West Bands is worth a look (although admin doesn't happen and you need to sift through the huge amount of spam). Go to the Community page http://nwb.co/
14. As per title, final inspection Oct 2011 American Jazz Deluxe first bought in 2012. Link to specs will be attached (unfortunately I don't have the cable or strap locks). Very good condition with a few tiny dints my crap photography skills can't pick up. The case has some white paint marks and slight scuffs but is in excellent condition. http://www.thomann.d...b.htm#bewertung Lovely satin neck, sort of a 70's Jazz, but with passive/active, stealth A string retainer, graphite rods and 18 volt pre amp. Weight 9lb 6oz, normal sort of jazz weight really. Bad time to sell as they are getting replaced by the Elite in March, so the last few available are reduced a bit. I WOULD LIKE to trade, ideally for a USA 75 reissue, but happy to chat about other possibles. Sale would be £950 collected or £990 INSURED courier in UK. Photo no 7 looks like it has a scratch, it's just the light, no scratch. Any trial in Wigan would be great. Feedback at bottom of post. Sorry about the photos, cheers, Karl. 15. I bought 2 C4's just before Christmas, from Thomann. Returned them the following day. Nothing like enough coming out of them for me and at the time I had a PUMA 900! Only an opinion, and for my circumstance; Sound wonderful. NOT enough for either of the 4 piece rock bands I'm in. Would be fabulous for something like jazz at not too high volume.
16.
Thanks for the info. My post above is the headstock of my lefty AliExpress 4005 interpretation. Picture straight after unboxing. And a picture in almost full modified glory, only thing still missing was the new trussrod cover. It needed some attention in several spots before I was really happy with it. Most of of what I had to do was fixing 'just off' things. - Center aligned the pickups to the strings, the bridge pu was moved over by 3 millimeters, the neck pu by 1 millimeter. - Due to the moving of the pickups I also had to move the pickguard. - Reshaped the nut, they just put on a right handed one so this needed to be seriously modified, I'll probably make a new one in the future. - Gave the tuner bushings a few knocks on their head, they were mounted crooked, tuners are also not up to my standard so will be replaced later on. - The fingerboard had several less good looking and finished spots, re-finished these. - Crowned the frets where needed and polished them, they were level but rough finished in a lot of spots. - Changed the rotation direction of the pots, they were wired lefty so nothing wrong there, I just can't and won't cope with this reversed crap! - Done a full shielding of the controls cavity, there was none whatsoever. - Made a thumb rest. - Replaced the strap holders, what was on there was mounted with very thin and short screws, to leave those would have been waiting for an accident to happen. - Checked if all the screws and bolts were tightened and if they weren't tightened them (more often than not they were loose!). - Did a full and thorough setup. Conclusion: After all the things I did I mentioned above this bass has transformed into a very nice, good working and playing Rick 4005 interpretation. Sound wise it has some settings that can resemble the Rick sound very closely, luckily it also has it's own sound, the pickups sound good enough for me, only minus is that the bridge pickup is slightly microphonic but I can live with that. The lacquer and finish is not bad - there are some blemishes and rough spots, most blemishes are underneath the lacquer! This is another AliExpress bass I would advise not to buy to most people. If you are into tinkering it can be turned into something very good, if you are not you should stay away from these basses. The build quality on this one was a lot better in comparison to the two lefty Jazz V basses I bought through AliExpress before. These two needed some serious work to make them playable, straight from the box they were unusable. A better view of the new pickup alignment. Detail shot of the thumb rest.
Lovely bass That thumb rest is a piece of jean yus, thank you for that. Hope you won't mind me sharing it elsewhere I have an incoming faker an that might just find it's way, cheers
17. I had a Special, like Matt has posted a link to. It's still on my avatar. The original owner did over 800 gigs with it. I did over 200 with it. I only sold it after I seriously bashed it twice in one night (clumsy). Coludn't bear to look at the damage I'd done. Unlike the very high priced Attitudes 1,11, 111, these don't have DiMarzios, scalloped frets, detuner, push/pull treble cut or two outputs. They do have a generally easier to play neck, at 40mm nut as opposed to the real baseball bats on the Attitudes. The generic Yamaha pick ups are truly excellent, giving you from lovely smooth Bad Co with just the neck pup to more growl than a pissed off Rottweiler if that is your thing. VASTLY UNDER RATED BASSES, imo. And frankly at £300, you would be extremely lucky to find a more versatile, better built bass.
18. Got mine today, fabulous bit of kit, well made, tiny. Just had a wander onto the road, Jazz over shoulder, that'll get the curtains twitching . What a lovely, enthusiastic and intelligent guy Chris is. Now, to finalise back up stuff, I need a rechargeable battery charger. Recommendations and/or links gratefully appreciated ta
19. Going to be a long night
20. I've never had a problem with "volume", I'm just curious at the comments of Alex and Ashdown. I would like to know what amps are on full vol at half way round the rotaries. Their comments, not mine Just like some evidence of the statements. I don't usually troll but if you are going to make statements like that, it would be kinda good to back them up.
21.
Glockenklang have the most 'honest' volume ramping I've come across - very even increase in volume from 1 right through to 10
Thanks Roland, appreciated It's probably been done before, but might be a thought for a members anecdotal thread
22. OK, so we have had two seriously acknowledged industry experts say the same thing. Both their brands are seriously respected. HOW do us Luddites find out which amps ARE NOT pulling this full power at half volume on the rotaries. These should be empirical facts so surely you guys can name the companies that do this, without fear of being accused of competetive bias? Your comments have left me confused and somewhat disappointed in some companies being a bit shy with the truth.
23. Thank God that's in a different time zone to Wigan Mustn't look GLWTS
